OCTOBER 4, 2014: MARCH FOR ELEPHANTS WORLDWIDE LOCATIONS

http://www.march4elephantsandrhinos.org/#!

On October 4th people in cities throughout the world will march as one voice to save Elephants and Rhinos. The countdown to their extinction has begun. Unless action is taken now, we will lose these majestic, highly intelligent, and emotionally sentient creatures FOREVER.

More than 35,000 elephants are being killed every year so their tusks can be carved into ivory trinkets. A rhino is slaughtered once every 9-11 hours for its horn. Their only hope for survival lies in an immediate end to the ivory and rhino horn trade (both "legal" and "illegal") and the chance to recover from decades of mass slaughter.

Please join the global march to call for an end to the killing and a ban on ivory and rhino horn before it's too late.

Lori Bergemann and all of us at Amara Conservation support the International March for Elephants and encourage everyone to get out and help save the elephant from extinction..

IS JACK WHITE STALKING HIS EX-WIFE?

The Nashville City Paper reports that Elson sought the restraining order after months of threats and harassment in the two years after their split, which was celebrated with a “breakup party” intended to show that the two were parting on good terms.

Elson has custody of their two children, and has claimed that White is unfit to be a parent. The order says that she “fears for her and the children’s safety as a result of this harassment,” and claims that White has a violent temper and tendency to send menacing emails and texts. KID ROCK ON DETROIT'S BANKRUPTCY

"It's a blow, but we've been taking blows for years," Kid Rock tells Billboard. "I don't think people are that surprised with the bankruptcy -- I mean people I know in Michigan. Everywhere else they are.

Now that everything's out in the papers and they're giving all the statistics about Detroit and the shape it's in and this, that and the other people outside are like, 'Wow, I had no idea...'

They know Detroit's run-down and it's dangerous and it has political problems, but when they start reading the statistics, that's what they really talk about. But I don't think it's a big shock to anybody in the area. We've all known what's going on."

Rock himself has been a major supporter of and ambassador for Detroit over the years, including through is own charitable foundation and his Made In Detroit apparel company. But he hesitates to voice an opinion about what he thinks should be done to clean up the situation. FULL STORY ON BILLBOARD

DETROIT: LARGEST CITY TO FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY IN US HISTORY

Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr announced that the city has reached key settlements with creditors as the city tries to relieve itself of billions in debt.

Snyder signed off on the filing in a letter attached to court documents filed Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of Michigan. A spokeswoman for Snyder did not immediately return telephone calls Thursday.

"It is clear that the financial emergency in Detroit cannot be successfully addressed outside of such a filing, and it is the only reasonable alternative that is available," Snyder said in the letter granting his state-required approval. "In other words, the City's financial emergency cannot be satisfactorily rectified in a reasonable period of time absent this filing."

Snyder continued: "I have reached the conclusion that this step is necessary after a thorough review of all the available alternatives, and I authorize this necessary step as a last resort to return this great City to financial and civic health for its residents and taxpayers. This decision comes in the wake of 60 years of decline for the city, a period in which reality was often ignored." FULL STORY HERE

DAVID LEE ROTH: JUST A GIGOLO....

"Just a Gigolo" is a popular song, adapted by Irving Caesar in 1929 from the Austrian song "Schöner Gigolo, armer Gigolo", written in 1928 by Leonello Casucci (music) and Julius Brammer (lyrics).

The original version is a poetic vision of the social collapse experienced in Austria after World War I, represented by the figure of a former hussar who remembers himself parading in his uniform, while now he has to get by as a lonely hired dancer.

The music features a simple melodic sequence, but nonetheless has a clever harmonic construction that highlights the mixed emotions in the lyrics, adding a nostalgic, bittersweet effect.

"Just a Gigolo" is best known in a form recorded by Louis Prima in 1956, where it was paired in a medley with another old standard, "I Ain't Got Nobody" (words by Roger Graham and music by Spencer Williams, 1915).

Although these two songs have nothing else in common, the popularity of Prima's combination, and of the Village People's 1978 and David Lee Roth's 1985 cover versions of the medley, has led to the mistaken perception by some that the songs are two parts of a single original composition.

RICK SPRINGFIELD AND MITCH RYDER AT DETROIT YACHT CLUB

As the sun dropped down below the horizon, an orange crescent moon hung in the sky, and the electronic synth began to play as 70's and 80's power-pop rocker, Rick Springfield, took the stage.

The proclaimed"Rick's Chicks" were a bit older now, but their enthusiasm for this Australian musician was still just as strong. You could tell by their screams for him as he came on stage. His music was high energy, until he broke out the acoustic for a heartfelt song he wrote about his late father. His setlist also included some of his hits like "Affair of the Heart" and"I've Done Everything for You."

The fans aren't the only ones who gained some years. Springfield mentioned he turns 64 in August, and after his first couple of songs, he said that recovering between songs get's harder as you get older. He then invited the audience to sing happy birthday to him, which was gladly performed.

The beer was flowing and feet were moving. When "Human Touch" came on, Springfield even went out in the audience and gave high fives, shakes, and even kisses on the hand.

The screen behind the band played music videos of a younger Springfield, and even scenes from the film Titanic during his songs "Our Ship's Sinking." Springfield has a new album out called "Songs for the End of the World," with a track titled "I Hate Myself 'Cause I Want You" which he also performed.

The Yacht Club parking lot was a surprisingly charming venue, with the river so nearby, and the skyline of Detroit in the distance.

Although the line-up changed, the musicians and audience had no problem exercising their rockin' muscles.

Despite his impromptu appearance, Ryder and his band are no slouches in the rock and roll department, and the crowd got out of their seats for the Detroit icon.

The band covered"Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child." He played some of his hit singles like "Devil With A Blue Dress On."

His band was polished, and executed some tasty licks, and rather sick guitar solos, for a crisp and dynamic performance. Even a youngster like myself could appreciate this Detroit gem.
