Bolt d'Oro was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm. He was sired by Medaglia d'Oro, winner of the Travers Stakes and fourth in the 2002 Kentucky Derby. As a sire, Medaglia d'Oro is best known as the sire of Hall of Fame inductee Rachel Alexandra and multiple Eclipse Award winner Songbird. Bolt d'Oro was the second foal out of Globe Trot, a daughter of A.P. Indy. Her first foal, Sonic Mule, was also a stakes winner.

Bolt d'Oro (foaled March 17, 2015) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who is one of the early favorites for the 2018 Kentucky Derby. At age two, he won his first three starts, including the Del Mar Futurity and FrontRunner Stakes, before finishing third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

He started his three-year-old campaign by winning the San Felipe Stakes by disqualification and finishing second in the Santa Anita Derby.

CONVICTS TAKE OVER CHILDREN'S CHARITIES

Corprit Convict

Kentucky-based, heavy metal band Corprit Convict is partnering with Kosair Children's Charity and the Ronald McDonald House in an effort raise money for the children's hospital and family-housing facilities.

On May 9, 2014, the female-fronted-foursome will be headlining a show at Phoenix Hill Tavern starting at 9:00 pm. All proceeds earned by the band for that show will go to support both charities.

On April 22, 2014, the band released their debut, Come Clean, with a portion of the album sales also going to support both charities.

KT (singer) and Evan (drummer) have a deep, personal connection with both charities. "Our son, Hayden, spent the first 4 weeks of his life at Kosair before he passed away 3 months later. The nurses there took excellent care of our boy and they were just amazing all around. I'm so happy we can finally give something back," - KT.

Kosair Childrens' Hospital is Kentucky's only full-service, free-standing pediatric care facility dedicated exclusively to caring for children and is an advocate for the health and well-being of all children.

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a place families of seriously ill children call home during crisis and uncertainty. Since opening their doors, they have helped more than 70,000 family members from all 50 states and several international locations. Since opening their doors 30 years ago, they have given more than $1,000,000 in grants to organizations that support children.

RETRO KIMMER IS HONORED AS A KENTUCKY COLONEL!

The commission of Kentucky Colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. It is recognition of an individual's noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to our community, state and nation.

I Retro: Kimmer, am a KENTUCKY COLONEL...no joke I really am. I was appointed by the only woman Kentucky Governor The Honorable Martha Layne Collins on my birthday February 9, 1986. I have attended the Kentucky Colonel Pancake Breakfast at the Kentucky Derby in the past and drank Mint Juleps with other Colonels at the Derby/Churchill Downs... Y'all take a peek at the history of the Colonels... Elvis Presley was one too! xK

Kentucky colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Commissions for Kentucky colonels are given by the Governor and the Secretary of State to individuals in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to a community, state or the nation. The sitting governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky bestows the honor of a colonel's Commission, by issuance of letters patent.

History

The title "Kentucky colonel" was first formalized in 1813, but was in informal use before that to refer to people with honored reputations, often related to military service in the American Revolution.

It was often associated with landowners respected in their communities. When the Kentucky Militia was deactivated following the War of 1812, Governor Isaac Shelby commissioned Charles Stewart Todd, one of his officers in the campaign, as an aide-de-camp on the Governor's Staff with the rank and grade of colonel. (Todd married Shelby's youngest daughter two years later.)

Early colonels served military roles in the state. In the latter part of the 19th century, the position took on a more ceremonial function. Colonels in uniform attended functions at the Governor's mansion and stood as symbolic guards at state events. By the late 19th century, the title had become more of an honorary one. But, since commissioned Kentucky colonels are considered members of the Governor's Staff as his honorary aides-de-camp, all are entitled to the style of "Honorable" as indicated on their commission certificates. This is rarely used, however; Kentucky colonels are usually just referred to and addressed as "Colonel". In writing, usage is Kentucky colonel when the term is not being used as a specific title for an individual.
