The New Regime's upcoming show in Detroit on September 20th will be at The Fillmore. The one-man band features Ilan Rubin (previous drummer for Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Angels & Airwaves) The New Regime will be touring in support of their forthcoming EP Heart out on September 6th. (Los Angeles, CA) - Angels & Airwaves member (and Nine Inch Nails drummer) Ilan Rubin is serving double duty this fall. As frontman of the new rock act The New Regime, he'll be filling the direct support slot on Angels & Airwaves' North American fall tour. The multi-instrumentalist--also known for a successful stint with Paramore, as well as work with Beck, M83 and more--will be releasing new music to coincide with the trek.
The tour runs from September 4th in Tempe, AZ and wraps on October 9th in Los Angeles, hitting major markets along the way such as New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, DETROIT and more. Rubin, whose young age defies the amount of work he's already tackled, was recently called "Nine Inch Nails' secret weapon" (Metal Injection) and "one of rock's most in-demand drummers" (Louder). He got an early start, playing in bands and touring globally since the age of 9. Today, however, it can be argued that the multi-instrumentalist's best work happens when this one-man-band is fronting-and backing The New Regime.
The band's previous releases have been featured by massive press outlets such as Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, NME, Alternative Press, and Modern Drummer and have seen them share the stage with Muse, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, The Used, Juliette Lewis, Alice In Chains, and more. Reuniting for First North American Tour in 32 years - Releasing Limited Edition “The Road To Utopia” Box Set
FOR 32 YEARS, FANS HAVE BEEN CLAMORING FOR A REUNION - The wait is over.
No longer able to turn a deaf ear to the unceasing requests from fans and the media alike, Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox and Ralph Schuckett are reuniting for their first North American tour since the Chernobyl nuclear reactor exploded. Presented by Sirius XM and produced by Live Nation, TODD RUNDGREN’S UTOPIA will be performing across North America beginning on April 18.
In celebration of the upcoming reunion tour, Friday Music will be releasing a 7-disc box set, THE ROAD TO UTOPIA: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS (1974-82). This limited edition collection will bring each of their seven classic albums to life, now in first-time CD digipak gatefold covers featuring the original album artwork elements, rare inner sleeve art, newly written commentary from the band, and more. Todd Rundgren’s Utopia was formed in 1974 out of Todd’s desire to explore new musical territory. Starting as a prog-rock-progenitor septet the band’s music ranged from extended synth experiments to four-song albums, while their live shows were distinguished by their ahead-of-the-curve video backdrops and computer-generated music.
In 1976 the band evolved into “Utopia”, the shiny mainstream power-pop rock quartet, uniting Todd Rundgren on guitar, Willie Wilcox on drums, Roger Powell on keyboards, and Kasim Sulton on bass. Known for their hallmark lyrics, lush inventive background vocals and a voracious appetite for the highest level of musicianship. Utopia became known as the quintessential “musician’s band”. Every member took his turn singing lead on every album, and all songwriting was collaborative.
By 1980, Utopia had developed into a hit-making entity in its own right. Standout Utopia albums included Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia, and Oblivion, spawning hits including “Rock Love,” “Set Me Free,” “Mated,” and “Love Is The Answer”, which also became a global #1 for England Dan and John Ford Coley.
Utopia’s tours, among the first to aggressively incorporate then-state-of-the-art video technology, produced at Todd’s groundbreaking Utopia Video Studios, featured some of the most lavish and audacious stage productions in rock history.
Their headline concerts frequently featured opening acts as future superstars Cheap Trick and The Cars, and the band performed at some of the 70’s most epic rock festivals, including Knebworth Castle in the UK --- once with the Rolling Stones in 1976 and twice with Led Zeppelin in 1979, before a combined audience of over 1,200,000 (amongst them a Who’s Who of rock royalty, including Paul McCartney and David Gilmour) .
Always on the bleeding edge, Utopia chalked up a long history of groundbreaking media “firsts”, including:
• 1978: The first interactive television concert, broadcast live over Warner/QUBE, the experimental interactive cable system in Columbus, Ohio (the home television audience chose each song in real time during the concert by voting via QUBE’s 2-way operating system).
• 1978: The first live nationally broadcast stereo radio rock concert (via microwave), linking 40 cities around the country.
• 1982: The first live national cablecast of a rock concert (on the USA Network), simulcast in stereo to over 120 radio stations.
In 1986, after ten years of non-stop recording and arena touring cycles, the band declared they were “going on sabbatical”, and Todd, Willie, Roger and Kas each embarked on their own career paths.
What’s been happening with the Utopians during the world’s longest ever sabbatical?
Todd Rundgren returned to his stellar solo recording and producing career. His myriad production projects ranged from Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, XTC, and Psychedelic Furs to Grand Funk Railroad, Hall & Oates, and Meat Loaf’s seminal Bat Out Of Hell, while his solo offerings catapulted Todd further into the superstar limelight with hits like “Can We Still be Friends”, and “Bang The Drum”; in addition to his own tours, Todd has been an erstwhile member of Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band for the past 28 years.
Kasim Sulton continued touring and recording with a long list of diverse artists including Joan Jett, Hall & Oates, Blue Oyster Cult, Patti Smith, Celine Dion, and Meat Loaf.
In 1993 Kasim joined Meat Loaf’s live band after the release of Bat Out Of Hell II, touring extensively and becoming his Musical Director. In 1999 he produced Meat Loaf’s critically acclaimed VH1 Storytellers album. Releasing four solo albums of his own, Kasim has continued his long musical relationship with Todd as the bass player in his solo bands.
Willie Wilcox continued to pursue his songwriting career. Having written songs for & performed with Luther Vandross, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, Meat Loaf, Hall & Oates, and Kylie Minogue positioned Willie perfectly for his segue into television writing.
He was the senior staff composer for NBC Universal in NY for 5 years and composed the current show theme for CNBC’s “Mad Money,” launched a major audio post production facility in Miami with clients MTV & VH1, penned famed boxer Manny Pacquiao’s ring walk music, and continues to maintain his position as senior audio director at Scientific Games, the number one gaming company in the world, where he recently completed the surround sound audio production on the blockbuster Michael Jackson game, “King Of Pop!”
Ralph Schuckett: Ralph’s tenure with Todd Rundgren’s Utopia segued into composing themes & scores for TV & Film including “Kate & Allie” & “Another World.” As chief composer for “4 Kids Productions” he scored numerous feature films & animated TV series including; “Pokémon,” “Yugioh,” “Sonic X,” “Kirby,” & “One Piece.”
He has recorded and /or toured with Carole King, Hall & Oates, Whitney Houston, George Benson, and Rodney Crowell, and provided arrangements on recordings for Billy Joel, Michael Bolton. and Joan Osborne. As a songwriter / producer Ralph has worked with Belinda Carlisle, Sophie B. Hawkins, and Clarence Clemons.
As fate would have it, in early April Todd, Kas, Willie and Ralph will find themselves back in Woodstock New York, 32 years later, right where it all started, rehearsing their newest stage spectacle.

PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 2, 2015) — The spectacular Philadelphia Fillmore, hailed as the “best live rock music venue in the United States,” has formed a uniquely special bond to the iconic legacy of the original Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco after discovering an extraordinary link to the past in its own back yard. And the results will be unveiled on opening night as a treasured keepsake for everyone in attendance.
To commemorate the sold-out Grand Opening concert Oct. 1 starring Hall & Oates, Live Nation has commissioned 1960s Fillmore poster artist Bonnie MacLean, a Philadelphia native and the onetime wife of legendary concert impresario and Fillmore Auditorium founder Bill Graham, to design a distinctive souvenir poster which will be handed out free to ticket-holders that evening.
“We are thrilled and privileged that Bonnie has come on board to exclusively lend her singular authenticity to the Fillmore Philadelphia,” said Michael Grozier, Sr. Vice President, House of Blues Entertainment. “We’ve gone to tremendous lengths to write a new chapter to Philadelphia’s proud musical heritage by honoring the legendary traditions of Fillmore music halls around the country, and we can’t wait to see what she creates not only for us, but also for the 2,500 patrons who will pack the house on Opening Night.”
MacLean was among the driving forces behind the rise of the San Francisco rock music scene of the late '60s, with the success of the Fillmore Auditorium due in no small part to her groundbreaking posters promoting the venue's concert attractions. She moved back to the East Coast in 1972 and settled in rural Bucks County, PA, where she has been living ever since, painting nudes, landscapes and still lives in her converted barn studio. She remains best-known for her series of historical hand-drawn rock posters, among the most sought-after collectible poster art in rock. Some of MacLean’s posters sell today for as much as $10,000.

“I’m quite pleased to be recognized by Live Nation as the person I was 50 years ago,” said MacLean. “The Fillmore Philadelphia will spread the joy of what used to be the most wonderful music venue around. Philadelphia, being a musical city, will enjoy it and appreciate it.”
The Fillmore Auditorium, which first opened in San Francisco in1965, is one of this country’s landmark performing stages. That Fillmore was the focal point of the psychedelic music scene during the 1960s and ‘70s, helping to launch the careers of iconic rock acts such as the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Santana, The Doors, The Allman Brothers Band, and many, many others which helped it grow into the legend it is today.
MacLean, already married to Graham at the time, helped her then-husband launch the Fillmore Auditorium by joining the staff to collect tickets, pass out handbills, and count receipts. Her initial contribution as an artist was simply drawling lists of band lineups on the coming attractions board at the top of the stairs, before she eventually stepped in to create more than 30 posters for shows featuring the likes of the Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Cream, the Yardbirds, and numerous others.
The opening of The Philly Fillmore marks the seventh Fillmore now open in the U.S., and the latest addition to a legendary group of music venues that traces its lineage to rock history’s golden era. The newest Fillmore is a major component in the continued revitalization of iconic Fishtown and is rising at one of the city’s historic addresses, the legendary Ajax Metal Factory.
The building, at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Richmond Street, is being transformed from a pounding WWI munitions machine constructed over 100 years ago into a beautiful, pounding music machine of a different sort, 2015 style, with a distinct Philly flair.
The crew loaded into the Fillmore at 9:00 am, right after going across the street and playing some ice hockey at The Winter Classic, nothing like a puck in the face to get you going in the morning. Then it's down to business, get the PA and lights up. 12 Noon Steve Badalament brought the drums in and set them up, then the rest of the guys started showing up for sound check.
By three o'clock it was time for the Rockets sound check. We kicked up a few songs and it sounded really good. Then it was Citizen Zero's turn. I sat out in the empty Fillmore and listened to this new young up and coming band that opened for Kid Rock over the summer at DTE. They were smokin'...
Then the Rock-A-Billy Boys showed up for their sound check...The shit kickin' Horse Cave Trio. Anybody that says they're not nervous has never been to war before! Ok I'm glad we got there early now what the f**k were we gonna do for seven hours. I know let's lay around the dressing room on folding chairs and try and get a nap in. Ha!!!
The doors open at 7:00pm and the crowd starts swarming in....Horse Cave Trio are up first and they did an ass kickin rock your shoes off set. Next up Citizen Zero with these youngsters...
And now to the head lining act everybody had been waiting for....The Rockets..were still upstairs crunched up in their folding chairs. GET UP IT'S TIME TO ROCK!!!!

They jumped into it like pros....The lights go down and the thundering intro of "Desire" begqn....Hot Damn. Without a moment's breath they launched into "Takin' It Back" now things were starting to sound like The Rockets the crowd came to see.

Then right into "Don't Hold On" Then Jim Edwards, the singer says here's one Bee played on when he was with the band Detroit Featuring Mitch Ryder, and they jump into Lou Reed's penned song and the Detroit Band version of "Rock & Roll"
Things were grooving now. The Band played one of the new songs that was just recorded called "Ridin' The Earth".....And they were ridin' it alright. Next up a crowd favorite called "Born In Detroit."

Everybody was singing along. and then the band threw in another new song called "Whiskey Head" a hard drinking song about down south roadhouse ram shackle whiskey joints.

Then The Rockets played their homage to all lost friends and a song written about Detroit Renegade J.B.Fields, who left us to early....

And for all are fighting Men & women in the armed services who have not returned, in a Bee written song called "Lost Forever, Left For Dreaming." And then the band launched into another new song called "Detroit Woman" Talk about losing your balls....Hot Damn. These boys were rolling now.
Talk about a freight train. Then the band played a favorite of hard core Rockets fans from the old days called "Ramona" and then they jumped into "Turn Up The Radio"

After this song. Greasy Carlisi put on his Bed pan guitar and played some slide guitar. Greasy always finds stuff in the alleys and makes guitars out of whatever he finds. He found it on this night. Then he threw it over to Joe Gaydos who revved up some smokin' guitar and the band launched into one of the big hits "Oh Well" which the crowd sang back loud and hard.
After a few more encore songs the boys when back to their dressing room and sat on there folding chairs. What a night. Thank you everybody who came out. Fans, Friends, and family. Much love to all. Rocket Roll!
