MICHIGAN THEATER SCREENING FREE HOLIDAY MOVIES IN DECEMBER!

Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor is screening (FREE) every Sunday this December a holiday classic.

Their annual tradition of showing your all-time holiday classics returns to the Michigan Theater.

The Holiday Classics series offers a unique opportunity to see these movies the way they were intended, in a movie theater with hundreds of other people who can quote just about every line (no shame).

Remember, the community is an essential part of the holiday season, so let's celebrate that by gathering together once a week to laugh, sing, and cry (we're looking at you It's a Wonderful Life) along with our favorite holiday movies.

Holiday Classics Film Series is FREE general admission. Seats are first-come, first-served. All movies will be in the main auditorium (1600 seats), except A Christmas Story on 12/8 will be in the screening room (200 seats).

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In this live-action adaptation of the beloved children's tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).

Based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd, this beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley), who spends most of his time dodging a bully (Zack Ward) and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a "Red Ryder air rifle." Frequently at odds with his cranky dad (Darren McGavin) but comforted by his doting mother (Melinda Dillon), Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.

Don't be a cotton-headed ninny-muggin and miss out on this screening.' Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. Sadly, you can't purchase spaghetti and syrup at concessions (we do have pop).

DISNEY + NEW ENCORE! LAUNCHES THE SOUND OF MUSIC 11-22

Disney+ launched this past Nov. 12 with several original series including the Kristen Bell executive produced series titled Encore! The series brings together former castmates of a high school musical, tasking them with re-creating their original performance in a high school reunion like no other.

Emotions run high as the former students face a school that has since closed its doors, faded friendships, former flames, self-doubt, and killer choreography.

Through it all, these unlikely groups of friends—with the help of Broadway's best—just might pull off a standing-ovation-worthy performance of beloved musicals like "The Sound of Music," "Beauty and the Beast," "Annie" and more and subsequent episodes of "Encore!” will premiere on Fridays, only on Disney+.



This week’s episode, "Sound of Music” will be available Friday, November 22 on Disney+, and features former Flint Central High School (Flint, MI), alumni.

In addition to the former local castmates, the student's Musical Director Adam Wachter and Director Coy Middlebrow who appear in multiple episodes helping the cast produce the play.

RETRO FABULOUS HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREATING!

This photo above looks like we did back in the early 1960s. My Nana made me the clown suit and I had a hobo suit too at different times. Used burnt cork to be a beard on our faces too.  My sister had a really cool costume of Zorro!

We took to the neighborhood streets and the number of kids and dressed up parents were enormous. A huge mob moving through and running up to each house.

Trick-or-treating is a Halloween ritual custom for children and adults in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house-to-house, asking for treats with the phrase "Trick or treat". 

The "treat" is usually some form of candy, although in some cultures money is used instead. The "trick" refers to a threat, usually idle, to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.

Of course, we got to wear costumes to school!! Not anymore..no fun at school allowed!

Trick-or-treating usually occurs on the evening of October 31. Some homeowners signal that they are willing to hand out treats by putting up Halloween decorations outside their doors; others simply leave treats available on their porches for the children to take freely.

ONCE UP ON A TIME  7 SEASONS ON NETFLIX 

The first six seasons are largely set in the fictitious seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, with the character of Emma Swan serving as the lead, while the seventh and final season takes place in a Seattle, Washington neighborhood called Hyperion Heights, with a new main narrative led by Swan's son, Henry Mills. The show borrows elements and characters from the Disney franchise and popular Western literature, folklore, and fairy tales with a twist!

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS ON NETFLIX

This series follows the tragic tale of three orphans -- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire -- who are investigating their parents' mysterious death. The siblings are saddled with an evil guardian named Count Olaf (portrayed by award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris), who will do whatever it takes to get his hands on the Baudelaire's inheritance. MERLIN ON NETFLIX

Merlin is a British fantasy-adventure drama television program created by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Julian Murphy, and Johnny Capps, starring Colin Morgan in the title role. 

It was broadcast on BBC One from 20 September 2008 to 24 December 2012 for a total of 65 episodes. The show is loosely based on the Arthurian legends of the young wizard Merlin and his relationship with King Arthur, but it differs from traditional versions.

SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH ON HULU

We just love Jack Black movies and of course witches and warlocks too! This movie is right up our alley....grabbing our popcorn and raisinettes!!

In 1953, ten-year-old Lewis Barnavelt goes to New Zebedee, Michigan to live with his uncle Jonathan in a creaky old house which has a mysterious ticking heart. Recently orphaned, Lewis only wants to have a normal childhood but soon discovers he's in line for anything but that.

Uncle Jonathan is in fact a mediocre but well-intentioned warlock, while his next-door neighbor and good friend Florence Zimmerman is a far more powerful good witch.

The house that Lewis has just moved into was previously owned by Isaac and Selena Izard. Before dying, this sinister couple had constructed a powerful clock that is hidden somewhere within the walls of the house where it ticks eternally, trying to pull the world into a magical alignment that would have permitted Isaac to bring about the end of the world.

STEVIE WONDER SAXOPHONIST RYAN KILGORE BRINGS MUSIC ED TO DETROIT!

Stevie Wonder’s lead Saxophonist, Ryan Kilgore, is taking time away from the Stevie Wonder Songs in the Key of Life tour to visit band students at local schools in Knoxville.

Hundreds of students in cities such as Chicago, St. Louis, Knoxville, and San Antonio have already enjoyed personal jam sessions with the highly acclaimed musician.

Kilgore, founder of the Kilgore Music Foundation, has a strong passion for youth, and music education. On his school visits, Kilgore performs several songs from the Stevie Wonder tour, and songs from his own solo jazz project Just Walk. The students also get critique sessions with their instruments, and insider industry advice.

Kilgore picked up the saxophone at the age of eight. By the age of 14 he was booking weddings. The fourth generation sax player attended Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA on a full scholarship. As a drum major, he was selected to star in the 2002 blockbuster movie Drumline with actor Nick Cannon.

Kilgore has toured with media mogul Tyler Perry stage plays; He’s also worked with legendary producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
