*NEW* INSIDE THE GRANDE BALLROOM: ROBERT MONAGHAN VIDEO 2015

Yes! Just received this new video shot by Rob Monaghan the fabulous Detroit Architecture Photographer. Rob went inside the abandoned Grande ballroom to film it's current state of disrepair...

My close friend MC5 drummer Dennis Thompson was interviewed inside the Grande for the MC5 movie which has never been release. Our pal Big Rich Dorris filmed the interview and you can see it HERE

I heard a church group owned it and as they are tax exempt..the building has sat vacant for decades. The Grande Ballroom had a long history...Here is a bit about it from Wikipedia..

The Grande Ballroom is a historic live music venue located at 8952 Grand River Avenue in the Petosky-Otsego neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan.

The building was designed by Detroit engineer and architect Charles N. Agree in 1928 and originally served as a multi-purpose building, hosting retail business on the first floor and a large dance hall upstairs. During this period the Grande was renowned for its outstanding hardwood dance floor which took up most of the second floor. Read More Here

Good video but sad also. I felt like a ghost going back in time. I can still hear the music in my mind.

You can still see the beauty through the rubble!

Sad to see the Grande like that. I helped Uncle Russ paint it in the days before it first opened up... I was even lucky enough to perform there a few times... As well as working there.

The ballroom is a 1/4 mile from Barrel House its s shame it will never be restored, and that the owners are intentionally allowing it to decay....

it make me very sad to see such an historic building falling into such disrepair. When you think of all the great musicians that have stood and played on that small stage, all the historic bands and music that echoed around the place. In the uk it would probably have been saved and restored to its former glory, used as a venue again (much like the Roundhouse in London).
How can the current owners get away with leaving it like that? Maybe they want it to fall to bits literally and then they can build their 'church' on the site......well guys, the church of Zenta was there before you!

Is there a way of getting an online petition to get some sort of repairs or restoration etc?????
Best wishes from the UK

Saw so many great shows there, from MC5 to Eric Clapton jamming with John Mayall to Spirit to Jeff Beck and many more....just makes me sad to see the old girl falling apart. Many great memories......
