THE BEATLES INVADE LAS VEGAS STRIP IN 1964!

Beatles arrive in Las Vegas 1964 Photo by Las Vegas Sun

My pals at Vegas.Com are guest posting tonight for my readers....They did such a great story I am using it as it....I did edit a bit of stats out of the story so if you'd like more click.. THE FULL STORY

This video is live footage of the Beatles in Vegas...check it out.....

The Beatles head toward their room on the 47th floor of the Sahara Hotel and Casino in 1964. In the 1960s, Vegas was no stranger to performers with devoted fans. At the Sands Hotel and Casino, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Joey Bishop were selling out the Copa Room as early as 1958. Rat Pack fans were willing to sleep in their cars and hotel lobbies on busy weekends, just for a chance to see the crooners.

But nothing had prepared LAS VEGAS for Beatlemania.

When booking agents first approached Las Vegas hotels on behalf of The Beatles, they were turned down. Stan Irwin, Director of Entertainment at the Sahara, had the foresight to realize what a Beatles' concert would mean to both the Sahara and Las Vegas.

In a 1989 interview with newspaper columnist Mike Weatherford, Irwin said "I'm the only one who seemed to have known about the Beatles, so I bought them."

Weatherford, in his book "Cult Vegas: The Weirdest! The Wildest! The Swingin'est Town on Earth," reasons that it was more likely that the hotels considered The Beatles an act appealing only to teenagers. Casino owners had seen the indifference Las Vegas audiences had toward an earlier teen idol. In 1956 Elvis Presley failed to capture the interest of audiences and critics when he performed at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino.

Whether it was foresight or luck, Irwin and the Sahara managed to secure the hottest ticket in Las Vegas when they booked The Beatles.

"I'd been thinking of putting them in our main showroom, the Congo Room, but it held just 600 and there was no way to get any more seats in the place" Irwin told John Romero in his book "Las Vegas, the Untold Stories." "I said, hold it, these guys belong in the Convention Center and I rushed over there to check the seating. They told me they could put 7,000 a show in the rotunda. I said that was still too small, and asked for the balcony too. They agreed and that pushed the total seating for each show to 8,408."

Crowd estimates range from 11,000 to 16,800 total for the two shows -- a record in Las Vegas at the time. Today, Celine Dion performs to an audience of 4,100 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and only high capacity venues like the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Mandalay Bay Events Center and Thomas & Mack Center can boast capacity of 14,000 or more.

"When I walked on stage at the Convention Center to introduce the first show, only four words left my mouth: 'Ladies and gentlemen, the --" and all hell broke loose," Irwin told Romero. "Like the rest of us from the Sahara who were there, I never heard a note. The screaming drowned out everything."

The Las Vegas Sun reported that the stage was surrounded by police officers and guards, some from as far away as Phoenix. The show was almost inaudible. A poor sound system and screaming fans drowned out the group as they performed their hits and songs of fellow artists including "She Loves You," "Do You Want To Know a Secret, " I Want to Hold Your Hand," "All My Loving," "Twist and Shout" and more.

Thirty minutes after taking the stage, the Fab Four were done, leaving the screaming fans in their wake. "I'll never forget a girl who came running down the aisle toward the stage," Irwin related to Romero in "Las Vegas, the Untold Stories." "One of our muscle guys picked her up and carried her out of the rotunda. Close behind her came a second girl who got the same treatment. As they carried this one out she kept screaming, 'Put me down you idiot. I'm her mother.' "

A few hours later, The Beatles left Las Vegas, never to perform as a group in the city again.

200 DETROIT DRAGWAY PHOTOS BY JOE STEVENS 1959-1971

FROM JOESTEVENS.COM

Detroit Dragway opened in 1959 in the middle of a farm area in a rural city about 25 miles south of Detroit. It was instantly a hit with crowds filling the bleachers or milling around the pits. The close, friendly atmosphere became a family for many and a perfect opportunity to try out new automotive creations in racing and finally a legal place to do it.

Before the strip opened, competition for the fastest car would take place in that same area's back roads and at the time, another popular place to race was Woodward Avenue. This gallery, from the original negatives taken by Professional Sports Photographer, Joe Stevens

GREGG ALLMAN BIO PIC: POSSIBLE HOMICIDE CHARGES IN SARAH JONES DEATH

Sarah Elizabeth Jones, 27,
was a native of West Columbia, South Carolina.
She was born on September 22, 1986.

**UPDATE**

The death of this young girl on a railroad track in Georgia just makes me sick.. As an operations person myself, my first question is why were they filming on a railroad track that was ACTIVE? There are lots of tracks that are shut down. Why not use green screen?

Too little too late, this young and very talented girl Sarah Elizabeth Jones, was hit by a train and killed February 20 while working on a film about Gregg Allman. Filming has been suspended pending the police investigation. Read about the shut down on Ultimate Classic Rock

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to:

A graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School and the College of Charleston, Sarah finished her formal education with a major in Media Communications and a minor in Film Studies. Sarah began her film career while interning on the set of Army Wives, a popular television show. With her spunk and determination, Sarah continued to climb the ranks of the film industry, quickly finding a passion in the art of Cinematography. She was a loyal and respected member of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600).

Sarah is survived by her parents, Richard and Elizabeth Jones, of West Columbia; her grandfather Andrew Jones, of West Columbia; her brother, Eric Jones, of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Rebecca Jones, of Boone, NC; and a devoted extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this terribly sad time...

THE STAR

The Star card suggests that my alter ego today is the Goddess, whose superpower for rising to the occasion lies in my innate ability for inspiration. I will pursue my dreams and what makes me happy -- life's too short. I will allow time for me today. I may even get my fifteen minutes of fame by seeking recognition from others and striving to sparkle in the limelight. I am immortal! Sometimes it's better to burn out than just fade away. Find your cosmic groove, and go for it!

General: This card is a definite good omen. You are probably already inclined to be thinking positively; this is a time to do so specifically. What are the changes that you would like to make or see in your life? Make a list. You can accomplish nearly anything that you set out to do now. Think big.

Work: Work should be going very well now. If you're not happy in your current position, this is a time when you can expect new opportunities to come flying into your life if you are open to them. Be ready for them. Dust off your resume, read tips and tactics about making positive career changes, and when opportunity knocks, be prepared to answer.

Love: This is an excellent time to meet someone new if you are in the market for a new relationship. If you're ready for love, get out and mingle. A new relationship could happen at any time. If you're already committed, your relationship may move to new, higher, more fulfilling levels.

Finances: Again, this is a very powerful positive omen. You will do better financially than you imagined. This is a great time to take risks (only those you can afford,) to ask for more money at your job, and to sell things. You'll have everything that you need, more than likely, and then some. Enjoy it.

Health: This should be a fabulous time, health wise. If you are waiting on test results of some kind, they are likely to be very good results. You'll be calm, and inspired. Take good care of yourself.
Spirituality: You are so in touch with your spirituality now that this is a great time for you to reach out to others, and to share your wisdom and your joy. Your efforts in doing so will be repaid many times over. The world needs your light and your happiness. Make a point to let it shine.

HELP RESTORE TAMMY WYNETTE'S NAME ON HER MEMORIAL

Virginia W Richardson is Tammy Wynette. Upon her death her plaque read "Tammy Wynette" and was changed to her birth name of Virginia and married surname of Richardson by her step daughter..

A public campaign has begun to push for Tammy Wynette’s name to be restored on her burial crypt two years after it was replaced with her married name, Virginia W. Richardson.

Georgette Jones Lennon said she and Wynette’s three other daughters are asking for public support as they try to rectify a mistake. They agreed to a name change after being told it would be temporary, she said, but now they cannot reverse the decision because they don’t own the burial crypt at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Lennon is asking her mother’s fans to join a Facebook page called “A Restoration” Tammy Wynette’s Name and Legacy. “She worked very hard and long her whole life for that name,” Lennon said. “That’s who she believed she was. That is who she was.”

One of Richey’s children, Deirdre Richardson Hale, who is a lawyer, persuaded them to change the name on the crypt temporarily for legal reasons during a planned challenge to the sale of the intellectual property, Lennon said. Attempts by The Tennessean to contact Hale, whom Lennon said owns the crypt, were unsuccessful.

Lennon, who is the only child from Wynette’s marriage to George Jones, said she and her sisters had thought the temporary name change would be to their mother’s maiden name, Virginia Wynette Pugh.

Lennon and her sister, Jackie Daly, have written books highly critical of George Richey, blaming him for being manipulative of their mother, pushing her to perform on stage when she was sick and enabling her addiction to pain medicine

THE JUSTICE CARD

General: This card evokes the need for fairness, balance, and harmony. Operate in as balanced and reasonable a fashion as you can. This includes in how you think about and treat yourself. If you are directly involved with a court case, it is likely to be resolved, at least in large degree, in your favor.

Work: You need to be sure that your work/life balance is where it needs to be. Too much emphasis on either throws the other into balance. For most people, one or the other comes more easily to us; be sure that regardless of which field (personal life or work) you feel most comfortable in, that you are giving the other part of life as much attention and energy. Balance is necessary in order to thrive.

Love: If you are questioning whether you and your long-term partner are likely to stay together, often when this card appears, the answer is that you are likely to choose to go your separate ways. On the other hand, if you are single, this is a time when commitment may be coming your way very shortly. Stay clear about what you most want from relationships, and you are likely to "find it" that much sooner.

Finances: This is a good time for games of chance. Very often, when this card appears in the context of money, it can mean that a (usually fairly small) "windfall" is coming your way. Even if you don't gamble in any way, money that you weren't expecting can show up now. That's always a good thing. Use it wisely.

Health: It's important to "stay in the moment" and, once again, to pay attention to how you are (or are not) keeping a sense of balance in your life. Moderation is not just for monks, it's an important part of living a sensible and healthy life. Consider how you might be "out of balance" - particularly if you have a health challenge now and remedy the situation. You have the power to do so.

Spirituality: This is a time to work on being grounded. Do you feel as though you are connected to the earth and your fellow man? Can you be "in the world" but not "of the world?" Balance again is the theme here. Working on keeping the proper perspective about life will help you to stay centered.

Just in from Willy Wilson:

BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO is playing the MAGIC BAG in Ferndale March 6, 2014 at 8pm..If you have never seen them play get your dancin shoes outta that closet....!! EVENT PAGE HERE

Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr. was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1947. He acquired his nickname because, with his braided hair, he looked like Buckwheat from The Little Rascals. His father was an accomplished, non-professional traditional Creole accordion player, but young Buckwheat preferred listening to and playing R&B.

He became proficient at the organ, and by the late 1950s was backing Joe Tex, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown and many others. In 1971 he formed Buckwheat and The Hitchhikers, a 15-piece funk and soul band. They were a local sensation and found success with the single, “It’s Hard To Get,” recorded for a local Louisiana-based label.

Never a traditional zydeco fan when growing up, Buckwheat nonetheless accepted an invitation in 1976 to join Clifton Chenier’s Red Hot Louisiana Band as organist. He quickly discovered the joy and power of zydeco music, and marveled at the effect the music had on the audience. “Everywhere, people young and old just loved zydeco music,” Buckwheat says. “I had so much fun playing that first night with Clifton. We played for four hours and I wasn’t ready to quit.”

KURT TEK: THE ROLLING STONES PLAY ABU DHABI!

Mick Jagger (Reuters) of the Rolling Stones perform during a concert in Abu Dhabi, Feb. 21, 2014.

Ronnie, Mick and Mick Taylor (Reuters)

Some thoughts on the concert from Kurt Tek
(Senior F-16 Advisor at Global Aerospace Logistics)
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Mick Jagger (C), Charlie Watts (L) and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones perform during a concert in Abu Dhabi, Feb. 21, 2014. (Reuters)

KURT TEK:

Number 1: They were on time, like they had their watches hacked at the Greenwich Observatory or something.

Number 2: No warm-up band- just the 'Stones! That was a nice surprise...

They opened with Start Me Up, a bit too "common" for my taste, but they hit most of the greats- Midnight Rambler, Brown Sugar, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Satisfaction, Tumblin' Dice, You Can't Always Get What you Want, Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Women... Plus two encores, starting with Sympathy for the Devil.

Mick was in great form, very good mood, articulate and knowledgeable about the local area and spoke some Arabic. Moved like a 30-year old, and had great crowd interaction.

Keith played great but made a point of stopping one song, Slippin' Away, and starting over when he wasn't happy with the intro.

Charlie was solid as ever, and Ronnie did well. I never noticed before, but he uses his middle finger a lot when playing lead- unusual (to me, anyway)- normally it's the index and ring finger, and pinky, just the way most blues scales are aligned on the fretboard...

Mick Taylor played on a couple too, most notably Midnight Rambler.

Excellent sound quality, without needing earplugs. Huge monitor screens all over so people everywhere could see. Tremendous show and opportunity overall! K

(They did NOT play (This May Be the) Last Time.)

Kurt Tek: Stationed in Abu Dhabi the capital and second largest city in the United Arab Emirates. He is a senior F-16E instructor pilot over there. Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He plays guitar, is a huge Rolling Stones fan,is one of Deniz Tek's younger brothers, and was able to go see THE STONES play in Abu Dhabi! TROLLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN... UPSETTING YOU!

Now Troll has taken on a much darker role...A “troll”, in internet slang, is someone who deliberately upsets others by starting arguments or posting unnecessarily inflammatory messages on blogs, chatrooms, or forums.

First off..it is so sensitive expressing yourself online. Other people cannot read your mood, cannot see your facial expressions and can't tell humor from sarcasm. Those of us who have ever worked in huge corporations run by massive email lists, have learned never to "flame" out at a coworker via email.  Inevitably it will come back to haunt you.

But since the invention of Facebook in 2004 a phenomenon occurred... millions of new computers users were born. Facebook made the computer fun for many who avoided the machine at all cost. Facebook taught computer language to the masses.. Words like Share, Upload, Download, became normal for even the senior users...

But with the massive migration came stress, pain and agony...I would think that Mark Zuckerberg didn't know how his invention would have a massive sinister impact along with the enlightenment.  Facebook is a stalker's dream tool. Following their target's life via photos, activities, and spying on their friends became very very easy... Blocked stalkers just make a new profile and resume their position....Frustrating indeed.

The internet "troll" is a know-it-all with a mean uppity personality.  The obvious chat topics aside such as religion, abortion, politics etc..

The trolls that really bother me are the ones who think they are so FUNNY...they cannot ignore a photo or a comment without inserting their not funny at all comments. I just hate these trolls the most... If you are so funny...stay on your own page and entertain YOUR friends...leave me and mine alone!  Of course they will not recognize themselves in this message..Sigh...

Recently I have read a lot of articles saying that these mean cowardly "trolls" who seem to think they are anonymous when they of course have an IP address tracking them, are sadistic and Machiavellian. I think they are Sociopathic Narcissists who finally have found a giant mirror to reflect their self perceived brilliance to the masses.. The only life they have is by draining the energy from the normal people online..to me they are empty shells..

The best thing you can do to protect yourself is have a ZERO tolerance policy.  If someone posts something mean and it hurts you..block them immediately. Don't give them another thought...if they attempt to contact you follow a "NO" contact plan.  If you want to starve a bug..cut off his food supply...

THE HERMIT

General: Just like with the Strength card, you may even more so be in the frame of mind that you need some time alone - don't be afraid to take it. Even if it's just a five minute walk around the house so that you can clear your head. This is also very much a card about "trying very hard to do the right thing." Just make sure that "doing the right thing" includes doing what is right for you personally, and not just worrying about the wants and needs of others.

Work: You are nearing the point where work success and recognition are well within your grasp. Do your best to be organized and productive. This will pay off for you in ways that aren't clear yet. Do the "right thing" even if nobody is watching. You are always watching what you are doing.

Love: It's possible that a romance from your past will be re-kindled. Is that really what you want? It seems that romantic relationships are not currently a priority for you right now. If your head says that you want nothing more than a romantic relationship; look at your behavior. Does it align with that analysis? In a committed relationship, you might have been moving in different directions for a while now. Make sure to make the time and effort to stay connected in order to keep the spark alive.

MOONSTONE CRYSTAL AND ONYX

The Moonstone

The moonstone is associated with the moon and was the stone of the goddess Diana. The most powerful time to use the moonstone is in a full moon.

It has been worn as an amulet to bring good emotions to the wearer, while protecting those of a sensitive nature. It can reunite lovers who have quarreled. Moonstone is also considered a good luck stone.

Moonstone is a very personal stone. It is a reflection of the person who owns it. It does not add or detract, only shows how it is. This is why the moonstone is said to perceive that which "is". Moonstone is an excellent stone to use in meditation to understand oneself. Placing it in the moonlight of a moon reaching its fullness, not a full or waning moon, can revitalize it. This is a particularly good gemstone for women.

Crystal Ball

A crystal ball is a crystal or glass ball believed by some people to aid in the performance of clairvoyance. It is sometimes known as a shew stone. A body of water, either in a container or on the ground, used for this purpose, is called a scrying pool.

Onyx

Onyx is known to separate. It can help release negative emotions such as sorrow and grief. It is used to end unhappy or bothersome relationships.
Onyx guards against negativity

Onyx jewelry is worn to defend against negativity that is directed at you. Black stones have protective energies in the sense that black is the absence of light, and therefore, can be used to create invisibility.

Fortifies self confidence and responsibility
Sharpens your senses
Encourages a healthy egotism

BEWARE OF DARKNESS ON TOUR!

Beware of Darkness is gearing up for a 3-week nationwide headline tour, kicking off at SXSW in Austin, TX. The LA-based trio, led by 22 year-old guitar phenom Kyle Nicolaides, will take their notoriously commanding live show to Chicago, New York, Detroit, Minneapolis, Toronto and more. See below for details and stay tuned as more dates will be announced soon.

The tour is in support of their acclaimed debut Orthodox, out now on Bright Antenna Records. The gut-wrenching new single "All Who Remain" is climbing the charts at Active Rock Radio, currently #17 and steadily rising. Rolling Stone recently premiered the official video for the song, declaring it "hook-injected." This recent success follows the victory of the band's hit first single "Howl," which reached Top 5 at Rock Radio, culminating in a performance on CONAN.

The announcement of the new tour dates comes on the heels of a busy year for Beware of Darkness, with extensive touring across the U.S. and Europe that included performances at the UK's Reading and Leeds Festival, a slot on Jane's Addiction UPROAR Festival, and Warped tour. Over the past several months, the band has shared the stage with the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Social Distortion, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Tegan and Sara, Metric, AWOLNATION, Hollywood Undead, The Wombats, Middle Class Rut and others. Most recently, they performed a series of holiday radio shows with 30 Seconds to Mars, Atlas Genius, Cage the Elephant and more.

The band also shot a ton of behind-the-scenes footage (with plenty of tour antics), and edited the highlights together for a new video set to the album track "Amen Amen." Check it out here: http://youtu.be/PGDrbTNgd2k
