NEW SINGLE FROM AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER/MUSIC PRODUCER DR CHRISPY

San Francisco, CA – DR CHRISPY (aka Dr. Chris Boshuizen) is an award-winning aeronautical engineer, music producer, and songwriter who has spent the last 16 years tragically torn between two loves: Music and Space Exploration.

His new single “VOYAGER AT THE HELIOPAUSE” will release online everywhere music is streamed and sold on June 14, 2019. The single is a tribute to the NASA Voyager spacecraft that launched in 1977 and returns stunning images from our solar system that inspired Chris to pursue his passion for space.

Accompanied by a music video featuring historically accurate animated recreations of those classic images, “VOYAGER AT THE HELIOPAUSE” is a soothing and ambient electro space jazz track.

DR CHRISPY runs his home studio in San Francisco where he is actively writing and recording new music. DR CHRISPY’s first full-length album VHS released in 2018 and was widely praised by national and international reviewers.

A collection of mostly instrumental tracks, Chris began writing VHS in 2003 while traveling as an aerospace engineer. The tracks were written all around the world and capture the vibe of each place and moment in time.

Having worked at NASA for almost five years inventing new kinds of spacecraft, Chris went on to cofound the company Planet Labs, which launched and monitors over 200 spacecraft that create a daily map of the global environment.

During all this, Chris spent nearly every spare moment writing music on the one instrument he always had with him: his laptop. Much of his music was written at airports or on planes, and over a 16-year period, he has amassed an impressive catalog of material with over 300 tracks.

Wanting to get some of his music out to the world, Chris decided to pursue his art full-time, adopting the nickname “Chrispy” that was given to him by his NASA co-workers. Unlike other notable “doctors” in the music industry, DR CHRISPY has a Ph.D. in Physics, and in 2014 he won the Advance Global Award for being the Greatest Australian Not Living in Australia.

Chris bought his own computer in 1998, but using it for homework was an afterthought. Instead, he built an audio workstation complete with an 8-channel studio sound card and mixing desk and set out to learn studio engineering and mixing.

He also took up frequent guitar lessons, but over time his music workstation was replaced with a laptop, and as his space career took off, Chris naturally developed a new habit of producing electronic music while traveling. After completing his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Sydney he found a position at NASA Ames Research Center in Northern California, one of NASA’s 10 centers around the US.

There Chris worked on several fascinating projects, including a lunar lander, an electric airplane, and he also co-invented the world’s smallest satellite called PhoneSat.

With the success of PhoneSat, Chris and his friends were emboldened to try something ambitious, so they left NASA to start Planet Labs.

Today Planet Labs has launched over 200 satellites that were designed under Chris’s leadership. Leveraging his years of experience with computer music, Chris has taught the introductory workshop on electronic music production at the last two annual Taxi Road Rallies in Los Angeles.

Chris has no regrets about pursuing his space career but always felt music would one day become his focus. With a lifetime of music production experience and a lower-stress job that afforded him a bit more free time, he assumed his alter-ego as DR CHRISPY and suddenly entered a prolific phase of writing with the feeling he now had something to say.

DR CHRISPY’s goal as an artist is to connect music and tech while bringing a message of hope and empowerment to his audience.

In 2016, DR CHRISPY began creating lyrical songs in addition to his instrumental music. This material will be released on his next album project. Chris still hopes one day to take himself beyond the Earth’s atmosphere and feels he still has the passion to start another space company one day.

You can catch more of Chris’s space and technology thoughts on his personal twitter account at twitter.com/cboshuizen.

“VOYAGER AT THE HELIOPAUSE” will release online everywhere music is streamed and sold on June 14, 2019.

RELEASE OF LESLIE VAN HOUTEN OVERRULED BY GOVERNOR AGAIN!

Associated Press, last Monday governor Gavin Newsom overruled a parole board’s January decision to free Van Houten, after former governor Jerry Brown denied her release twice in previous years.

“While I commend Ms. Van Houten for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledge her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings and her potential for future violence,” Newsom wrote in his decision, according to the AP.

“Ms. Van Houten was an eager participant in the killing of the LaBiancas and played a significant role,” he added.

A former homecoming princess, Van Houten was convicted — along with other members of Charles Manson‘s “family” — of the brutal 1969 slayings of Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary. She was 19 and the youngest of the group at the time.

Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy.

But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

SECRETARIAT WINS THE TRIPLE CROWN JUNE 9 1973

With a spectacular victory at the Belmont Stakes, Secretariat becomes the first horse since Citation in 1948 to win America’s coveted Triple Crown–the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. In one of the finest performances in racing history, Secretariat, ridden by Ron Turcotte, completed the 1.5-mile race in 2 minutes and 24 seconds, a dirt-track record for that distance.

Secretariat was born at Meadow Stables in Doswell, Virginia, on March 30, 1970. He was sired by Bold Ruler, the 1957 Preakness winner, and foaled by Somethingroyal, which came from a Thoroughbred line known for its stamina. An attractive chestnut colt, he grew to over 16 hands high and was at two years the size of a three-year-old.

He ran his first race as a two-year-old on July 4, 1972, a 5 1/2-furlong race at Aqueduct in New York City. He came from behind to finish fourth; it was the only time in his career that he finished a race and did not place. Eleven days later, he won a six-furlong race at Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, New York, and soon after, another race. His trainer, Lucien Laurin, moved him up to class in August, entering him in the Sanford Stakes at Saratoga, which he won by three lengths. By the end of 1972, he had won seven of nine races.

With easy victories in his first two starts of 1973, Secretariat seemed on his way to the Triple Crown. Just two weeks before the Kentucky Derby, however, he stumbled at the Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct, coming in third behind Angle Light and Sham. On May 5, he met Sham and Angle Light again at the Churchill Downs track in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby. Secretariat, a 3-to-2 favorite, broke from near the back of the pack to win the 2 1/4-mile race in a record 1 minute and 59 seconds. He was the first to run the Derby in less than two minutes and his record still stands.

Two weeks later, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, Secretariat won the second event of the Triple Crown: the Preakness Stakes. The official clock malfunctioned, but hand-recorded timers had him running the 1 1/16-mile race in record time.

Big Red with owner Miss Penny

On June 9, 1973, almost 100,000 people came to Belmont Park near New York City to see if “Big Red” would become the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown. Secretariat gave the finest performance of his career in the Belmont Stakes, completing the 1.5-mile race in a record 2 minutes and 24 seconds, knocking nearly three seconds off the track record set by Gallant Man in 1957. He also won by a record 31 lengths.

Ron Turcotte, who jockeyed Secretariat in all but three of his races, claimed that at Belmont he lost control of Secretariat and that the horse sprinted into history on his own accord. Read More

GRAMMY WINNING SAXOPHONIST DAVID SANCHEZ:NEW LP CARIB!

David Sánchez

Yesterday, Grammy-Winning Saxophonist David Sánchez released his new album Carib via Ropeadope / Stretch Music. Sánchez is celebrating the album's release this weekend with performances at Jazz Standard in New York on June 7th, 8th & 9th.

Listen to David Sánchez's Carib: https://fanlink.to/Carib

WBGO's Nate Chinen recently praised Sanchez's song "Morning Mist" as a "thrilling overture," and described it as "Beginning with an unaccompanied tenor line that sets the groove, it’s a composition built on folkloric polyrhythm but suffused with silvery modern harmonies."

Carib is released via Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah's Stretch Music label (an imprint of Ropeadope). Adjuah says of the album:

"Carib finds David at the height of his powers. Its no question whether he is one of the preeminent saxophonists of the last few decades, that's a given. He's as killer as anyone who has ever touched the horn. This document, however, speaks to me as a testament to the prowess of his compositional voice, to his mastery of the interplay and relationships found in creative improvised music's vernacular and rhythmic spaces."

Featuring original compositions inspired by melodies and rhythms coming from the Afro Puerto Rican and Haitian tradition, Carib both reflects Sánchez's musical heritage as well as his commitment to humanitarian and economic justice efforts in the region. "I believe some of the greatest contributions to contemporary music and culture have come from the African diaspora throughout the Americas," writes Sánchez.

"Unfortunately, there seems to be too little awareness of their influence, especially the vital stories told by the music. So, I wanted to approach this album as a means to pay tribute to all Afro-descendent communities who have helped define my music and the culture’s broad-ranging beauty and idiosyncrasies.

Sánchez also seeks to honor his family who played a pivotal role in his life and artistic development. "This album is in memory of my Father, Dimas and especially, my late wife Karla," he writes. "After a great deal of research and listening to Haitian music, Karla encouraged and helped me take a trip to Haiti. It was an incredible and intense experience, seeing the everyday people's struggles"

Sánchez's unique musical sensibility can be traced to his home, Puerto Rico, where he began playing percussion and drums at age 8. He migrated to tenor saxophone a few years later. While a scholar at the prestigious La Escuela Libre de Música in San Juan, he took up the flute, clarinet as well as soprano saxophone with teachers Angel Marrero and Leslie López.

The Bomba and Plena rhythms of his homeland, along with Cuban, Caribbean and Brazilian traditions, were among the biggest influence on Sanchez's early taste in music.

But soon jazz masters such as Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, and John Coltrane would command his ear and his imagination. Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Henderson all have been also major influences.

David Sánchez is also "Maestro Sánchez" to students at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. After a decade of teaching, he has proven to be a compelling presence with students and is in demand for workshops and master classes in Puerto Rico and beyond. In 2017 he helped form a new program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, The RJAM (Roots, Jazz, and American Music).

In addition to his collaboration with the Conservatory of Puerto Rico and The Conservatory of San Francisco, Sánchez has taught master classes in Brazil, at the Peabody Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University's School of Music, Stanford University, University of Memphis, Emory University Berklee Global Institute and completed a year-long residency at Georgia State University.

Two pieces songs from Carib, "Canto" and "Fernando's Theme", are featured in the soundtrack of the film Windows on The World by Robert Mailer Anderson. The film includes performances by Ryan Guzman and Edward James Olmos, and made its premiere in February 2019 at the Sedona Film Festival.

EIGHT OF CUPS: LOOKING FOR ANSWERS

The Eight of Cups shows a journey, which on the surface, looks to be about a cold, lonely climb to the top but in reality usually implies you are feeling that you need to go within yourself, to find yourself.

There is a stillness around this image which says you do not want to be followed, conversed with or questioned on what you are thinking and feeling. Read More on Lotus Tarot

*NEW* THE BALLAD OF JETHRO TULL: NEW BOOK AND 7" SINGLE

The Ballad of Jethro Tull is the hotly anticipated official illustrated history of the legendary prog-rock band, due for publication by Rocket 88 Books in November 2019.

Today, Ian Anderson announced two new recordings have been created especially for the project. The first, ‘The Ballad of Jethro Tull’ is a narrative poem written and read by Ian Anderson over a unique and original mix of classic Tull music, produced by Anderson himself – and named after the title of the book.

The b-side is Ian reading Walter Scott’s 1808 poem, ‘Marmion’ with musical backing composed for the recording and played by John O’Hara (current Tull keyboard player) on a cathedral organ.

The new 7” single will be exclusive to the 500-copy limited run ‘Signature Edition’, each copy signed by Ian, and encased in a hand-made box containing two art prints specially commissioned for the book from renowned artist Peter Klucik, who also created the cover design for the book.

The ‘Classic Edition’ of the same book will have a higher print run, be available at a lower price point, and include a download code for the two new recordings.

In a specially recorded video for the website www.jethrotullbook.com, posted today, Ian Anderson, who is overseeing the project and has contributed unseen images and materials from his personal archive, said that the book is 'under construction' and available to pre-order now, for shipping in November.

Fans who pre-order now will be able to have their name printed in the finished book.
