WHO MURDERED SOUL SINGER JAMES BROWN?

When James Brown died on Christmas Day 2006 at age 73, officials at Atlanta's Emory University Hospital Midtown listed his cause of death as congestive heart failure related to pneumonia. More than a decade later, however, at least a dozen people — including Dr. Marvin Crawford, the physician who signed Brown's death certificate — have come forward to express their doubts in that pronouncement.

"He changed too fast," Crawford, who didn't believe the three-time Grammy winner died of natural causes, revealed in an interview with CNN, also noting that he'd recommended an autopsy but Brown's daughter Yamma declined. "He was a patient I would never have predicted would have coded. ... But he died that night, and I did raise that question: What went wrong in that room?"

Brown received a visit from a 'male stranger' prior to his sudden death

For his part, Dr. Crawford recalls Brown being admitted to the hospital on December 23 with “symptoms of early congestive heart failure and signs of a mild heart attack.” Brown's urine also allegedly tested positive for cocaine, and after giving him oxygen, IV diuretics and ACE inhibitors, Crawford said the funk singer "improved fast" and "probably could have walked out of the hospital if he wanted."

The physician says when he left the hospital on December 24 to spend Christmas Eve with his family, all seemed well — but late that night, he received a phone call from the hospital that Brown's heart had stopped. By the time he had returned to work, Brown was dead. READ MORE

BTK KILLER'S DAUGHTER RELEASES HER NEW BOOK JAN 29

The BTK Killer with his daughter

Poor Kerri Rawson has spent a horrible 14 years trying to move on after that shocking morning in February 2005 when an FBI agent showed up at her front door with devastating news. Her father Dennis Rader, was the Bind Torture Kill (BTK), a serial killer.  Her life would never be the same.

Now, Rawson, 40, has written a book — A Serial Killer’s Daughter — that chronicles how her horror and anger were complicated by the love she’d felt for her father, as well as the terrible toll his double-life has taken on her family. (Rawson’s book comes out Jan. 29.)

In 2005, Kerri Rawson heard a knock on the door of her apartment. When she opened it, an FBI agent informed her that her father had been arrested for murdering ten people, including two children.

It was then that she learned her father was the notorious serial killer known as BTK, a name he’d given himself that described the horrific way he committed his crimes: bind, torture, kill. As news of his capture spread, Wichita celebrated the end of a thirty-one-year nightmare.

For Kerri Rawson, another was just beginning. She was plunged into a black hole of horror and disbelief. The same man who had been a loving father, a devoted husband, church president, Boy Scout leader and a public servant had been using their family as a cover for his heinous crimes since before she was born. Everything she had believed about her life had been a lie.

Written with candor and extraordinary courage, A Serial Killer’s Daughter is an unflinching exploration of life with one of America’s most infamous killers and an astonishing tale of personal and spiritual transformation.

For all who suffer from unhealed wounds or the crippling effects of violence, betrayal, and anger, Kerri Rawson’s story offers the hope of reclaiming sanity in the midst of the madness, rebuilding a life in the shadow of death, and learning to forgive the unforgivable.

“No easy answers here. No platitudes. Only raw honesty, written with the gracious authority of one who has glimpsed hell. Kerri Rawson shares her earned wisdom and hope that has been bought with tears and nightmares. This book is a gritty must-read in the library of hope.”

ELDERLY MOB BOSS JAMES WHITEY BULGER MURDERED INSIDE NEW PRISON!

JAMES WHITEY BULGER
Born: September 3, 1929, Boston, MA
Died: October 30, 2018

Gangsters Inc.
By David Amoruso

What goes around, comes around. Infamous Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger was murdered inside a federal prison in West Virginia on Tuesday. He was serving a life sentence for the many crimes he committed in his long and notorious career, but apparently, someone felt he deserved to die right then and there.

89-year-old Bulger was recently transferred to the maximum-security Hazelton prison in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. According to multiple accounts, the crime boss’ health was deteriorating.

The Bureau of Prisons issued a statement, saying that for “safety, security and privacy reasons, we can not disclose specifics regarding inmate movement or transfers; nor can we disclose an inmate’s health information.”

James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger Jr. was an Irish-American former organized crime boss of the Winter Hill Gang in Boston, Massachusetts. Federal prosecutors indicted Bulger for nineteen murders based on grand jury testimony from Kevin Weeks and other former associates.

Born: September 3, 1929, Boston, MA
Died: October 30, 2018

“Freddy hated guys who abused women. Whitey was a rat who killed women. It’s probably that simple,” McDonough said.

MURDERS IN NAUVOO

Brigham Young's Home in Nauvoo

Phineas Wilcox is stabbed to death by fellow Mormons in Nauvoo, Illinois, because he was believed to be a Christian spy. The murder of Wilcox reflected the serious and often violent conflict between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the surrounding communities.

Joseph Smith, who founded the Mormon Church in 1830, had been living with his followers in Missouri, where they had various conflicts with locals, including an armed skirmish with the state militia. In 1838, Governor Lilburn Boggs signed a military order directing that the Mormons be expelled or exterminated: “The Mormons must be treated as enemies and must be exterminated or driven from the state, if necessary, for the public good.”

Another Christian Killed by Mormons?

Smith and the Mormons fled across the Mississippi to Nauvoo, Illinois, which quickly became the second most populous town in the state. But there were conflicts and tensions in Nauvoo as well. When a local newspaper printed editorials claiming that the religious leader was a fraud, Smith sent a group of followers to destroy the newspaper office. He was then arrested and sent to jail, where a lynch mob tracked him down and killed him.

Brigham Young, who quickly took command of the church and its followers, tried to stifle any dissent and banish his rivals. The killing of Phineas Wilcox was part of his consolidation of power.

Tensions with other communities continued to escalate, and, a year later, over 2,000 armed anti-Mormons marched on Nauvoo. Young decided that it no longer was wise to stay in the area. He led his flock west and settled in the Salt Lake Valley, where he and his followers would become instrumental in founding the state of Utah.

EARP BROTHER: BAXTER WARREN EARP KILLED IN ARIZONA

Warren Earp
Photo: PW Butler Collection

Warren Earp: Full name Baxter Warren Earp, Wyatt's youngest brother. Warren was born on March 9, 1855 in Pella, Iowa. Due to his age, Warren didn't participate in most of his older brother's activities. He was still living at home with his parents when the shooting in Tombstone happened. He had been to Tombstone previously in 1880 and 1881 for visits, hence some of the stories about Wyatt in Tombstone include Warren.

Warren Earp, the youngest of the Earps, was murdered in an Arizona saloon.

Nicholas and Virginia Earp raised a family of five sons and four daughters on a series of farms in Illinois and Iowa. Three of the Earps’ sons grew up to win lasting infamy. On October 26, 1881, Wyatt, Virgil, and Morgan Earp fought a brief shoot-out with the Clantons and McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona. The Earp brothers, along with their friend Doc Holliday, managed to kill all three of their opponents.

The gun battle—which was named after a nearby livery stable called the O.K. Corral—later became a favorite topic of sensationalistic dime novel writers and moviemakers. Ever since, Wyatt, Virgil, and Morgan have been icons of the Old West.

The Earps with Doc Holliday

The youngest Earp brother, however, did not share in the fame of his older brothers. Warren Earp was probably in Tombstone on the day of the famous gunfight, but for reasons that remain unclear, Warren did not join in the gunfight (the eldest Earp brother, James, did not participate either). Warren, however, was involved in the bloody series of revenge killings that followed the shoot-out.

Within six months of the first gunfight, Morgan Earp was assassinated and Virgil Earp was badly wounded. Wyatt presumed the Clantons and McLaurys were behind the attacks. Determined to strike back, Wyatt turned for help to his little brother, Warren.

Together with Doc Holliday, the two brothers took their vengeance, killing two men suspected of having been behind Morgan’s murderer. In danger now of being arrested for murder, the three men fled to Colorado.

BETTY BRODERICK: TELLING ON MYSELF

 Betty Broderick
Guest Post by Author Kathleen Hewtson

I first heard of Betty Broderick in a People Magazine article in October 1991, written at the time of her first trial that resulted in a hung jury.

I was around twenty-six at the time – more or less Linda Broderick’s age – and almost a decade into a really bad marriage, and I had always been brought up with, and believed in, the concept of a no-fault divorce. For most of my childhood, I would lie in bed wishing that my own parents would get divorced and bring to an end my having to listen interminably to their vicious and repetitious arguments. “Please, Daddy, leave,” I would tell my dad. “You’ve got to get out of here, for everybody’s sake!”

For me, marriage was a contract that held for as long as it worked, and then, when it stopped working, you went off and did something else. When you bought a house, you didn’t buy it for life; you might choose to live in it forever, but you might equally find a better one you would want to live in. No-fault meant no-fault and any idea to the contrary threatened me personally – I, too, wanted a divorce one day, and I didn’t want to spend days in court picking over my and my husband’s misbehavior. Most people aren’t evil, we are just people, and we get things wrong, and sometimes we change what we want from life, so if your marriage doesn’t work anymore, close it down with the least fuss from everyone.

So why was this "fat hag" so intent on hassling Dan Broderick, who simply didn’t want to live with her anymore, and did want to live with somebody else, somebody fun-loving and cheerful like me?

And then there was the verdict of Betty’s first trial, a hung jury. What? A hung jury? How could what Betty did be anything other than premeditated? She bought a gun. She took shooting lessons. She stole the keys to Dan and Linda’s house weeks before the shooting. She took a forty-minute drive over to their house, broke in, climbed the stairs and let rip. Then, in a final, calculated act of premeditation, she pulled the telephone from its socket to prevent Dan phoning for the help that might have saved his life.

From reactions to the Betty Broderick trials and the off-the-chart ratings for Oprah Winfrey’s interviews with her, I learned something else: there must be a lot of people out there just as angry as Betty. What were they on about? Marriage isn’t a master-slave relationship; it isn’t, “Come, Kunta, I’ve bought you and I am taking you home now.”

Except for the verdict of the 2010 Parole Board which gave Betty the max – parole denied and no further hearing for fifteen years – that was it for me with Betty until twenty years later, when I married my second husband who had an ex-wife who was just like Betty. She was even issuing us with death threats on a monthly basis and I had a restraining order, based on those death threats, even though she was (hopefully still) 5,000 miles away.

I thought my husband might be interested in ‘Until the Twelfth of Never.’ Not only is it one of the best true crime books I had ever read, on a subject that I still felt passionately about, but my husband also had some psychological trauma to work through. He needed to be put back together, and I thought reading ‘Until the Twelfth of Never’ might help. At least he wasn’t dead … yet.

So I decided to read him ‘Until the Twelfth of Never’ (UTON) before we went to sleep, and reliably, about every half-page, he would exclaim, “Wow, that is just like …” and later, “There must be a secret handbook these people are all working from.”

In getting hold of a copy of UTON, I discovered that it was out of print and had been for many years. That is also an interesting story. Janet Regan was the Commissioning Editor who persuaded an LA Times journalist, Bella Stumbo, to write UTON. Then, Janet Regan was forced to leave the book’s original publisher because of a problem over O.J. Simpson’s ‘If I Did It’ that she had also commissioned. After she left, the publisher pulled all Janet Regan’s books, including UTON.

Bella Stumbo had died ten years before I started making my investigations into the copyright situation with her book, but I did manage to track down her sister, who told me that the rights were now owned by her own daughter (Bella’s niece). She put us into contact with her daughter who said she would be happy to have us republish the book. The publisher had not issued any royalties for nearly a decade, since it was withdrawn from publication. We also contacted the publisher to make sure that all rights had reverted to Bella Stumbo’s niece.

Before we published UTON ourselves, we decided we wanted to add some new material to make it more current, so we interviewed a couple of Dan Broderick’s lawyer friends and asked a top graphologist to analyze Betty’s handwriting because my husband knew the graphologist well and had some great stories about his work and its prescience, not least the one about the girl who had shown him her boyfriend’s handwriting. “Get away from him now,” the graphologist said. “Whoever he is, never see him again.” The girl didn’t take his advice, and a month later was stabbed to death by her boyfriend after twenty-seven blows from his knife.

As always with the Broderick case, questions still hung in the air: “Who was really abusing whom? Was Dan systematically abusing Betty in his legalistic way? Was Betty constantly taunting Dan in drip-drip-drip provocations? And why was $16,000 a month in alimony and an Oceanside property not enough for Betty?” The graphologist answered these questions one way, but still I wasn’t sure, so I decided to contact Betty to see if she had a book of her own. She did.

We communicated by letter for a while, then I went to see her in the California Institution for Women in Chino-Corona. During our first meeting, I not only got to meet Betty but also Joe Pesci who was there visiting his ex-wife, Claudia Haro, who had taken out a contract on her next husband, a movie stuntman who managed to avoid at least some of the bullets being fired in his direction, and lived. Betty also tried to introduce me to Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten of the Manson Family. Clearly there was a whole Killer Royalty thing going on there, and Betty had made it into the Royal Mob. I had interviewed Susan Atkins of the Manson Family at CIW several years earlier, and she was definitely treated like royalty in there; in fact, that is rather an under-statement – more like an icon.

Betty was charming during that first meeting and interested in having us publish her book. The prison was loud and smelly. Fellow inmates kept coming up to her to thank her for helping them learn English. I felt really sorry for her. She was very ladylike and has mesmerizingly beautiful eyes.

From that meeting, Betty continued to show interest in our publishing her book, which was on handwritten sheets of paper, but somewhat elusive about actually signing a contract. We talked by phone. We communicated by letter. Time passed.

I even considered writing a book about Betty myself – after all, I had met her and I had read every book about the case, and I knew San Diego well. Hell, I had even been bundled aggressively out of the presence of Sherriff Billy Gore there for asking impertinent questions about his handling of the Rebecca Zahau murder case on Coronado Island, off San Diego. However, at this point I had just started writing what was to become a five-volume series on Empress Alexandra Romanov of Russia, and already had my time accounted for several years into the future. Ironically, it turns out that Empress Alexandra was a lot like Betty.

As it happens, a close friend of mine is Anne Bremner, one of America’s top criminal lawyers and legal analysts – the one who got Amanda Knox out of prison in Italy. We had worked together on the Rebecca Zahau case – would she be interested in representing Betty in getting her a new parole hearing? Anne said she would. So, I went to see Betty again, this time accompanied by Anne Bremner. The meeting went well and Anne gained a good impression of Betty, although we were both exhausted when we came out. Betty has a lot of energy! I handed Betty our publishing contract, which she signed. Anne said she would send Betty a client agreement to enable her to represent her in parole proceedings, which Betty never did sign.

I also got to meet up with Betty’s trial lawyer, Jack Earley, with whom we had dinner twice, once at his house with his wife and friends. He’s a pretty laid back guy and seemed more amused by Betty than anything else, although he did warn me that Betty took some handling. I assured him that I had read UTON and I knew that. He gave me a kind of ‘If you say so’ look.

Betty sent us her handwritten manuscript with a mass of photos and we proceeded to edit what was to become ‘Betty Broderick: Telling on myself,’ with Betty’s choice of title. She wanted us to use one photo as the cover; we insisted on using another. There were about twelve areas of the book where we felt that Betty could have been more forthcoming and which would have made the book more interesting to readers, but Betty ignored our repeated requests over a six-month period. We also sent her a copy of her daughter, Kim’s, book which has appeared under a couple different titles (‘Betty Broderick, My Mum’ and ‘Betty Broderick, the Mother, the Murderer’), because we thought there were many allegations Kim had made that she should be addressing. Nothing.

We had promised to publish the book by April 2014, so I went to see Betty with Anne Bremner again in early January of that year to give her our edited version of her book, and for Anne to discuss with her once again the possibility of representing her. That was an awkward meeting. Betty really, really doesn’t like lawyers, even Anne, who is absolutely sweet. Anne spent most of the meeting sitting there stunned, and we both came out utterly exhausted. In fact, Anne remained in a state of shellshock the entire day. It was as well that we were staying at the Mission Inn Hotel in Riverside, the hotel that put the hotel in The Eagles’ ‘Hotel California’ (and, yes, it has what it claims to be the oldest dated church bell in the world, and seven Tiffany originals made by Louis Comfort Tiffany personally …).

We waited for Betty’s recommendations for corrections, amendments and additions to our editing of her book, but they never came. Anne had seen Betty a day after she had received the full edit, and Betty told her she liked what she had read so far. Two and a half months later, a day before the agreed latest publishing date, we put ‘Betty Broderick: Telling on myself’ up on Amazon, sending her the first paperback copy.

I haven’t had a lot of dealings with Betty since then. I know from people who correspond with Betty that she claims never to have read ‘Betty Broderick: Telling on myself;’ that she claims she never signed a contract with us; and that she claims she only sent us an outline, from which we worked up an entire book, but that’s just Betty, or as Oprah Winfrey said during an interview with her, “Betty, Betty, Betty!”

FORGOTTEN: THE MURDER AT THE FORD ROUGE PLANT

Set in the 1930s, Forgotten tells the story of Lewis Bradford, a minister and radio host with a vision of "labor peace" who goes to work at the yet-to-be organized Ford Motor Company. Author/composer Steve Jones uncovers the mystery surrounding Bradford's death through a sequence of jazz-based songs and the narrative of Bradford's widow, Ella. Dedicated to the thousands of workers who overcame racial divisions, red-baiting, and company thugs to build a union, Forgotten bursts onto the stage in a passionate display of musical virtuosity and good old-fashioned storytelling.

"We had known about Lewis Bradford's murder for years. He was married to Ella Bradford, my grandfather's cousin. Like my grandfather, Lewis was a Methodist minister strongly influenced by Muriel Lester, a British socialist and pacifist and founder of the Fellowship of Reconciliation." READ FULL STORY HERE

DAN BRODERICK DISINHERITED DAUGHTER

Daniel Broderick Kim Broderick

Educational Resources

As you can read in the information below...Betty wasn't the only punitive person involved in this case.. Betty claimed that Dan Broderick was "gaslighting" her and punishing her for trivial matters in order to remain "in control". Seems a bit petty for this very wealthy man to no longer care for his youngest child in such a public punishment as disinheriting her.

                            Lee Broderick bottom left  Daughter

Perhaps Betty was being antagonized in the manner in which she described in her court testimony.  Doesn't clear her for murder...but Dan Broderick may have pushed her over the edge with his control tactics...in my opinion only...

Betty's children suffered more than anyone involved. They were torn between defending their only surviving parent and turning on the mother who murdered their father. Her eldest two, Kim and Dan, made every attempt to do what was morally right and they refused to support Betty emotionally at all.

                                            Rhett Broderick Son

Daniel Broderick, 44, and his second wife, Linda Kolkena Broderick, 28, were found dead in the master bedroom of their Hillcrest home Nov. 5. That same day, Elisabeth Broderick, Daniel's first wife, was booked on suspicion of murder. Elisabeth, 42, is scheduled to be arraigned today.

Dan Broderick Jr and his wife.

The original will, written after Daniel Broderick had filed for divorce from Elisabeth, was witnessed by Linda Kolkena. In it, he provided for Elisabeth to collect her interest in their community property "without probate administration or court order." The rest of his belongings, however, were to be divided among all of his and Elisabeth's children.

)

But two years later, after the divorce was official, he amended his will to exclude Lee Broderick, who now lives in Pacific Beach. The will contains no explanation for the change. The amendment, which listed Broderick as "unmarried," also omitted all reference to Elisabeth.

Slain Lawyer Amended Will to Leave Out 1 Daughter November 15, 1989

According to a search warrant affidavit filed by police, Elisabeth Broderick went to Lee's apartment the morning that Daniel and Linda were killed. She gave Lee her purse, in which police later found a.38-caliber revolver police believe was used in the shootings.

The will dictates that the Broderick estate is divided equally among the three other children, who will receive half of the principal of their trusts at age 25 and the remaining half at age 30. Larry Broderick, Daniel's brother, is the executor of the estate.

THE DEATH OF MOBSTER JOHNNY STOMPANATO

John "Johnny" Stompanato, also known as "Handsome Harry", "Johnny Stomp", "John Steele", and "Oscar", was a former United States Marine who became a bodyguard and enforcer for gangster Mickey Cohen. Johnny Stomp was a featured character in one of my very favorite films "LA Confidential".

Good Friday 1958 the police were called to Lana Turner's spacious home in Beverly Hills.  They found a man lying dead on the floor of Lana's pink boudoir.

The man was Johnny Stomp. He and his lover, Lana had gotten into a terrible row as Ms Turner was trying to end their affair. In the next room was Lana's 14 year old daughter Cheryl..She heard the horrible fighting and testified that she had seen bruising on her mother's face from beatings inflicted by Johnny.

"There were awful fights, screaming and yelling and smashing glasses and just, you know, things I wasn't used to hearing," Cheryl told Larry King. "And she finally sat me down and told me the whole story about having had him thrown out of England when she was filming there because he beat her so badly. How he had threatened her life, my grandmother's life. She couldn't get him out of the house. She couldn't get rid of him. And my reaction was, 'Well, mother, call the police.'

Lana wouldn't call the police for fear of the negative publicity to her career.  The fight escalated and Cheryl yelled through the door for him to stop.  Lana ordered her daughter away from the door.

Cheryl went down to the kitchen and grabbed a carving knife and went back to her mother's bedroom door..the fight had calmed some but then she heard Stompanato threaten to cut her mother's face and hurt she and her grandmother.

Within minutes a doctor and Lana's mother were on the scene. Turner was giving Johnny mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when they arrived. The doctor, a family friend, gave Stompanato a shot of adrenaline directly into his heart, but it was fruitless. Johnny Stompanato, military hero, wannabe actor, small-time hood, gigolo and abuser was dead.

Jewelry Johnny was wearing that night...

Soon the Beverly Hills Police descended on Turners home and with them came a throng of reporters. It was inevitable that the media would be tipped to the story by police sources. The next morning, crime scene photos of Johnny Stompanato lying dead in Lana Turners bedroom were on the front page of newspapers everywhere.

Rumors spread that perhaps Lana had really been the stabber..her daughter covering for her mother. Cheryl states to this day that was not the case.

Lana and Cheryl rode to the Beverly Hills Police Station in Attorney Geisler's (Better Call Saul) limousine. There had been some questioning at the homicide scene, but formal statements were not taken until after Lana and her daughter had time to discuss the case with Geisler. That opportunity to confer helped spur rumors that Lana had killed Johnny and tried to blame Cheryl.

Photo above: Lana Turner, her gangster boyfriend Johnny Stompanato, and her daughter and his future killer Cheryl Crane.

Under questioning by authorities, with her mother present, Cheryl recounted the story of Stompanato's death.

"I think that they were so careful to make sure they dotted all their I's and crossed all their T's," Cheryl told Larry King. "And they didn't want anyone to show say they showed favoritism, you know, a star's kid or anything like that, because they kept me overnight at the Beverly Hills police station in a cell."

It's no secret that the glamorous veneer of Hollywood is paper-thin and that beneath the glitzy surface exists a world of greed, violence and decadence.

Like a movie set, the Hollywood facade has no depth and cannot stand too close scrutiny. There is no other place where the difference between style and substance is so great. Hollywood is a dream factory, and dreams are not reality.
