THE CYRKLE TO RELEASE NEW GREATEST HITS RECORDINGS

THE CYRKLE Opened for The Beatles at Shea Stadium and Candlestick Park!

Studio City, CA – Lightyear Entertainment announces a new agreement with The Cyrkle to release new 2020 recordings of their huge pop hits of the 1960’s.

The Cyrkle opened for The Beatles at Shea Stadium and Candlestick Park in 1966, and were managed by Brian Epstein and Nat Weiss. They were originally called The Rhondells, but John Lennon suggested that they change their name to The Cyrkle, and they took his advice.

Their biggest hit, Red Rubber Ball, was written by Paul Simon and Bruce Woodley, and rose to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lightyear will release the 2020 recording of Red Rubber Ball on October 2, 2020.

The band’s other huge hit was Turn Down Day, written by Jerry Keller and David Blume, which rose to #16 on the Hot 100. This has also been newly recorded and will be released through Lightyear in November.

The Cyrkle were offered another Paul Simon song but regretfully turned it down back in the day. But they have finally recorded The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy) now, for the first time, and Lightyear will release it in January, 2021.

The recordings feature original members Don Dannemann and Mike Losekamp, joined by Pat McLoughlin, Mike Shoaf, Don White and Scott Langley.

Lightyear has quietly amassed a collection of big hit re-recordings by the original artists during the past few years, all released through the company’s longstanding distribution deal with Caroline/Universal Music Group. They include Jay Siegel’s Tokens (The Lion Sleeps Tonight), The Searchers (Needles and Pins), Irene Cara (Flashdance…What a Feeling), Rick Derringer (Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo), The McCoys (Hang On Sloopy), Jay & the Techniques (Apple, Peaches Pumpkin Pie), Herman’s Hermits (I’m Into Something Good), the Shadows of Knight (Gloria), the Rip Chords (Hey Little Cobra), Frank Stallone (Far From Over), and the Beau Brummels (Laugh Laugh).

KIMMER'S TOP 5 TV SERIES FOR ESCAPING THE PANDEMIC!

During this hideous COVID 19 Pandemic the best thing for me is having all the time in the world to stream all my favorite tv series over and over! So in no particular order, here are my top 5. I seem to be escaping into Britain. They take me away...

THE CROWN ( Netflix)

The Crown is a historical drama web television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, created and principally written by Peter Morgan, and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. It grew out of Morgan's film The Queen (2006) and his stage play The Audience (2013), and is credited as based on the latter. The first season covers the period from Elizabeth and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh's marriage in 1947 to the disintegration of her sister Princess Margaret's engagement to Group Captain Peter Townsend in 1955. 

The second season covers the period from the Suez Crisis in 1956 to the retirement of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1963 and the birth of Prince Edward in 1964. The third season spans the period between 1964 and 1977, including Harold Wilson's two periods as prime minister, and introduces Camilla Shand. The fourth will include Margaret Thatcher's premiership and introduce Lady Diana Spencer. Watch on Netflix 

BREAKING BAD (Netflix)

Breaking Bad is an American neo-Western crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The show aired on AMC from January 20, 2008, to September 29, 2013, consisting of five seasons for a total of 62 episodes. 

It was set and filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), an underpaid and dispirited high school chemistry teacher who is struggling with a recent diagnosis of stage-three lung cancer. White turns to a life of crime, partnering with his former student.

THE SOPRANOS (HBO)

The Sopranos revolves around fictional New Jersey-based, Italian American mobster Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini). The series portrays the difficulties that he faces as he tries to balance his home life and his criminal organization. 

These are often highlighted during his therapy sessions with psychiatrist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco). The series features Tony's family members, mafia colleagues, and rivals in prominent roles and story arcs, most notably his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) and protégé Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli).

DOWNTON ABBEY (Amazon Prime/PBS)

Downton Abbey is a British historical drama television series set in the early 20th century, created and co-written by Julian Fellowes. 

The series, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era—with the great events of the time having an effect on their lives and on the British social hierarchy. Events depicted throughout the series include news of the sinking of the Titanic in the first series; the outbreak of the First World War, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal in the second series; the Irish War of Independence leading to the formation of the Irish Free State in the third series; the Teapot Dome scandal in the fourth series; the British general election of 1923 and the Beer Hall Putsch in the fifth series. The sixth and final series introduces the rise of the working class during the interwar period and hints at the eventual decline of the British aristocracy.

The Forsyte Saga, (Amazon Prime/PBS)

First published under that title in 1922, is a series of three novels and two interludes published between 1906 and 1921 by Nobel Prize–winning English author John Galsworthy. They chronicle the vicissitudes of the leading members of a large, upper-middle-class English family, similar to Galsworthy's family.[1] Only a few generations removed from their farmer ancestors, the family members are keenly aware of their status as "new money". The main character, Soames Forsyte, sees himself as a "man of property" by virtue of his ability to accumulate material possessions – but this does not succeed in bringing him pleasure.

ANN RULE, TED BUNDY, AND THE CAPTURE OF THE GREEN RIVER KILLER

Ted Bundy was not looking forward to sitting in the Florida electric chair. As the execution time grew near, Ted tried confessing to his murders and dangling burial information to his jailers in exchange for extending his life on Death Row. The Florida Governor denied his offer to "confess" and the execution date remained unchanged.

However, fans of the Netflix show Mindhunter (great show!) know the story of the invention of the FBI Profiling Unit. FBI agents traveled to various prisons to interview various serial killers to learn about serial killers and their motives and characteristics. 

When authorities in Washington State were at a loss trying to find the "The Green River Killer" they approached Bundy for his take on what this killer might be like. Ted called him "The River Man". Read more about the story here.

How Ted Bundy Helped Catch the Green River Killer After being given death sentences in 1979 and 1980, Ted Bundy was on death row when murders started happening in Washington state in 1982. Investigators were stumped by the slayings around south King County, as young women kept disappearing and with their bodies turning up along the Green River. Ted Bundy is known as one of the most notorious serial killers in American history, 

having admitted to killing 36 women, but possibly having as many as 100 victims during his murdering spree in the 1970s. After being given death sentences in 1979 and 1980, Bundy was on death row when murders started happening in Washington state in 1982. 

 Investigators were stumped by the slayings around south King County, as young women kept disappearing and with their bodies turning up along the Green River. The murderer on the loose became known as the Green River Killer, but officials couldn’t track down his whereabouts — until they were offered assistance from none other than Bundy, who gave them insight into the mentality of a serial killer. Eventually, with Bundy's help, Gary Ridgway was caught and admitted to his 49th murder on February 18, 2011, with actual estimates being closer to 80 victims. 

Crime Writer Ann Rule

In the late 1980s, my assistant Marjie, /told me about her cousin True Crime author Ann Rule. I became addicted to reading Ann's many books. 

Then, when email became the big thing in the late 1990s I struck up an email friendship with Ms. Rule. She had worked with Ted Bundy at the Suicide Hotline then helped get him arrested and spoke with him when he was in prison. Ann wrote the first book on Ted Bundy, "The Stranger Beside Me". Great book! Then she spent 20 years patiently waiting for the Green River Killer to captured. Those two cases we chatted online about for years.  Ann Rule was instrumental in both of these cases and someone needs to make a film about her life! Heads up ID Network and Netflix!

ViacomCBS’s new streaming service Paramount+ has announced the new series The Offer, which is based on Oscar-winning producer Al Ruddy’s experience while making the hit movie, Deadline reports. Al worked closely with director Francis Ford Coppola along with Bob Evans and Mario Puzo on making the 1972 movie.

The 10-part series, produced by Paramount Television Studios, is written and exec produced by Michael Tolkin. Al will also serve as executive producer on The Offer. The Godfather won the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor for Marlon Brando, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Puzo and Coppola. Paramount+ is set to launch in 2022.

ISRAELPROGRESSIVE WIZRDS SCARDUST HAVE RELEASED A NEW MUSIC VIDEO

Tantibus is a word with Latin roots, meaning “Nightmare” . Some say it is an evil spirit that puts the sleeper into a state of Paralysis. It has the monstrous character of a nightmare and produces a feeling of anxiety or terror.

Tantibus II continues the story of the song Tantibus (the first ever single and video the band officially released, back in 2015) in which the protagonist is stuck within a Sleep Paralysis and is looking for a way out.

In Tantibus II the protagonist becomes addicted to this feeling, describing it as “taming her demon”, disconnecting from reality into her own mind in which she can now feel safe.

The EXIT sign represents the way out of the nightmare, as seen in Tantibus when the protagonist chases it without ever reaching it. Tantibus II’s opening shot is an EXIT sign broken into pieces at the feet of the protagonist who is holding a hammer. This is when she decided to destroy her way out and sink into her nightmare.

Soon we will find out that in reality there is someone who cares about our protagonist, and they will get to show their side of this story in the very next song to be released. Can you guess what it’s called? Check our YouTube channel on Tuesday, September 15th to see if you’re right.

Vocalist Noa Gruman explains, “Strangers deals with the concept of being estranged. Written from multiple perspectives, it explores the ways in which people can be estranged from one another, from themselves, from society, from their loved ones and even from their own subconscious. After the overture, which introduces musical themes, the album separates into two parts. Every song from the second part is a mirror image of a parallel song in the first. Each pair of songs tells the story of a pair of strangers. They can be played together as a standalone piece, as individual songs or as part of the album, whatever the listener’s heart desires.”

“Strangers” was written and composed jointly by singer and bandleader Noa Gruman and Orr Didi, who also collaborated with Gruman on “Sands of Time” – which was hailed by Prog Magazine as “extraordinary” – and Scardust’s debut EP “Shadow.”

The recording sessions for “Strangers” began in the winter of 2020. From there, the band was faced with the outbreak of COVID-19, which brutally destroyed their recording plans, ironically forcing them to continue the process in isolation, estranged from one another, in their individual home studios.

The album’s guest of honor is Patty Gurdy, a fantastic German folk musician and a dear friend of the band. The band’s relationship with Patty began two years ago after mutual admiration led to a guest appearance at a Berlin concert by the band. A friendship blossomed into a combined Scardust/Patty Gurdy UK tour in 2019 and now culminates in the track “Concrete Cages” on this album. Inspired by Patty’s unique playing, singing and character, this song was tailored by the band especially for her. They planned to record, perform a show and shoot a video together in Tel Aviv, but unfortunately, just days before Gurdy was due to travel, all flights between Germany and Israel were banned, forcing them to change their plans and adapt to the new reality. Eventually, Gurdy recorded in her home studio in Germany with support from Gruman via video chat from Israel, in tune with the times.

“Strangers” also continues SCARDUST’s tradition of featuring lush and expansive vocals by the Hellscore choir. Gruman founded Hellscore for the recordings of the band’s previous album, and they have returned to reprise their role on “Strangers.” Since forming, Hellscore have also recorded and performed with Amorphis, Therion, Ayreon, Orphaned Land and many more.

In addition, the album features the vocals of England’s prestigious Westbrook Hay Prep School Chamber Choir, who have performed at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. Says Gruman, “Recording the Westbrook Hay Prep School Chamber Choir led by Chris Wagstaff was one of the highlights of the recording process for me, and delivered a magical moment on the album. I flew to the UK especially to conduct and record them with Tony Wilson. The choir, made up of about 40 kids between the ages of 8 and 11, had prepared with great diligence and dedication, and their wonderful voices add magic to the song ‘Huts,’ which speaks about the wish to return to a simpler way of life.”

Israel’s leading progressive metal group, SCARDUST has performed at such major festivals as Ramblin’ Man Fair (UK), Metaldays (Slovenia) and Midi (China). In addition, the band hosts the annual “Scarfest” event in their home country, where they’ve also appeared alongside the likes of Therion, Epica and Symphony X.
