JOHN WAITE: IF YOU EVER GET LONELY

British Blues/Rocker John Waite

A request came in tonight for me to feature John Waite and his latest song "If You Ever Get Lonely". So I ran over to You Tube to check out this new song and John blasts it out of the park! I have always loved his voice and of course his main hits "Missing You" and "Every Time I Think of You".

I chose this video below over his official one as he looks so much prettier in this one....

Thanks for calling it’s so good to hear your voice,
You keep breaking up in all the static and the noise,
But I'll keep listening ‘cause I never had a choice,
When it came to you.
I’d love to see you
If your ever out this way,
You sound happy guess things are working out Ok
And I’m getting better at putting one foot in front of the other.

And I know that California's not to blame
And I know there's millions of people in L.A.

Chorus:
(But) If you ever get lonely, if you miss me
If you need someone to listen
Even if it’s only the sound of someone’s voice who loves you
That you need to hear, you know where to find me
If you ever get lonely.

Sounds like a good time, going down at the other end,
You've got a new life and a new love
a whole new set of friends
And I'm still listening do you expect me to pretend
That I don’t love you, I don’t love you.

Chorus:
But if you ever get lonely, if you miss me,
If you need someone to listen
Even if it’s only the sound of someone’s voice who loves you
That you need to hear, you know where to find me
If you ever get lonely, lonely oh yeah.

Were you ever really listening, were you ever really there?

Chorus:
But if you ever get lonely, if you miss me,
If you need someone to listen
Even if it’s only the sound of someone’s voice who loves you
That you need to hear, you know where to find me
If you ever get lonely, lonely ,
If you ever get lonely.

John Charles Waite (born 4 July 1952) is an English rock singer and musician. He was lead vocalist for The Babys and Bad English. As a solo artist, he scored several international hits, including 1984's "Missing You", a top ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, reaching #1 in the US.

Waite was born in Lancaster, England. He first came to attention as the lead singer and bassist of The Babys, a British group which had moderate chart success, including two pop hits that both coincidentally peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Isn't It Time" (1977) and "Everytime I Think Of You" (1979),[ and a solid following for their concert tours. Over the course of five years, the band produced five albums ending with the final album On the Edge in October 1980, after which the group broke up.

Waite subsequently launched his solo career with his 1982 debut album Ignition, which produced the hit single "Change". The Chrysalis 45 failed to chart on Billboard's Hot 100 during its initial release but was a top track on AOR radio stations as well as a very popular music video on MTV as the 'new' cable channel celebrated its first full year of operation.

In 2011 the title track from his tenth solo album " Rough and Tumble " went number one on Classic Rock radio...

THE REAL LIFE GIDGET: KATHY KOHNER

Kathy Horner aka Gidget

One of my favorite tv shows was Gidget with Sally Field. It was a lightweight, fun, and entertaining show. Funny thing... until today I never knew there was a "real" Gidget! I stumbled across this video about Kathy Kohner the surfer girl of the mid-1950s. It would appear that after Kathy's book came out and then the release of the first Gidget Movie in 1959... the billion-dollar Malibu/surf industry began...

Kathy Kohner-Zuckerman

Widely recognized as a pioneering female surfer and an inspiration to generations of surfer girls worldwide, Kathy Zuckerman is the Real Gidget. She was ranked seventh among the 25 most influential surfers of all time in Surfer Magazine's 40th-anniversary issue.

Sally Field as Gidget

Kathy Kohner Zuckerman was born in 1941 and grew up in Southern California. She also spent some of her childhood living in Ketchum, Idaho, and Berlin, Germany. Kathy's Father, Frederick Kohner, was a screenwriter, and her mother, Mimi, was an outdoor enthusiast.

As a teenager in the mid-50s, Kathy spent several summers surfing near the Malibu pier with a group of young surfers who dubbed her "Gidget," meaning "girl midget." Kathy conveyed many of her experiences on the beach to her father, who, in 1957, went on to write the landmark novel "Gidget." The novel spawned a series of movies and TV shows for Columbia Pictures, and Gidget became an American icon.

RETROKIMMER MEETS MICHAEL ALLMAN

Michael Allman and Retro: Kimmer

What a great day in Detroit! Kimmer met up with Michael Allman and his old friend and road wrangler Terry Sach at a Cuban Cigar Bar. I had filmed at this bar before and loved the bright colors and laid back atmosphere.

After interviewing Michael by phone Monday... Rikki thought it would be a good idea to meet Michael an hour ahead of his appearance in Detroit on Friday.

Being the son of Gregg Allman who has always been a powerful influence in southern rock, Michael sounds like his poppa but really has motown roots. As a kid Michael traveled across the south but was brought up mainly in Michigan. How cool is that? Listen to his voice and it's definitely Gregg Allman's son but definitely with some Motown bottom on it.

One of the nicest guys to meet... with so much talent and such a soulful voice. I look forward to working with him on some future music projects.

Michael arrived early so we had a lot of fun hanging out for almost 2 hours! Took a lot of photos and shot 3 fun videos.

Michael's two guitar players from his Green Door gig showed up from Kalamazoo to back Michael up at UDetroit Cafe. Lucky for us Michael decided to play a bit as a rehearsal and how thrilling it was to hear that voice! No mic necessary!

Michael is so kind and straightforward! You ask him a question and he will answer it... Our interview together on camera was like over 11 minutes. We could have had a 2 hour interview if my battery hadn't conked out on me!

I just loved talking and hanging out with Michael... he is just such a great man... One of the things that I particularly loved about him is how highly he spoke about his girlfriend Alex. Really nice to hear positive when so many go negative...

Lightnin Hopkins was one of my main early influences learning guitar. I used to learn his songs, copy his riffs.

I saw Daddy Long Legs play in Brooklyn earlier this year and was blown away by the sheer energy. His killer blues harp playing will feature on some tracks on my upcoming solo album.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CHRISSIE SHRIMPTON

Chrissie Shrimpton

**UPDATE**

We found Chrissie, she is living happily in England, has grandkiddies and an online business. I wrote to her to see if she would talk about her life and she seems to be disinclined to revisit that time...Can't blame her for that so we won't post her current photos or name. We wish Chrissie and her family the very best!

With the current tragic news about L"Wren Scott's suicide, I am seeing a lot of traffic to this story. Read more on that topic HERE

Chrissie Shrimpton Mick Jagger

There is almost no information on her current life on the internet... That is pretty amazing considering her sister is super model Jean Shrimpton and she was a girlfriend of Mick Jagger. Odd isn't it? I wonder.... Where in the world is Chrissie? I am really good at online research too...

I did find this info:

Now 65, Miss Shrimpton, who dated Jagger from 1963 to 1966 and is the sister of model Jean, says: "I used to go to clubs in London and I would have a bar bill that he would pay but I had to go home at a certain time.

Mick and Chrissie

"He would often phone up and I was told I had to go home now. I would be taken to the car and he would ring at home at three in the morning. I kind of liked that.

"My role was to make him very kind of ordinary and it was my ordinariness that was my downfall because I was dumped because I was so uncool. I was told that all the time." Jagger is said to have written the song Stupid Girl in a jibe at Miss Shrimpton.

Rolling Stones' Wives and Girlfriends

Jagger's girlfriend until 1966, and said to be a favorite of his parents at the time. She is the sister of photographer David Bailey's favorite model Jean Shrimpton. Jagger left her for Marianne Faithful, and several years ago filed an injunction against her to prevent publishing his private love notes to her. Rolling Stones songs written about Chrissie: Under My Thumb, Stupid Girl, & 19th Nervous Breakdown. Their relationship was stormy at times...
