LEGENDARY SESSION SUPER GROUP THE HITMEN RESUME TOUR IN AUGUST

NEW YORK (July 20, 2018) ― As Yussuf Islam, aka Cat Stevens turns 70 this weekend (July 21), Jimmy Ryan of THE HIT MEN, who played guitar on 1974’s multi-platinum Buddha and the Chocolate Box album, recalls how Stevens’ voice back then had a “transformational” ability in the recording studio to turn a track into “instant magic.”

A primary example of Stevens’ wondrous studio flow, Ryan explains, was during the session for the song “Sun-C79”. Ryan wanted to write out a rough chart of the song’s multiple chord and mood changes.

Stevens had other ideas.

“He wouldn’t have it,” recounts Ryan now lead guitarist of THE HIT MEN, the popular “real deal” musicians who’ve separately delivered dozens of hits to the classic rock superstars of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. “He kept saying ‘just follow along,’ as he loosely wandered from half singing/speaking it, sometimes with a guitar, often while holding a guitar and not playing. His approach was for us to ‘get’ the song emotionally first, then work out the details later. “

After quite a few rounds of this, recording began and a coherent track eventually emerged. Not amazing, by Ryan’s standards, but OK. Ryan discretely whispered that opinion to Jean Roussel, the keyboardist, who knowingly smiled back and said to just “wait for it.” Stevens then stepped up to the mike, the track started rolling, the engineer pressed “record,” and …

“… I was a witness to instant magic,” says Ryan. “His voice brought the song up to a whole new and unexpected level, creating that amazing sound and sung story telling he is so famous for. I’ve never seen a track transformed so quickly and thoroughly by anybody since! For me, that summed up the artistic genius that is Cat Stevens…and the Billboard charts agree.”

In the ensuring months, Buddha and the Chocolate Box was Certified Platinum (over 1 million units sold), and the artist known now as Yusuf/Cat Stevens cemented his place in music history as a Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer!

After decades performing or recording with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, The Who, Carly Simon, Cat Stevens, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, and dozens more, THE HIT MEN have become a Supergroup unlike any other.

What the Wrecking Crew meant to the pop music revolution of the ‘60s, THE HIT MEN have meant to some of the most indelible hits of the ‘70s, ‘80s and beyond. It’s only now that the evolution of THE HIT MEN’S story – fueled, in part, by their countless first-hand experiences as eyewitnesses to rock history – has become a revelation.

From transistor radios, vinyl, 8-track tapes and cassettes to the Sony Walkman, CD's, digital downloads and the Apple iPod, THE HIT MEN ― Jimmy Ryan (lead guitar/vocals, and Carly Simon’s former musical director), Lee Shapiro (keyboards/vocals, and Frankie Valli’s1970s musical director), Jeff Ganz (bass/vocals), Russ Velazquez (vocalist/keyboardist/percussionist), and Steve Murphy (drummer/vocalist) ― have seen and heard it all. And they have the stories to go with it! The Don’t Stop U.S. Tour, having already criss-crossed the U.S. with an all-new production featuring the most recent chapters in THE HIT MEN’s “Hits-tory,” resumes in August.

THE HIT MEN recently took another major step toward stardom on their own terms, with the release of their first original music video from their first original single, “You Can’t Fight Love,” off the DON’T STOP album.

SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
50th Anniversary

Byrds co-founders Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, along with country music legend Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the seminal Sweetheart of the Rodeo album at the Akron Civic Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Released some 50 years ago, The Byrds’ album “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” is universally regarded as the big bang of country-rock, the first album to truly fuse the two genres in a way that baffled and alienated both the group’s rock fans, and was met with suspicion by the country musicians these young long-hairs idolized.

Along with founding Byrds Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman (the latter of whom came up as a bluegrass musician), it showcased the talents of Gram Parsons — who would go on to be a pioneer of the genre before his 1973 death from a heroin overdose — as well as guitarist Clarence White, who died in a car accident that same year.

With three drummers up front including Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey, as well as the return of multi-instrumentalist Bill Reiflin on keyboards, guitarist, and original founding member, Robert Fripp, states that this “double quartet formation” is likely to make more noise than ever before. Rounding out the eight piece line up are guitarist and vocalist Jakko Jakszyk, long-time bassist Tony Levin, and saxophonist Mel Collins, who was a mainstay of Crim from 1970-1972.

As well as standard tickets, the band's label, DGM, also has announced sale of VIP Royal Packages, limited to just 60 per show. Details can be viewed at the label's interactive and recently redeveloped website, www.dgmlive.com.

Here's what the press have raved about King Crimson's summer 2017 North American tour:

“On our final evening at the festival, we were witness to the concert that inevitably proved to be its highlight...The blend of mood, melody, ambiance and atmosphere dazzled the audience, which responded with frequent standing ovations.” - Lee Zimmerman, Goldmine Magazine

“Complex musical structures, the power, the intensity and the flight of guitars, flutes and especially drums, the progressive rock of King Crimson unfolded like never...With a dense and complex performance that perfectly coincided with the title of the tour entitled Radical Action, King Crimson took over all the years of his long career, offered new material and transported the music lovers to their rich universe and especially without compromise.” - YVES LECLERC, Journal de Quebec

“Fripp and his band offered an impeccable performance in two stages. No melodies, no flapping, only musicians at the top of their art.” - IAN BUSSIÈRES La Presse, Quebec

“The band finally reaps all that it has sown in its many transformations...the company of the good old days got its money's worth! In short, the king is not dead, far from it, and they still rejoice.” - Réjean Beaucage, Voir.ca

There was an undeniable nostalgic thrill to these songs, but considering the unconventional setup and the band's longstanding aversion to living in the past, they weren't presented as museum pieces...this remained a celebration from a band that has found a way to honour the scope of its legacy without abandoning its avant-garde principles. Crimson has never sounded more complete, or more joyous, on stage than it does now.” - Jordan Zivitz, Montreal Gazette

“The eclectic setlist covered the bands forty plus years, beginning with 1973's 'Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part One' earmarked by one of several Mel Collins' exemplary solos, then jumped a decade later for the fluid 'Neurotica' with Fripp’s hyper-kinetic guitar riffs perched alongside a dizzying high tempo jazz beat. The uniqueness of seeing each of these seasoned musicians working is near indescribable and has to be experienced live, to fully embrace their vision - think of eight master painters working in their own style, but on a common canvas, and you begin to get the idea of things.” - We Heart Music, Minneapolis

“As part of their 17-show 'Radical Action Tour 2017,' King Crimson made a stop at the Greek Theatre for what can only be succinctly described as nearly three hours of absolute musical bliss — subtle and pastoral on one hand, a cacophony of sonic thrusts on the other.” - Shawn Perry Vintage Rock

“While their strong EP of new originals 'Heroes,' (in tribute to David Bowie) has devoted fans pleased and open-eared, it's the rarities from the back catalog that haven’t been played in decades or ever that make this tour's lineup exceptionally strong. Astounding as it was, King Crimson still has the propensity to tackle songs from all over their vast catalog, while incessantly adding new intersections and elements.” - Dylan Muhlberg, Grateful Web

In other news:

The band has recently released “The Elements Of King Crimson 2017 Tour Box.” As with previous releases in the “Elements” series, the full variety of King Crimson's music is presented over 2 CDs! Featuring extracts from rehearsals, new live recordings, elements from studio recordings, full tracks, alternate takes and finished recordings from 1969-2016, many of which make their first appearance on CD.

Every line-up is featured across the double CD set. Of particular interest on the new set is the inclusion on disc 2 of every part of “Larks' Tongues in Aspic” (some studio, some live) from “Part I” to “Level 5” – interspersed with elements taken from the original studio sessions and rehearsals.
Packaged in a DVD-sized fold out digipak style book case with a 24 page booklet including sleeve notes by co-compiler Sid Smith, photos of memorabilia, full info about the 2016 tour and a number of band and individual photos of the current band line-up CLICK HERE

Also, coinciding with the first leg of the tour, King Crimson released a CD EP titled “Heroes - Live In Europe, 2016.” Recorded in Berlin during the band's 2016 European tour., the EP was released on June 2nd 2017 and, along with “The Elements Of King Crimson 2017 Tour Box,” can be ordered via the shops at www.dgmlive.com as well as available through traditional retail outlets. BISHOP BRIGGS ANNOUNCES HEADLINING NORTH AMERICAN TOUR!

Born in London to Scottish parents, raised in Japan and Hong Kong, and writing her own songs since age seven, Bishop Briggs was already immersed in American pop-culture by the time she moved to Los Angeles to attend college.

She persevered in L.A., focused on a clear mission, and was never too proud to play any venue that would have her, often to crowds smaller than would gather in her childhood living room. She honed her artistic vision with the help of producers Mark Jackson and Ian Brendon Scott.

Bishop Briggs’ music now transcends the limitations of singular genres, blending folk, pop and electronic music into a wholly unique sound. Her voice, lived-in and unafraid, has been likened to artists as varied as Janis Joplin, Florence Welch, Aretha Franklin, and Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), but Bishop foregoes restraint and defies categorization, forging a path that is uniquely hers.

With more new material, recent live performances/opening slots for Coldplay, Passion Pit and Kaleo, and a headlining tour, Bishop Briggs is poised to be one of 2017’s biggest breakout artists.

Whether it is the rapture of “River” or defiance of “Wild Horses,” Bishop Briggs’ songs are all inspired by what she calls “the biggest, most toxic and tragic love affair I’ve ever had”: her lifelong commitment to music.
