The second attempt at a partial implosion of the Pontiac Silverdome was a success just after 4 p.m. on Monday, more than a day after the first attempt was a failure. According to Adamo, the demolition company tasked with the implosion, eight charges disconnected -- preventing the fall of the Silverdome on Sunday morning. "We had a lot of difficulty getting people out of here the other night...we don't know if someone accidentally pulled the wire off. We don't know, we're still researching that," said Adamo Executive Vice President Rick Cuppetilli. Monday's explosion seemed to be much larger, and sent the upper level of the Silverdome crumbling to the ground.

FINALLY!! THE SILVERDOME TO BEGIN DEMOLITION DEC 3 !!
Finally! The demolition of the old Silverdome is almost here! Read this great article from Crain's about it.
The decaying Pontiac Silverdome, former home of the Detroit Lions and pain in the neck building where I used to do shows, will also be destroyed by a controlled explosion — in part.
But whether a structure is demolished over the course of weeks or months, or in just a matter of seconds or minutes, depends on a variety of factors.
Materials:
- Pounds of dynamite to be used: 300.
- Structural steel to be recycled: 1,700 tons.
- Rebar to be recycled: 1,800 tons.

THE DEMOLITION OF THE BUDD WHEEL PLANT!
Photo by Chad Livengood/Crain's Detroit Business
Part of the former Budd Wheel complex in Detroit, which is very close to Chrysler’s Mack Avenue and Jefferson North plants, is slated to be demolished this morning (June 24). The former owner of Liberty Motors was a proud naturalized American and he built a copy of the Independence Hall out front. That was demolished the first of this year.
Today they are demolishing the 3 story old part which still has Connor Creek running underneath the building. Rumor has it that Chrysler will be building a plant on this site.

DETROIT'S FORMER PARK AVENUE HOTEL TO BE IMPLODED JULY 11
Park Avenue hotel left and Hotel Eddystone on right in Detroit
Billy Wilson and I along with Michael Kuentz are going to be there to see this. I am excited about the New Olympia Arena though it is sad that these historic buildings have been abandoned for decades.
DETROIT (WXYZ) - The former Park Avenue hotel in Detroit is set to be imploded to make room for the new Red Wings hockey arena, according to Ilitch Holdings.
The controlled demolition is scheduled for 8 a.m. on July 11. The Hotel Park Avenue has been scheduled for demolition, but the Hotel Eddystone next door has been scheduled for renovation.
Olympia Development said they will provide additional street and window cleaning resources on July 11 for those impacted in the area.
Doug Kuiper of Ilitch Holidings issued the following statement Thursday: "The implosion methodology reduces the time and impact of the Harbor Lights removal from a three-month, second shift effort to a single morning. It moderates community impact while allowing the project to continue on its timeline for a September 2017 opening.
All work will follow best practices and city requirements, and we will work closely with residents, businesses and other organizations to ensure a safe demolition with minimal impact on the community. Read Full Story on WXYZ
