ERIC CLAPTON'S ALL STAR JOURNEYMAN LP

Eric Clapton's 'Journeyman' Album Feat. George Harrison, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall, Robert Cray, Phil Collins and others Now Available On Hybrid SACD

“...one of the greatest rock/blues guitarists on the planet!”

Camarillo, CA - Much to the elation of Eric Clapton fans across the globe, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity has released Clapton's 'Journeyman' album as a limited numbered edition Hybrid SACD! Eric Clapton is a true legend. 'Journeyman' reached #16 on the Billboard album chart and became Clapton's first solo studio album to go double platinum. Like any of his best albums, there is no grandstanding to be found on 'Journeyman'...it's simply a laid-back and thoroughly engaging display of his virtuosity. The album was heralded as a return to form for Clapton, much of it has an electronic sound, mostly influenced by the 1980s rock scene, but it also includes blues songs like “Before You Accuse Me,” “Running on Faith,” and “Hard Times.”

“At the center of it all is Clapton's guitar work...stinging blues and soaring pop.”

There is an all-star assembly of guests: Dire Straits keyboardist Alan Clark, George Harrison, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall, Robert Cray, Cecil and Linda Womack, Phil Collins and Gary Burton. Among the highlights are several cuts that feature slide-versus-slowhand guitar dueling with Cray. George Harrison is particularly impressive on his little masterpiece “Run So Far,” playing guitar and singing harmony vocals.

A couple of tracks rank among Clapton's best from any decade. The strongest commercial single is “Bad Love,” which won the 1990 Best Male Rock Vocal Performance Grammy Award, and reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart. “Pretending” is a firm mid-tempo rocker that also reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart and and includes one of his most assured vocal performances ever.

Clapton sounds more convincing than he had since the early '70s. Not only is his guitar playing muscular and forceful, his singing is soulful and gritty - he seems to have struck the perfect balance between the fiery blues of his youth with the pop flavorings of his later years.

TRACKS:

Pretending
Anything for Your Love
Bad Love
Running on Faith
Hard Times
Hound Dog
No Alibis
Run So Far
Old Love
Breaking Point
Lead Me On
Before You Accuse Me
Produced By Jill Dell'Abate & Russ Titelman
Mastered by Steve Hoffman

I LOVE BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO......☯★☮☯★☮ MAGIC BAG MARCH 6!!

Just in from Willy Wilson:

BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO is playing the MAGIC BAG in Ferndale March 6, 2014 at 8pm..If you have never seen them play get your dancin shoes outta that closet....!! EVENT PAGE HERE

Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr. was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1947. He acquired his nickname because, with his braided hair, he looked like Buckwheat from The Little Rascals. His father was an accomplished, non-professional traditional Creole accordion player, but young Buckwheat preferred listening to and playing R&B.

He became proficient at the organ, and by the late 1950s was backing Joe Tex, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown and many others. In 1971 he formed Buckwheat and The Hitchhikers, a 15-piece funk and soul band. They were a local sensation and found success with the single, “It’s Hard To Get,” recorded for a local Louisiana-based label.

Never a traditional zydeco fan when growing up, Buckwheat nonetheless accepted an invitation in 1976 to join Clifton Chenier’s Red Hot Louisiana Band as organist. He quickly discovered the joy and power of zydeco music, and marveled at the effect the music had on the audience. “Everywhere, people young and old just loved zydeco music,” Buckwheat says. “I had so much fun playing that first night with Clifton. We played for four hours and I wasn’t ready to quit.”

GUITARIST STEVE HUNTER RECORDING IN SAN FRANCISCO 2013

Steve Hunter photo by Markus Cuff

Just in... Karen Ann Hunter sent in a guest post today on the current activities of her husband, the unstoppable Steve Hunter.....

Steve has had a hugely productive year, with the release in April of his fifth solo album ‘The Manhattan Blues Project’ to critical acclaim, not just for his powerful performances but by the performances of the guests who participated and the quality of the compositions and audio.

Then he had the opportunity to film a DVD in LA of his own material dating back to his first solo album ‘Swept Away’ and selected tunes from his other solo albums ‘The Deacon, Short Stories’ and ‘The Manhattan Blues Project’, this project was produced by Brian Brinkerhoff and Paul Lani. The players were Phil Aaberg on keyboard (Peter Gabriel), Tony Levin on bass (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) and Alvino Bennett on drums (Dave Mason, Robin Trower).

The DVD and a CD of the same will be ready for release in the spring of 2014. But there will be a couple of short film previews prepared ahead of the release.

Steve has spent this week in San Francisco recording on a project headed by the same production team as the DVD, with Hammond B3 player Ike Stubblefield (Rare Earth, Boz Scaggs), renowned Cuban percussionist Orestes Vilató (Santana), Alvino Bennett on drums and the awesome Reggie McBride (Rare Earth, BB King) on bass.

The premise for this project was to have only rough layouts of new material from Ike and Steve then arrange and record the entire album in five days on the floor of the studio. The process was filmed at the same time and shows these amazing players working off the cuff and doing what they do best which is be masters of their craft, it will also give Steve Hunter fans an opportunity to hear him improvise searing solo ‘s that will take your head off. This album will also be released some time in 2014.
