DETROIT VISIONARY MIKE ILLITCH DIED AT 87

The Amazing Mike Illitch July 20, 1929-February 10, 2017

Mike Illitch passed away today at 87. Mr. Illitch will be sadly missed. Mr. Illitch was Detroit's biggest cheerleader and invested so much back into the city he loved, Detroit, Michigan.

Mike and Marian Ilitch hoist the Stanley Cup on June 16, 1998 in Washington, D.C. after the Red Wings won their second consecutive NHL title by sweeping the Capitals. Vyacheslav Kozlov is at left.

Before his death, the Ilitch organization had embarked on a massive $1.2-billion District Detroit project, transforming dozens of blocks of largely vacant land in downtown Detroit into a vibrant neighborhood that will include office, retail and residential spaces, as well as the new Little Caesars arena. The project will continue under the leadership of his son, Christopher Ilitch, who became president and CEO last year, amid reports of Mike's ailing health.

Ilitch was at the center of Detroit's downtown redevelopment efforts; he purchased and renovated the Fox Theatre and relocated his business headquarters (Ilitch Holdings) there. He also owned Olympia Entertainment.

He bought the Red Wings and brought them back to life. Then when the Tigers were suffering under the ownership of another pizza mogul, Illitch bought the Tigers. The fans rejoiced!

Ilitch is survived by his wife and business partner, Marian, and seven adult children, Christopher Ilitch, Denise Ilitch, Atanas Ilitch, Mike Ilitch Jr., Lisa Ilitch Murray, Ronald Tyrus Ilitch, Carole Ilitch Trepeck

THANK YOU MR ILLITCH!

SNOW MOON-LUNAR ECLIPSE-COMET FEB 10-11 2017

SNOW MOON

On February 10, we are not going to be treated to not just one celestial event on the same day but three. A lunar eclipse, snow moon and New Year comet should all be visible this Friday night into Saturday morning.

Penumbral lunar eclipse

Eagle-eyed skywatchers will see a "penumbral" lunar eclipse Friday evening during the full moon.

An unusual green comet reaches maximum brightness on Saturday, providing a sweet treat for early-morning risers.

Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova (named after three astronomers who discovered it in 1948) travels into the inner solar system every 5.25 years. On Saturday, 45P will pass just 7.4 million miles from Earth, a stone's throw by celestial yardsticks.

Not as spectacular — or noticeable — as a total lunar eclipse, this rather subtle phenomenon occurs when the moon moves through the outer part of Earth’s shadow (known as the penumbra), according to EarthSky.org.

The outer shadow of the Earth blocks part — but not all — of the sun's rays from reaching the moon, making it appear slightly darker than usual.

The exact moment of the penumbral eclipse is 7:43 p.m. ET (6:43 p.m. CT, 5:43 p.m. MT and 4:43 p.m. PT), NASA said.

The eclipse will be visible from Europe, Africa, western Asia and eastern North and South America, NASA reports.

About 35% of all eclipses are of the penumbral type.

The next full moon will be:
Friday * 10th February 2017 * 07:32:53 pm
Eastern Standard Time (EST)
Moon sign: Leo 22° 28'

PATSY CLINE: AMERICAN MASTERS PBS MAR 4 2017

PBS Born Virginia Patterson Hensley in Winchester, Virginia, Patsy Cline defined modern country music by using her singular talent and heartwrenching emotional depth to break down barriers of gender, class and genre.

In her music and her life, she set a standard of authenticity towards which artists still strive. After years of hard work to overcome industry gender biases and her own personal hardships and professional missteps, she achieved success, only to have it punctured by uncanny premonitions and her untimely death at age 30 (March 5, 1963).

The new documentary Patsy Cline: AMERICAN MASTERS premieres nationwide beginning March 4 on PBS (check local listings, see below for confirmed airdates) during Women's History Month as part of the 31 st season of THIRTEEN's AMERICAN MASTERS series. 2017 marks the 85 th anniversary of Cline's birth (September 8, 1932).

Narrated by Rosanne Cash, Patsy Cline: AMERICAN MASTERS examines the roots of Cline's impact in both personal and cultural terms to illuminate how she arrived at a pivotal moment in the evolution of American culture and, with Decca Records producer Owen Bradley, synthesized country, pop and rock in a new way to create the NASHVILLE Sound.

With exclusive access to the Cline estate, the film features rare performances of such Cline classics as "Walkin' After Midnight," "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray," "Come On In," "I Fall to Pieces," "Crazy," "You Made Me Love You" and more.

The documentary also features exclusive archival interviews with Cline's contemporaries and new interviews with a wide range of artists who have been influenced by Cline: LeAnn Rimes, Kacey Musgraves, Rhiannon Giddens, Wanda Jackson, Bill Anderson, Beverly D'Angelo, Callie Khouri, Reba McEntire, Mickey Guyton, Terri Clark, and more.

Cline boldly bucked female conventions of the 1950s with her fashion sense, her decision to divorce, her support of fellow female artists, and her assertive ambition to get opportunities equal to those of her male NASHVILLE peers, such as the same kind of headliner billing and radio airplay, particularly after breaking free of her unfavorable contract with Four Star Records.

The series will premiere nationwide, beginning March 4 on PBS (check local listings) during Women’s History Month as part of the 31st season of THIRTEEN’s American Masters series.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II CELEBRATES SAPPHIRE JUBILEE!

Today marks The Queen's Sapphire Jubilee. It has been 65 years since Her Majesty acceded to the throne.

On 6 February 1952, King George VI sadly died following a prolonged illness. Princess Elizabeth immediately acceded to the throne, becoming Queen Elizabeth II and taking on all of the responsibilities which came with her new title.

In the photograph, The Queen is wearing a suite of sapphire jewellery given to her by King George VI as a wedding gift in 1947.

Celebrate Queen Elizabeth ll's Sapphire Jubilee On Accession Day 2017 - 65 Years On The Throne!

20 FACTS ABOUT THE QUEEN

1. The Queen was born at 2:40am on April 21 1926 - the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York.

2. The infant princess was third in line to the throne - and was not expected to be Queen.

3. She was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in the chapel at Buckingham Palace.

7. Princess Elizabeth never went to school - she was educated at home with Princess Margaret, her younger sister.

8. As a child, she was called Lilibet, and her nickname for her sister Margaret Rose was "Bud" because she was "not a real Rose yet".

13. At the very moment her father died in Sandringham on February 6 1952, Elizabeth, unaware of the momentous change to her life, was watching the sun rise over the jungle, having climbed to a lookout post at the top of a tree in Kenya.

18. The Queen has an iPod and a cell phone.

19. She sent her first tweet - signed "Elizabeth R" - from the British monarchy's official Twitter account in 2014 at the opening of a new Science Museum gallery.
