FULL SNOW MOON FEBRUARY 16 2022

According to the Farmers Almanac, the name of the moon dates back to the 1760s when Captain Jonathan Carver, said after a visit with Native American tribes, the moon was dubbed the “Snow Moon,” because “most snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter.”

Like many other full moons, this one has a variety of names. It’s also known as the Storm or Hunter Moon; the Wolf or Candles Moon; the Bald Eagle Moon or Eagle Moon; Bear Moon or Black Bear Moon. The Dakota called this the Raccoon Moon, and certain Algonquin peoples named it the Groundhog Moon. The Haida named it Goose Moon, the Farmers Almanac reported.

FULL HUNTER'S MOON OCTOBER 13, 2019

The Next Full Moon is the Hunter's Moon, Travel Moon, Dying Grass Moon, Sanguine Moon, Blood Moon.

The next full Moon will be on Sunday, October 13, 2019, appearing "opposite" the Sun (in Earth-based longitude) at 5:17 PM EDT. The Moon will appear full for about three days centered on this time, from Saturday morning to Tuesday morning.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, with the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the harvesters have reaped the fields, hunters can easily see the animals that have come out to glean. The earliest use of the term "Hunter's Moon" cited in the Oxford English Dictionary is from 1710.

FULL HARVEST MOON: SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 14 2019

This month’s full moon reaches peak fullness at 12:32.46 a.m. EDT on Saturday, September 14. Moon sign: Pisces 21° 05'  Look skyward on the night of the 13th for the best view of this Full Harvest Moon

This year, the September full Moon is called the Harvest Moon. Unlike other full Moon names, which are specific to their respective months, the Harvest Moon is tied to an astronomical event: the autumnal equinox. The full Moon that falls nearest to the equinox (September 22 or 23) takes on the name “Harvest Moon,” rather than its traditional name. (This means that a Harvest Moon could occur in either September or October.)

The Harvest Moon provides the most light at the time when it’s needed most—to complete the harvest! Read More

NOVEMBER FULL FROST MOON RISES ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT!

NOVEMBER FULL BEAVER MOON
November’s full Moon was called the Beaver Moon by both the Algonquin tribes and colonial Americans. The Native Americans used the monthly Moons and nature’s signs as a sort of calendar to track the seasons.

Why this name? Back then, this was the month to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.

The November full Moon was also called the Full Frost Moon by other Native American tribes.
