Ann Arbor, Mich. – The State Theatre is pleased to announce its first prime-time film series in recent history: the Studio Ghibli 30-Year Retrospective Film Series, presented by the U-M Center for Japanese Studies.
Tokyo-based Studio Ghibli is one of the longest-running and most successful animation film studios in history. Eight of Studio Ghibli's films are among the 15 highest-grossing anime films made in Japan. Many of their works have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award; four have won the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year; and three (Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and The Wind Rises) have been nominated for an Academy Award. Studio Ghibli is headed by acclaimed directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki.
The series includes the following films (all of which are in Japanese with English subtitles unless otherwise noted):

- Wed., 11/19 at 7:00 PM - Princess Mononoke
- Tue., 11/25 at 7:00 PM - Spirited Away
- Sun., 11/30 at 1:30 PM - My Neighbor Totoro (free for kids 12 & under; dubbed in English)
- Wed., 12/3 at 7:00 PM - From Up on Poppy Hill
- Wed., 12/10 at 7:00 PM - The Wind Rises
Advance tickets are available at ticketweb.com. Tickets are $10 (general), $8 (students, seniors, veterans, kids 12 and under), $7.50 (Michigan Theater members), and $7 (midnight movies).
