Cool news today! My pal Karen Ann Hunter the lovely wife of famed guitarist Steve Hunter, wrote a story for my Detroit Rock n Roll Magazine! The article is the true story of who really played the guitar solos on Aerosmith's TRAIN KEPT A ROLLIN...The story went viral! Huge story....

Then Karen wrote to tell me that GUITARPLAYER.COM did a story about our story and mentioned my page......LOVE this interaction between magazines! Big fun for me!

GUITARIST JIMMY McINTOSH: NEW RELEASE FEATURING RONNIE WOOD!

Guitarist Jimmy McIntosh Releases New Album Featuring Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood!

Featuring guest appearances by guitar legends Ronnie Wood, John Scofield and Mike Stern!

Las Vegas, NV - As a follow up to 2006's 'Orleans to London', guitarist Jimmy McIntosh once again finds himself in illustrious company on his new album 'Jimmy McIntosh and...' This collection of funk, rock, jazz and blues originals showcases McIntosh's considerable six-string prowess and features the Michigan native exchanging incendiary licks with his personal guitar heroes John Scofield , Mike Stern and the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood.

The solid backbeats are supported by Toss Panos (drummer of choice for guitarists Robben Ford and Mike Landau), bassists Dan Lutz, John Humphrey and Keith Hubacher and New Orleans keyboardist Ivan Neville (of The Neville Brothers, Keith Richards' X-Pensive Winos and Dumpstaphunk). This stellar outing was definitely a labor of love for McIntosh.

For 'Jimmy McIntosh and...', McIntosh recruited Scofield and Stern from his home base, Las Vegas. Says Jimmy, “I got to know John and Mike about 12 years ago when there was a Blue Note jazz club in Las Vegas and became good friends with both of them. The Vegas Blue Note was short-lived, but I was there almost every night for the duration of their gigs. I've jammed with Mike several times and asked him, 'If I make another record, will you play on it?' And Mike said 'sure'! Toss Panos, John Humphrey and I went into Toss's North Hollywood studio with Mike when he was in Los Angeles playing with his band at Catalina's.

Mike's playing on this album is just brilliant. Then John happened to come through town with Phil Lesh & Friends just a few months ago. I had mentioned to him that I was doing this album and he said, 'Hey, if you still have room on your CD, I'd love to play on it.' So that came to fruition as well. It was a dream come true for me to create this CD with three major heroes of mine and who have also become very good friends over the years.”

McIntosh's friendship with Ronnie Wood goes back to his solo debut, 'Orleans to London'. Jimmy recalls, “I first met Ronnie backstage at a Stones show in Las Vegas. Ronnie and Keith Richards were hanging out with Bobby Womack in the 'Tuning Room' were they Jam to warm up before the show. Art Neville did me a huge favor and called Jane Rose for me to meet Keith and Ronnie.

It was a wedding gift as I got married a week before (This was April 1999). Anyway a few years later I recorded my first CD 'Orleans To London' and Art Neville, Ivan Neville, Cyril Neville and Mean Willie Green (Neville Bros drummer) played on it. As I was near the end of the project in October 2004 I got in touch with Ronnie Wood through his stepson (Jamie Wood) who was his manager at the time and told him about my project.

Three weeks later my wife and I flew to London and went to Ronnie's house in Richmond were he played on 5 tracks (first takes). Ronnie said, 'I told Jeff Beck about your project and he might come by to play' - I was in shock! About 2 hours later Jeff showed up and ended up playing on 3 tracks. Ronnie said as Jeff was recording,

'You can't believe how lucky you are, he won't play on anything!' I'm not sure what Ronnie told him about the Neville's being on the record but it was amazing having both those guys on the record. Jeff is credited as 'Hot Rod' on 'Orleans To London' because his manager wouldn't let me use his name.

“Ronnie and I hit it off fantastically and stayed in touch so when I started a second record I was hoping he would play on it. I covered a tune from Ronnie's latest album called 'I Gotta See'. Ronnie plays a great solo and outro slide solo on the song. Ronnie and I also played two improvised Jams that open and close the album like bookends. The Jams are just the two of us live in the studio without the band. The Rolling Stones have been my favorite band since I was a kid so getting to work and play with Ronnie is literally a dream come true.

Ronnie is truly a great artist. It's amazing that all of the iconic records Ronnie has played on were mostly first takes on his part. He is really underrated as a musician. I wrote six originals for 'Jimmy McIntosh and...' Ronnie wrote one of the Jams 'Fast Blues' and we share credit on the opener 'Slow Blues'. I covered a few tunes... 'I Gotta See' by Ronnie Wood, 'Demon' by Keith Richards, '32 20 Blues' by Robert Johnson and 'Sophisticated Lady' by Duke Ellington.

Duke Ellington was a friend of my family when I was a little kid and greatly encouraged my interest in music. When I played French Horn in the Junior High School band I told my mom I was going to change something in the music. She asked Mr Ellington if I should do that and he said, 'I think you have a musician there!'

“The record was recorded at Toss Panos studio in North Hollywood. Toss is a great drummer I first heard with Michael Landau. John Humphrey (Scott Henderson Trio) is on bass on most of the record. Keith Hubacher is on bass on two tracks and Ivan Neville plays organ and Piano. Albert Wing who played with Frank Zappa among others plays Tenor Sax on 'I Gotta See' and 'Demon', a Keith Richards cover. Ronnie and Ivan are on both of my records which I'm very proud of. It connects the two projects.”

Born on October 14, 1958 in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Jimmy McIntosh grew up in the small town of Temperance, Michigan. After graduating from high school in 1976, Jimmy attended the Berklee College of Music for two years. Over the years McIntosh has played with R&B singer Doris Troy, Billy Preston, Little Anthony & The Imperials, and backed up Buddy Hackett and Ben Vereen, Since 1990, McIntosh has played regularly in the popular Lon Bronson All-Stars Band, a powerhouse horn band.

The Lon Bronson band had a longstanding weekly residency at the Riviera, where they entertained crowds 'til the wee hours and featured such special guests sitting in as former Doobie Brothers guitarist and producer Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, guitarist Joe Walsh, Members of TOP, comedian (and sometime trumpeter) Drew Carey, bassist-magician-comedian Penn Jillette and former “Tonight Show” guitarist, bandleader and Jay Leno sidekick Kevin Eubanks.

In 1999, following his longstanding engagement with the “Legends” show, McIntosh moved to the Rio Hotel to perform in a show with pop stars Sheena Easton and David Cassidy, then worked for the following two years in Cassidy's touring band. He has subsequently played with pianist-composer David Foster, Donna Summer, Kenny Logins, Gloria Gaynor and played in musical theater productions of “Mamma Mia” and “Jersey Boys.”

And now, after several years, Jimmy's long awaited sophomore album is now available! In closing Jimmy has this to impart, “My new album 'Jimmy McIntosh and...' is a real labor of love and hope people enjoy it!”

MOTOWN 25: YESTERDAY · TODAY · FOREVER NEW PBS RELEASE!

MOTOWN 25:
YESTERDAY · TODAY · FOREVER

LEGENDARY MOTOWN 25 TV SPECIAL
PUBLIC TV STATIONS NATIONWIDE
ON FEBRUARY 28, 2015

MOTOWN: BIG HITS & MORE
EXCLUSIVE BOXED SET OF MOTOWN HITS
FEATURING PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED VERSIONS OF CLASSIC SONGS

Motown 25: Yesterday – Today – Forever, an updated version of the legendary Motown 25 TV Special, will premiere on most public television stations on February 28, 2015 at 8pm ET, then will repeat immediately following. TJ Lubinsky, executive producer and co-host of public television’s “My Music,” series has created a 7-CD set of original Motown Hits, classic album tracks and rarities to accompany the airing of this classic special.

Titled Motown: Big Hits & More, the boxed set is a compelling collection of not just “the same old songs,” but many of the radio hits, regional hits and flip side favorites from the Gordy, Soul and Tamla/Motown labels. “I had the chance to grow up from New Jersey to South Florida to Pennsylvania, so I heard Motown on the radio not only in the Garden State, but also in New York and especially in Philadelphia”, says Lubinsky. “This gave me a special taste for different flavors of classic Motown that each region of the country loved to hear on the radio.

"In putting together this unique 7-CD set, I wanted to create a unique package that featured all these great songs, including 25 new stereo mixes of classic songs," Lubinsky elaborates. "We had the extraordinary opportunity to go through the Motown archives and have access to the original tapes and sessions, going back to the original stages and pre-mixed stages of recording sessions done at Hitsville gave us so many amazing surprises. Most often the songs went much longer than the fades we are used to hearing – and sometimes even extra verses were uncovered, like Smokey Robinson and The Miracles ad-libbing the line, 'the tracks of my tears, I’ve been crying for years' which has never been heard before because it was on the original session tapes past the fade-out on the 45."

The entire CD collection will be available to members that pledge to public television stations during the February 28 national broadcast of Motown 25 (8pm ET, 7pm CT - check local listings), and at www.treasurycollection.com. Motown 25 is under license from Berry Gordy’s West Grand Media and jointly distributed by StarVista Entertainment and TJL for public television stations.

Where we left off.....

THE FOUR OF PENTACLES: PRACTICAL AND RESPONSIBLE

The Four of Pentacles card suggests that my power today lies in possession. I choose not to be bound, identified, or paralyzed by ownership, possessions or means in order that I may always have a free hand and room to grow. I am practical, responsible, and determined about protecting my purpose or advocating for my resources. I am empowered by the status quo and my asset is value.

The Four of Pentacles indicates that you are in a position where you are financially stable and secure with solid investments. You are very conservative about money and are not inclined to gamble in financial matters. You are very protective of what you have accumulated over time, and slowly and steadily you increase your net worth through saving money and safe investments. You are self-sufficient both financially and emotionally, as you often equate money with emotional security.

THE BEANIE BABIES COLLECTING CRAZE OF THE LATE 1990'S

In the mid to late 90s my niece began collecting Beanie Babies plush toys...My Mom began buying them for her and thus, began buying them for my daughter too. Lesley wasn't all that interested in them. She was more obsessed with Pokeman Card collecting. But we did end up searching for "rare" Beanies online and buying some of the more expensive ones for a short while. I loved the bears and still have a few hanging around....But...some folks went crazy with it and this new book explains the whole debacle.....

In the late 1990s, Ty Warner, creator of the wildly popular Beanie Babies series of plush toys, had a 370,000-square-foot warehouse filled with his beloved collectible animals for kids. All told, the merchandise there represented “more than $100 million worth of product.”

Not one of those toys would ever see the inside of a store or home....read more HERE

MALCOLM X ASSASSINATED 52 YEARS AGO TODAY

“You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.” – Malcolm X

A ceremony was held in New York to honor black civil rights leader Malcolm X at the site where he was assassinated 50 years ago. Activists, politicians and actors were among some 300 people who paid tributes to Malcolm X in Harlem. They heard a call by one of his daughters to reassess her father's importance to civil rights in America. Read More Here

More Malcolm X  news...

The Nation of Islam petitioned President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder earlier this year to make available to the public all government files (unredacted) related to the assassination of Malcolm X.

The petition came following the release of the film titled “Betty and Coretta,” in which the film heavily alluded to Min. Louis Farrakhan being the mastermind behind the tragic 1965 assassination of Malcolm X. The film is executive produced by Mary J. Blige — who happens to be a dear friend of Min. Farrakhan — and examines the lives of Malcolm X’s wife, Betty Shabazz and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s wife, Coretta Scott King. Read More Here

THE UNIQUE TASTE OF TORONTO: DW ALEXANDER

Although many cities have similarities, each one of them is unique in its own way. For example, most of the European towns are situated near the river and they spread their streets in equal length from the city center. If there is a dominant architectural trend present in one of them, it usually spreads like a wildfire and sooner than later, most of the neighboring cities adopt that style.

Of course this is normal because people and institutions tend to follow the practice that brings positive results. Then, how do we differentiate one city from another? There can be numerous factors such as the demography, history of the area, primary industry etc. Even with all these global elements, there are smaller things which make a city unique. Small monuments or establishments that don’t exist elsewhere. Small places such as D.W. Alexander.

Like many other places in the world, there was a commercial reason for establishing Toronto in this area. In 18th century, there was a first fort created by French. Later on, English made a trading settlement on the very spot where Toronto today lies. Similarly, D.W. Alexander started as leather and hides shop.

With passing of time, it became a very modern bar and lounge. Its interior ranks among the best in Toronto. The dim lights and the dark tones makes you feel like you are in a 19th century London as the main protagonist of Bram Stoker’s novel.

Although very small by size, it is very spacious and well designed. The management didn’t want to sacrifice coziness for additional tables. This is very important because many clubs today suffer from being too crowded. The notion of having fun is eliminated if you have a person breathing down your neck.

However, people are those that make the atmosphere, not the interior itself. In that regard, you are in the right spot. The staff is transferring their positive energy to you, so most of the people are relaxed and comfortable in this place. Furthermore, as previously mentioned, the space is small and a bit darker making it intimate. Slow and relaxed pace of the bar will make you feel like you are surrounded by friends, not strangers. This is a perfect spot in Toronto to meet new people. Perhaps even for a romance.

The main reason why this bar and lounge in Toronto is so famous are its cocktails. Although the selection of liquor is excellent, the cocktails are a fresh of breath air. For those that don’t want to try new things, there is a list of Classic Cocktails which are standard in this part of the world. The D.W. Originals represent homemade mixtures based on innovative recipes.

Each one of them has numerous diverse ingredients, some of which are specific to this lounge. Don’t be surprised when you see things like D.W. Black Pepper and Coriander Tincture or D.W. Saffron Infused London Dry Gin on the list.

Each city has something that defines them. Perhaps a museum or a structure that makes it unique. In Toronto, that is the CN Tower. When we talk about the entertainment, there are only a few places worth mentioning. One of them is D.W. Alexander.

In addition to this concert, music fans across the nation have a year full of fantastic concerts ahead of them this year on the big screen.”

"Cinema 1 is delighted to be a partner in presenting ‘Daryl Hall & John Oates: Recorded Live From Dublin’," said CEO Ray Carolin. "The legendary rock duo's concert is an astonishing visual that will not disappoint fans."

HILARIOUS NEW BOOK! : TEXTASTROPHE BY MATT ANDREWS

Hi Kim- I wanted to give you a heads up about the uproarious new book, TEXTASTROPHE: A Collection of Hilariously Catastrophic Text Pranks (St. Martin’s Griffin; February 17) – born out of real life pranks the book is an expansion of the popular Textastrophe Tumblr with tons of never before seen material.

For Matt Andrews, it all started during an exceptionally boring shift at the smart phone kiosk in the mall. With ample time to procrastinate, he decided to check out Craigslist where he saw an ad requesting that the reader text a personal cell phone number for more information. This led to a series of hilarious exchanges and the beginning of his prank text empire. Among the many LOL moments in TEXTASTROPHE, he shows us what happens when you:

Offer to barter two sub-sandwiches for a used motorcycle
Text a mysterious man off Craigslist to build a man cave in your basement
Text the manager of a chain restaurant about your unsatisfactory dining experience

KIMMER LOVES TO PLAY BINGO!

online bingo games

BINGO is such a fun game to play for prizes...I have won cash, lawn furniture, plants, gift certificates and jewelry too....I like to play 20 hard cards and 2-18 paper sheets with red daubers....Yes you might call me a HARD CORE Bingo player....no talking to me while the numbers are being called...I keep my head down and I play with chips in both hands....must concentrate...but I WIN..

I play online bingo games now as it is more convenient than driving to the American Legion hall. I used to have to drive a lot to find churches and halls that feature bingo nights. Now I can play anytime day or night from my computer. Much more fun and I don't need the chips or daubers.

Bingo began in Italy and can be traced back to a lottery game called "Il Giuoco del Lotto d'Italia" played in c.1530.

I began playing Bingo in kindergarten as it was a great teaching aid for numbers and letters.

By the eighteenth century, the game had matured, and in France, playing cards, tokens, the reading out of numbers had been added to the game. In the nineteenth century, Bingo was widely used in Germany for educational purposes to teach children spelling, animal names, and multiplication tables.

Le Lotto was then subsequently created by the French in 1778. This unique lotto variation featured 27 squares in a unique layout of three rows and nine columns. The numbers within the boxes ranged from 1 through 90. Only five squares within each row contained numbers which subsequently led to the design of modern day bingo...Now having it online makes it even more fun!

CALLING FROM A STAR: NEW AUTOBIOGRAPHY FROM GUITARIST MERRELL FANKHAUSER

Merrell Fankhauser has led one of the most diverse and interesting careers in music. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and moved to California when he was 13 years old. Merrell went on to become one of the innovators of surf music and psychedelic folk rock. His travels from Hollywood to his 15-year jungle experience on the island of Maui have been documented in numerous music books and magazines in the United States and Europe.

Merrell has gained legendary international status throughout the field of rock music; his credits include over 400 songs published and released. He is a 2011 Grammy nominee and multi-talented singer/songwriter and unique guitar player whose sound has delighted listeners for over 50 years.

This extraordinary autobiography tells a unique story of one of the founding fathers of surf rock, who went on to play in a succession of progressive and psychedelic bands and to meet some of the greatest names in the business, including Captain Beefheart, John Lennon, The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Willie Nelson… and there is even a run in with the notorious Manson family.

“I started the book in 1990 after years of friends and fans telling me I've had such an adventurous life that most Rock Stars don't have.. Playing with so many music icons, moving to Maui searching for the Lost Continent of MU, and now over 400 songs published...! I kept trying to finish the book but because of my live playing schedule, writing, recording and doing a regular TV show, California Music 1990 - 1995, Tiki Lounge 2001 - to now it took years to finish!” - Merrell Fankhauser

Merrell Fankhauser is considered one of the main innovators of surf music and psychedelic folk rock, and is widely known as the leader of the instrumental surf group The Impacts who had the international hit “Wipeout”.

DETROIT MASONIC TEMPLE PAYS OFF ELECTRIC BILL!!

Great news the Masonic caught up on their huge utility bills and with the help of a great team they are booking gigs and rolling right along! Not quite ready to announce this just yet but Dennis Thompson and I have joined forces and booked July 25, 2015 for a special one night only show....Machinegun Thompson's Detroit Special Forces is the tentative title and our line up is coming together nicely.....stay tuned for more on that...

Here is the Masonic Update from the Free Press....

The lights will stay on at the Detroit Masonic Temple.

As of last month, the landmark, which had owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to DTE Energy, is current on its gas and electric bills.

"We want the resilient people of Detroit to know that the Temple is here to stay," Bradley Dizik, special adviser to the Detroit Masonic Temple board of directors, said in an e-mail. "We accomplished this monumental feat by channeling Detroit's scrappy spirit to defend one of its most cherished institutions."

Scott Simons, a spokesman for DTE Energy, confirmed that the Masonic gas and electric bills are up to date.

The change marks a remarkable turnaround for the venerable venue on Temple Street near Cass Avenue that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is touted as the largest Masonic temple in the world. It also has a rich musical history, having hosted acts that included the Rolling Stones, the Who and MC5.

DTE Energy had threatened to shut off the Masonic's gas and electric service in August 2012, and the Masonic owed as much as $427,579 in gas and electric bills in May 2013.

Selasee Atiase & Fafa Family - The Highlife Soul of Reggae: Selasee & Fafa Family Dig at the Roots, Ghanaian Style, on Time for Peace - 02/02/2015 - Release
Ghana. A proud kingdom that’s flourished in the decades since independence. It’s the home of highlife, the musical style that spread all across Anglophone West Africa before taking a turn for the global. And highlife, sweetly blended with reggae and soul, is the root of Time for Peace, the new album by Selasee & Fafa Family.

Jah9 - Jazz on Dub, Jah9 Coming to Brooklyn Feb 6th - 02/06/2015 - Brooklyn, NY
hen Jah9 sings, hearts and minds awaken. Old school blues with lyrical prowess, in a rich imaginative blend of vocal clarity and complexity. She sings with a voice that belies the dimensions of her physical body, from a soul much older than its current vessel. Her philosophy is profoundly spiritual, and her style is Jazz on Dub.

The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina reggae jam rock trio, TreeHouse! explores new depths of rhythms, themes and other elements in their third studio album, Lifted, set to release March 10th, 2015. The band is set to tour most 2015 throughout the East Coast, and Mid-Atlantic, performing hundreds of shows a year.

Dubbest might still be young and still growing, but there’s a wise, musical head on those shoulders. And a vision for the future of American reggae. “We change the set list and jam on stage,” MacKenzie says. “We touch the roots side of reggae more than many American bands, but we like to explore, too. It’s high energy.
