BACKSTREET BOYS DNA WORLD TOUR COMING TO DETROIT AND MORE DATES!

Following the success of last summer’s sold-out North American tour, the Backstreet Boys are excited to announce a second North American tour, kicking off July 10th in New York.

Produced by Live Nation, the extensive 45-date, the three-month trek will see the group performing their impressive catalog of award-winning hits in arenas and amphitheaters all over the U.S. and Canada before an incredible finale at the famous Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA.

Tickets to these shows are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift, going on sale to the general public beginning this Friday February 14th at LiveNation.com.

The forthcoming run is the second North American leg on their tour, which has become one of the group’s biggest arena tours in 18 years, thanks to the global success of their #1 and GRAMMY-nominated new album “DNA.”

The DNA World Tour has already visited five continents and the group’s fans across the globe have made this outing extremely special.

“We give our fans 100%, night after night, putting on the best Backstreet Boys show we can. We play our hits, we dance our asses off and we do it because we love our fans,” says AJ McLean. “We have the best fans in the world. BOBBY GENTRY AND ODE TO BILLIE JOE

"Ode to Billie Joe" is a 1967 country/pop song written and recorded by Bobbie Gentry, a singer-songwriter from Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

The single, released in late July, was a number-one hit in the United States, and became a big international seller.

The song is ranked #412 on Rolling Stone's list of "the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

The recording of "Ode to Billie Joe" generated eight Grammy nominations, resulting in three wins for Gentry and one win for arranger Jimmie Haskell.

After the giant success for Billie Joe...she seemed to drop off the earth...

The Story Behind Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode To Billie Joe”

When asked about the meaning behind Ode to Billie Joe, Bobbie said...

'Those questions are of secondary importance in my mind. The story of Billie Joe has two more interesting underlying themes. First, the illustration of a group of people's reactions to the life and death of Billie Joe, and its subsequent effect on their lives, is made. Second, the obvious gap between the girl and her mother is shown, when both women experience a common loss (first, Billie Joe and, later, Papa), and yet Mama and the girl are unable to recognize their mutual loss or share their grief.'

“Everybody has a different guess about what was thrown off the bridge—flowers, a ring, even a baby. Anyone who hears the song can think what they want, but the real message of the song, if there must be a message, revolves around the nonchalant way the family talks about the suicide. They sit there eating their peas and apple pie and talking, without even realizing that Billie Joe’s girlfriend is sitting at the table, a member of the family.”

In its first week of release, “Ode” sold 750,000 copies, knocking “All You Need Is Love” out of the top spot on the Billboard chart. It stayed there for four weeks. The song won Gentry three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist (she was the first Country artist to ever win in this category). The song went on to sell over 3 million copies.

Then around 1975, after contributing music to a movie based on “Ode,” she simply checked out. She has not been heard from in over 35 years. All requests for interviews, recordings and performances have been denied. She married 3 times, first to Hotel Magnate Bill Harrah, then to singer Joe Stafford and currently is married again but I can't find his name. She has one son Tyler with Joe Stafford.

**NEW** EARLY BEATLES DOCUMENTARY TO BE DIRECTED BY RON HOWARD

 

The Early Beatles is an amazing story..we can't wait to see this film..what would be really great is to know the true story of the 5 guys who were the Beatles. Pete Best included with the Fab Four.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard is to direct a documentary about the early years of the Beatles. The film, which is being made in co-operation with Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono, will focus on 1961 to 1966. It will follow the Fab Four's journey from Liverpool's Cavern Club to their last public concert in San Francisco. Howard called it an "astounding story" of "four young men who stormed the world in 1964".

Ron Howard will do a great job as the director and hopefully we will see new images and film clips. 

THE TURTLES!

One of my very favorite bands of retro legend were the TURTLES aka Flo & Eddie..Damn near very song they released charted...fabulous pop singers and song writers too... CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE

The Turtles were led by vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman (Fo&Eddie) The band became notable for several Top 40 hits beginning with their cover version of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" in 1965. But their most popular hit was "Happy Together". That song is still cool. Even heavy rocker types loved that tune...The lyric was simple and pop but the vibe is still just so fine.....

The band, originally a surf-rock group called the Crossfires, was formed in 1965 in Westchester, California, by Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. With the help of DJ and club owner Reb Foster, the Crossfires signed to the newly formed White Whale Records and adhering to the prevailing musical trend, re-branded themselves as a folk rock group under the name the Tyrtles, the intentional misspelling inspired by the Byrds and the Beatles. However, the trendy spelling did not survive long.

JOHN (JAY AND THE AMERICANS) TRAYNOR DIED AT 69

Jay and the Americans Singer Jay Traynor Dead at 69

Jay Traynor, the singer best known for his stint as the original lead vocalist in Jay and the Americans, has passed away at the age of 69.

Jay Traynor, the original lead singer for Jay and the Americans, died Thursday in a Tampa, Florida, hospital after a long battle with liver cancer. He was 69.  His death was confirmed to ABC News Radio by Traynor's good friend and colleague Jay Siegel of The Tokens, who is acting as a family spokesperson.

Traynor, who was originally a member of the group The Mystics, formed Jay and the Americans in the late 1950s.  Their first big hit, "She Cried," reached #5 in 1962, but Traynor left the group when additional hits failed to materialize.  He subsequently started a solo career, and also worked at an upstate New York TV station, and behind-the-scenes in the music industry. For the past eight years, he had been singing with The Tokens, best known for their hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
