HUMANS SEASON 2: GET READY FOR THE PREMIERE FEB 13 ON AMC

Humans is one of the most well written and acted television series I have had the pleasure of streaming. Lots of my favorite British actors and also featuring American's superb actor William Hurt.

The series, written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks, Spooks: The Greater Good), is set in a parallel present and explores what happens when the lines between humans and machines are blurred. The eight-episode second season picks up several months after the events of Season 1, with Niska (Emily Berrington) still at large and in possession of the consciousness code. Her synth family, Mia (Gemma Chan), Leo (Colin Morgan of MERLIN), and Max (Ivanno Jeremiah), unaware of her location, are each trying to find their place in the world while Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) and Laura (Katherine Parkinson) attempt to mend their marriage.

As unconfirmed reports surface of Synths behaving inexplicably, the ripple effects of one simple yet seismic decision sees the past return dramatically and surprisingly to the door of the Hawkins house. Joe, Laura, and the entire family are faced with a difficult choice that will put the family under an intense spotlight. As an emerging form of intelligent life – the Synths – and an established one – humanity – fight for their places in the world, a thrilling multi-stranded narrative evolves which continues to ask: Who has the right to determine what it means to be alive?

HUMANS, which will return on Monday, Feb. 13th at 10/9c.

37 YEARS AGO: JOHN GOTTI MURDERED TOMMY DESIMONE JAN 14 1979

Joe Pesci Ray Liotta Robert Deniro in Goodfellas

Thomas Anthony DeSimone, also known as Two-Gun Tommy or Tommy D, was a Sicilian-American gangster and associate of the Lucchese crime family in New York City. Right from the outset Tommy was very familiar with the Mafia world and was known for his violent temper.

Tommy DeVito was a character in the blockbuster 1990 Academy Award winning Martin Scorcese film GoodFellas. The role, played by veteran character actor Joe Pesci (Go Home and Get Your Shinebox!)

John Gotti killed him on this day in 1978 for The mobster — famously portrayed by Joe Pesci in “Goodfellas” — killed two made men, tried to rape the wife of his gangster pal Henry Hill and stupidly lifted his ski mask during 1978’s historic $6 million Lufthansa heist.

So John Gotti took care of it — personally. capo used a silencer-equipped Colt .38 to shoot DeSimone three times in the skull in January 1979 in the basement of an Italian restaurant on Arthur Avenue in The Bronx, says in the book, “The Lufthansa Heist,” written by Hill and journalist Daniel Simone.

It’s the first book where the details of Gotti’s role in the death of the 28-year-old psychopath have been revealed.

Tommy DeVito was based on real-life gangster Thomas 'Two-Gun Tommy' DeSimone, renowned for his violent temper. According to the real Henry Hill, Pesci's portrayal was “90 to 99 per cent accurate”, with two notable exceptions. Firstly, DeSimone was a big, burly enforcer, standing 6 ft 2in and weighing 210 lbs. He was terrifying. Joe Pesci is 5'4 and he was pretty scaring even at that height..Can't imagine that character being so big.

Hill heard the specifics surrounding DeSimone’s murder from Sal Polisi, a Gotti confidant he met in the Witness Protection Program. When Hill collaborated with author Nicholas Pileggi on “Wiseguy,” the 1986 book that was the basis of “Goodfellas,” he withheld the information on DeSimone’s slaying because he feared reprisals from Gotti, who by then had risen to become godfather of the Gambino crime family.

NEW BOOK** FIREBALL: CAROLE LOMBARD &THE MYSTERY OF FLIGHT 3

Clark Gable at the funeral and the Headlines after the crash

On January 16, 1942, TWA Flight 3 struck Nevada's Mount Potosi at 200 miles an hour, killing Hollywood's brightest starlet, highest paid actress, and wife of 'King of Hollywood' Clark Gable -- Carole Lombard -- and 21 others, in a fireball seen in the moonless sky for fifty miles.

Three investigations by the Civil Aeronautics Board, U.S. Congress and FBI failed to find a definitive cause for the crash -- which has become of the most enduring mysteries of WWII-era America.

January 16, 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the plane crash that shocked the nation -- and also sees the trade paperback release of Robert Matzen's book Fireball: Carole Lombard and the Mystery of Flight 3, presenting the first-ever in-depth examination of the events that led to the fateful crash.

Fireball reveals:
  • Carole Lombard’s place in Hollywood history as a champion of women’s rights, wife of screen legend Clark Gable, and the highest-paid actress of her day
  • The unlikely love story between Carole Lombard and Clark Gable -- who were very much the 'Brangelina' of their day
  • Why three investigations (Civil Aeronautics Board, the United States Congress, and the FBI) failed to find a definitive cause for Flight 3's crash
  • The wreckage from the crash that still covers the inaccessible Nevada mountainside (which Matzen scaled to find thousands of pieces of the plane still there, including the engines and landing gear)
  • The heroic actions of ordinary people from Las Vegas, who, on January 16, 1942, suddenly found themselves involved in an extraordinary event
  • The love story between Carole Lombard and Clark Gable
  • 31 unpublished photos taken of Lombard the day before she died

About Robert Matzen:
Robert Matzen is the author of seven books, including the award-winning Errol & Olivia: Ego & Obsession in Golden Era Hollywood and the bestsellers Fireball: Carole Lombard and the Mystery of Flight 3 and Mission: Jimmy Stewart and the Fight for Europe.

Regularly interviewed by international press, including the New York Post, Hollywood Reporter, and BBC, Matzen’s previous print work includes many articles about classic films, and the Greenwood Press reference volume, Carole Lombard: A Bio-Bibliography.
