WILLIAM CLAY FORD SR HAS DIED AT 88

 

DETROIT, Mich. (March 9, 2014)- According to Jennifer Hammond of FOX 2 in Detroit, Detroit Lions’ owner William Clay Ford Sr. has died. He was the last surviving grandchild of Henry Ford.

Ford bought controlling interest in the Lions back in November of 1963. Since that time the Lions have been to the playoffs ten times and only winning one playoff game.

Ford is survived by his wife, Martha and his four children, Martha, Elizabeth, Shelia and Detroit Lions Vice Chairman William Jr.

William Clay Ford Sr. was 88-years-old.

Ford was the youngest of Edsel Ford's four children, born March 14, 1925. Before his death, he was the only surviving grandson of Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company.

In May 2005, he retired from the Ford Board of Directors in May 2005, ending a tenure that began in 1948.

“My father was a great business leader and humanitarian who dedicated his life to the company and the community,” said William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “He also was a wonderful family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, yet he will continue to inspire us all.”
