SOLEIL MOON'S LEAD VOCALIST LARRY KING

Larry King

Had a lovely chat today with Larry King.. lead vocalist of hot band Soleil Moon. One of the very first things Larry told me was about meeting his wife for the first time when they were both 10 years old living in North Chicagoland.. Larry told me that they were married at age 22 and he is still crazy about her...We already loved Larry's music and we dig him even more now...

It was interesting to learn that Larry rarely writes love songs. He told me he has great love in his life therefore there is no need to write about broken hearts and drama.. Larry is very concerned with the state of our world and the rights of animals and people. His music is inspiring and uplifting... He wants to leave a mark on this earth with his music. Not a bit shallow is he.

Larry plays with the very finest musicians. He spent more time talking about his band mates than himself..His band are very seasoned session players. They have played with everyone! Watch the video below and you'll hear Larry talking about the many artists his band has played with.

SOLEIL MOON YOU TUBE PAGE

We are thrilled to be working with Larry and Soleil Moon on October 5 at the Millennium Club in Ann Arbor and also appearing at Callahan's in Auburn Hills, October 25. This band is so tight! I love chatting with people that are true to themselves and following their dreams..

Larry is brilliant and his powerful energy caught me a bit off guard...I am not sure what I expected but he was so smart and we talked music genres and the evolution of the Soleil Moon band. We could have talked forever about our favorite players.

Larry's whole team are so quick and on top of things. My pal...Record Promoter Jack Ashton and I were talking alter about the hyper speed of Larry's people..Mike Weber sent me Soleil Moon's music and photos in seconds...Like I said..they are really on it...

KIMMER AT THE 2012 DETROIT MUSIC AWARDS!

COMPLETE LIST OF WINNERS

What an amazing night! I was invited to attend the Detroit Music Awards this year and of course I wanted to be there. Have never been to one of these gigs before so I had no idea what to expect. I got there early and walked right inside. The ladies at the door were so charming and busy!

The Legendary Drummer Muruga and Kimmer

It was especially exciting to see my dear friend Muruga and the Quatro Sisters being honored. Notice the button I am wearing? I took Stanley T. Madhatter with me last night in spirit. A lot of people asked who Stan was and a lot toasted his memory. He would have been so happy to be in this crowd.

Joe Leone and Frank Pettis

We ran into Joe Leone from the School of Rock and one of the very finest Rock photographers of all time Frank Pettis. Frank really helped me with names and band information. Frank knows everyone!

What a vibe in that theater last night...I felt such warmth from my friends and met a bunch of RK readers too. The staff were all happy and there was not one negative ion anywhere.. Got to chat with all the vendors and charities before the show.

Linda Lexy and Allan Goode

My favorite spot for the evening was at the corner of the main bar. It definitely was where all the action was. I ran into Allan Goode and Jack Ashton... Hung out most of the night with these guys. Jack was busy working the room so Allan and I talked to all the glitterati walking by.

Nina Friday Andrea Edwards and Queen Bee (Karen Neal)

To be perfectly honest...I barely saw this show! It was so crazy busy seeing and photographing people that I barely noticed the bands. I did see Amy Gore with Her Valentines, she looked fabulous and her new band is great! Didn't get to see her after their performance.

Tino Gross and Rick Ruiner

Had my back to the stage for a minute and suddenly I hear the booming voice of Dennis "Machinegun" Thompson coming out of the speakers! He was in the trailer for the Grande Ballroom documentary. The audience cheered for him and the MC5.

Lynne Serridge Patti Quatro Nancy Quatro and Nancy Rogers
Speaking of cheering....The Detroit audience completely loved the Quatro Sisters tonight. They were fantastic... I was so excited for them... It meant so much to them to be honored by their hometown. The room was full of love for the girls and it was so touching to witness.

Patti Quatro wrote: "Nancy Rogers played with both PS and Cradle.....awesome inventive drummer. Darline was with PS. Lynne took over bass for Suzi in 1971, an awesome talent, playing keys and bass, and still active with her own band today."

Johnny "Bee" Badanjek and Albert Freud

THE HOWLING DIABLOS WIN BIG

After the Pleasure Seekers/Cradle set the show was over. I had been there from 5:30 until 11pm. Gratefully Muruga and his friends gave me a lift back to my car which was pretty far away. We had a fabulous night and now I plan to sleep! xxooK

Marq Speck of Sweet Crystal

Allan Goode and his best pal Jack Ashton

Such a great crowd and with such cool Detroit attire!

Loved the table goodies... I wanted to peek in the bags...

Introduced myself to Steve Galli. He is a great photographer and I am a huge fan... Google Steve and see how great he is..

DJ STEVE KOSTAN STILL WORKING HIS "TEENAGE" JOB!

Detroit Disc Jockey Steve Kostan

Steve left WCAX and is still living his teenage dream.....here is a piece we did awhile back...

Just got off the phone with Detroit Disc Jockey Steve Kostan ... We talked about his career in Detroit rock n roll, and a bit of bio on how Steve began his "teenage" job in broadcasting. Steve gave me that quote, as it refers to his great fortune to have a job for so many years that he truly loves. Steve is the first DJ I have written about. He is my favorite DJ in Detroit, maybe everywhere for that matter ...

Steve was a DJ for all the major stations in Detroit... WABX, W4 , WABX, WRIF, WCSX

Dave Edwards of The Look and Steve Kostan

Steve started in radio at Western Michigan University's radio station WIDR... Specs Howard Broadcasting School was just getting started so the best way to break into radio was by joining a college station.

Rick Vuk from the EDDIE LEIGHTON Project and Steve from 2010, Rockin on the Riverfront, opening for the ROMANTICS Steve with his Les Paul/Goldtop 1969

In 1977 DJ Ken Calvert hired Steve for just 1 weekend at WABX. After that weekend Ken called him back in and offered Steve an ongoing weekend job. Kostan has been working in Detroit Radio ever since.... Steve really does know everything and everybody in Detroit Rock... We could run on forever about our mutual friends and our favorite bands.

Steve with our pals Jim McCarty and Johnny Bee Badanjek

Here is an interesting bit of history Steve told me this morning: Steve, DJ John O'Leary, DJ Chuck Santoni and actor George C Scott all attended Redford High School in Detroit.

Adds Steve: TED NUGENT also went to Redford High in Detroit, Eddie Leighton went to Redford HS too. Didn't know him then.

Steve with Motorcity Rah Rahs Susie Forkin and Wendy Mastal

Steve has an incredible history, we share a lot of the same friends and a passion for Detroit Rock. One of the stories he did tell me today was about MC5 lead singer Rob Tyner. During the 20th anniversary of their song "Kick Out the Jams" Steve got to play guitar with Rob on vocals... How cool is that? Of course he has thousands of stories like that one. We hope Steve writes a book!

Arthur P, Steve Kostan, Karen Savelly and Ken Calvert on the end.

The first person that can write in today and tell me the names of all these Detroit DJ's is going to win a very cool Ruiners Tee Shirt!! retrokimmer@gmail.com I'll give you one hint ..."BABY!" WE have a winner! Larry I'll bring your t shirt with me to Detroit on the 21st...

Steve

Just recently Steve was made honored by the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for his broadcasting work. How cool is that? Another of our mutual friends, Jack Ashton, called to tell me about that event which led to this me writing this story.

Steve and I are both Race Fans too.... check this video out:

Having been a huge fan of Steve's since he began in Detroit, it was so great to answer the phone today and hear that voice... Thanks so much Steve, for taking the time today and we are definitely going to catch one of your gigs in the D sometime soon... So cool! How lucky is Kimmer?

STEVE KOSTAN: W4 ROCKED FM DETROIT RADIO!

This is so cool... Jack Ashton sent me these photos and gave me a lot of behind the scenes info of Detroit Rocks radio station WWWW FM... W4 was my personal favorite of all the Detroit Radio Stations of the 70's.. Here is a bit of history of W4 FM...

Steve Kostan Jack Ashton

Steve Kostan was a DJ at W4 and just recently he was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame for broadcasting. Steve has been a fixture in Detroit radio forever and has been one of my personal favorites from the beginning..We are very happy for Steve... Kostan and Detroit Rock will be tied together in the history books...

W4 staff and DJ's

Some of the staff from WWWW FM are from left to right... Jim Jefferson MD Jim McKean Karen Savelly Michael Benner and Jerry Lubin who I met at Flintstock last summer with the Madhatter...

What a great shot that captures the Detroit Rock back in the early 70's. Not sure who the guy on the far left is but we have a very young Mark McKuen from the CBS Early Show. Then we have Lynn Woodison, Steve Kostan, Doug Podell and not sure who the guy sitting on the floor is just yet.. I'll ask Steve and Doug they'll know.Doug says...Rick Waldecker was the man sitting down in the W4 Promo shot.

Jack with The Hello People

The Hello People ABC Records Party from left to right....Michael Benner, Jim Jefferson, PD Paul Sullivan, Dick Williams Regional Rep for ABC records, Steve Resnick National Promotion/LA ABC Records Jack Ashton Local (Detroit) Promotion/ABC records, other three guys are from the band Hello People.. Promotion party on a lake near Birmingham, Michigan

The Hello People Band were famous for recording Todd Rundgren's song "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference". Todd also produced the HP band. They wore stage makeup long before KISS.
