STANLEY T MADHATTER TRIBUTE IN THE DETROIT NEWS!

Emcee 'Stanley the Mad Hatter' set stage for rock greats

Susan Whitall / The Detroit News

A particularly colorful part of the funky tapestry that was Detroit's rock scene of the 1960s is now gone, with the death Sunday of Stanley the Mad Hatter, longtime Detroit rock emcee and gadfly.

Stanley — his real name was Stanley Zillifro — died at home in Ypsilanti, of complications from prostate cancer. He was 62. Read Susan's great story HERE

Thank you Susan!

I was at a concert and Stanley was the MC at Eastown, so I'm standing on the stage and Stanley walks up to me and he asked if I'd introduce the next band. Then he handed me his top hat.So I went out and did it then walked off stage handed him his HAT and went home... Goodbye Stan RIP

In the late 70s when Stanley lived in a house around Maple and Miller in a subdivision with his roomate Lester, I used to visit frequently with my then boyfriend and good friend of Stanley and Lester's , Greg Charles....I remember that he (Stan) had me try vegetarian pizza with wheat crust for the first time. He was always so kind and generous and funny."

Every time I saw Stanley I would stop.....our eyes would meet to say hello! The last time I saw Stanley was at the Kerrytown Concert House for Patti Smiths's daughter's piano concert & Patti did some readings. When I was leaving our eyes again said 'hello.' I thought Stanley would be around forever! Sorry for the loss of your friend Kim. You two were a couple of 'characters:)' Be at peace Stanley! We will continue to celebrate your love of life!
