RETRO FABULOUS HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREATING!

This photo above looks like we did back in the early 1960s. My Nana made me the clown suit and I had a hobo suit too at different times. Used burnt cork to be a beard on our faces too.  My sister had a really cool costume of Zorro!

We took to the neighborhood streets and the number of kids and dressed up parents were enormous. A huge mob moving through and running up to each house.

Trick-or-treating is a Halloween ritual custom for children and adults in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house-to-house, asking for treats with the phrase "Trick or treat".

The "treat" is usually some form of candy, although in some cultures money is used instead. The "trick" refers to a threat, usually idle, to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.

Of course, we got to wear costumes to school!! Not anymore..no fun at school allowed!

Trick-or-treating usually occurs on the evening of October 31. Some homeowners signal that they are willing to hand out treats by putting up Halloween decorations outside their doors; others simply leave treats available on their porches for the children to take freely.

Monkees costumes were everywhere back then!

THE CROWN: IMAGINING A ROYAL WORLD EXHIBIT!

So wish I could visit this exhibit!! The Paley Center for Media is giving Beverly Hills an inside look at the  style of the British royal family in a new exhibition.

“The Crown: Imagining a Royal World" opened May 12, featuring artifacts from Netflix’s The Crown season two. On display will be costumes, on-set photos, videos and other ephemera from the award-winning series about Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy).

The free multimedia exhibition, running through July 29, will put the British monarchy in context of modern American politics during the Kennedy era.

Paley Center Preview

Along with Foy's acting, the costumes are the crown jewel of the show — they won the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding period/fantasy costumes in 2017 and earned costume designer Jane Petrie a Costume Designers Guild Award.

“Designing the costumes for The Crown has been an incredible privilege, and being able to present some of my favorite designs at The Paley Center for Media is just fantastic,” said Jane Petrie, the show's costume designer.

“Season Two is all about the Windsor’s struggle to modernize at a time of great global change. From Princess Margaret’s exciting new love interest, to the Kennedy’s swooping into Buckingham Palace, outshining the Queen and her consort, the clash between old and the new, America and Britain, takes center stage and very much inspired the costumes. It’s a fascinating moment of our shared history and was an absolute pleasure to design. I just hope visitors will appreciate the exhibit as much as we enjoyed telling this story.”

Costume Guidelines (Please see the website for photos and tips)

Costume must be accurate so Guinness doesn’t disqualify us. Please review the costume guidelines below. Start shopping for your costume NOW, because last time local thrift stores ran out of dark blue duds, and local fabric stores ran out of polka-dots. It will be very hard to find costume elements the week or two before the event. (The Yankee Air Museum is selling bandannas and socks online)

Follow these costume guidelines from Guinness tomato sure you are counted as a Rosie!

COSTUME TIPS:

Stores will run out as the event approaches, so shop early! We can’t stress this enough: With as many as 2,000 women out there shopping for polka dots, please start shopping for your costume elements now.

Bandanna: The correct polka-dot fabric is available from Joann Fabrics in-store and online; the fabric’s name is “Large Dots on Lipstick” and the fabric is from the “Keepsake Calico Collection.” Purchase 1 yard per bandanna. You can simply cut the fabric into a square or a strip, it does not need to be sewn. The Yankee Air Museum sells Guinness-approved bandannas online and also in their Gift Shop. There is no admission fee to visit the Gift Shop.

Red Socks: Plain red soccer or baseball socks are available at stores like Dunhams and MC Sports. The Yankee Air Museum sells Guinness-approved red socks online here and also in their Gift Shop.

Dark Blue Work Outfit: Tractor Supply and Menard’s have dark blue work coveralls with sleeves. They are also available from online sources. Salvation Army and other large thrift stores are a great source for a dark blue collared long-sleeved shirt and dark blue pants, be sure to check the men’s department. Land’s End online has plain dark blue shirts and pants for women and girls.

Remember, your costume must follow these Guinness guidelines to be counted as a Rosie! READ MORE HERE
