METRONOMY RELEASE AMAZON ORIGINAL “UP, HIGHER"

January 31, 2020: Today, UK indie-electronic band Metronomy have released an Amazon Original track “Up, Higher.” The song, which was originally slated for their critically acclaimed 2019 album Metronomy Forever, is now available to stream and purchase exclusively on Amazon Music.

Listen to “Up, Higher” only on Amazon Music:

“‘Up, Higher’ was one of the first tracks written for Metronomy Forever, then it was culled from the final selection! Which seems strange now as it’s such a jam,” says the band’s founder Joseph Mount. “It was a track we played live on our last US tour, so it’s nice to have it out there in the world now.”

Born out of the mind of Joseph Mount, Metronomy has evolved from an early 2000s teenage bedroom project into a critically-acclaimed indie electronic staple. The band’s breakout 2008 album Nights Out has been called the “soundtrack to a generation of freshers,” by NME who said it “was proof that indie, pop, and electronic music could exist outside the clatterings of nu-rave.”

Last year they released their sixth studio album Metronomy Forever to the lauding of many, including Pitchfork who said “With Mount content to simply get in his groove, the casual approach gives rise to some of Metronomy’s best songs in years” and Paste Magazine, who said, “20 years into their career, Metronomy are as strong as ever.”

Amazon Music listeners can find the track on the playlist, "Control Alt Repeat" the ultimate destination for all the best new global alternative. Customers can also simply ask, “Alexa play the Amazon Original by Metronomy” in the Amazon app for iOS and Android and on Alexa-enabled devices.

In addition to Metronomy, Amazon Music listeners can access hundreds of Amazon Originals featuring both emerging and established artists across numerous genres, available to stream and purchase only on Amazon Music.

BROOKLYN INDIE POP BAND GAMBLERS: NEW RELEASE CORINTHIAN ORDER

Today Brooklyn-based indie pop band Gamblers released the title track from their upcoming EP Corinthian Order (out September 7th). The band draws on the eclectic musical backgrounds of its members to put a unique spin on a rock and roll fundamentals.

Frontman Michael McManus is an accomplished hip-hop producer who has worked extensively with Heems (Das Racist, Swet Shop Boys) and has production credits on Viceland’s Gaycation and Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. The line up is rounded out by Gary O'Keefe (lead guitar, backing vocals, production), Boris Palacios (guitar, keyboard, production), and Evan O'Donovan (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals).

“You could make an argument that this track perfectly represents my hip hop production influence on Gamblers,” McManus says of “Corinthian Order.” “I had sampled a section of ‘Jesus, Etc.’ from Wilco, and I had the beat on my computer for a long time. Over time, I would find myself humming along to it, sort of using a similar melody as the Wilco song, but making up my own lyrics about what I was going through. Eventually I got rid of the Wilco sample, and Gary and I recreated the parts on guitar, bass, and keyboard. So ‘Corinthian Order’ isn't an exact interpolation of ‘Jesus, Etc.’ by any means, but overall there is definitely a hip hop influence on the building of this track.”

Tracklisting:
1. Corinthian Order
2. We’re Bound to Be Together
3. Heavenly Mouse Routine
4. There Was A Window
5. The Selfish Bell

The band’s striking animated video for “We’re Bound to Be Together” was featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick upon its release. McManus met the video’s director Tyler Walker at the Peter McManus Cafe in Manhattan, which Michael’s family has owned and operated since 1936. “I was actually waiting on their table and I overheard them talking about shooting music videos. I introduced myself and we set up a meeting and just took it from there, they’re really talented.”

“For ‘We’re Bound to Be Together’ I wanted to use Beach Boys level pop cliches to talk about something really dark,” McManus explains. “Most people would take the lyrics at face value, and figure this is just another radio friendly pop track about falling in love. The song is more of a wolf in sheep's clothing — it’s a representation of an addict's mind chasing a high.” Combining catchy melodies with darker lyrical content that addresses themes like alienation and addiction, the band’s approach rewards close bedroom-headphone listening.

The Corinthian Order EP is out September 7th. Preorder HERE.

**NEW** JASON BERK: COMING HOME

Jason sent me a lovely email and I really like his music...take a look and listen :)

From Jason: My new album is called Coming Home and is, well, pretty ‘retro'! Clear influences of The Beatles, Marshall Crenshaw, Elvis Costello, The Mamas & The Papas, Sly & The Family Stone, and Joe Jackson, plus the overall Laurel Canyon sound. This is my second release; my first, Real Love, was hailed by fans and critics, including San Francisco DJs Rosalie Howarth (KFOG) and Steven Seaweed (107.7 The Bone), plus Maui-based host of the syndicated “The Time Machine” radio show, Michael McCartney.

Other fans include “Ghostbusters” performer Ray Parker Jr., former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber (as well as his wife Hope, daughter of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and ‘Brady Bunch’ creator Sherwood Schwartz), 60’s singer-songwriter Evie Sands, Keith Slettedahl of The 88, and members of legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s backing band.
