We had such a great time last year with Michael and Terry Sack. I will be at one of these gigs...most likely Lansing. We'll have a big story after that show...

I'm glad to inform you that this year I will be part of Sydney Fringe from the 7th to the 30th of September with my exhibition Rock and Roll Shots.Rock and Roll Shots is an exhibition of international music photographs including portraits, band shots and concerts photos.

A large portion was commissioned by record companies, magazines, and the artists themselves. The rest is personal work. The exhibition will be hosted by the Green Room Lounge on Enmore road, Enmore. Rock and Roll Shots

French-born Emmy Etié, music photographer, brings her exhibition Rock and Roll Shots to the 2012 Sydney Fringe Festival from 7 to 30 September. The exhibition at Enmore’s Green Room Lounge showcases both Etié’s live and portrait work and features more than 50 images of rock luminaries including: Iggy and the Stooges; Deniz Tek; The Hoodoo Gurus; Frank Black, The Hives and the White Stripes.

Etié enrolled in photography at Paris’ Gobelins l'École de l'Image , a professional school specialising in advertising photography. She pursued her love of music photography whilst studying, becoming a fixture in the Parisian music scene and a favourite with music promoters who invited her to cover tours from acts including: The Hives; The White Stripes; The Libertines, The Vines and The Mars Volta. Commissioned work from bands, record labels and music press (Rolling Stone France, Crossroads, Rock Sound and Rock One) soon followed.

In 2007, Etié collated her favourite images to create Rock and Roll Shots an exhibition which toured France in 2007-2008 and now debuts in Australia at the very cool Sydney Fringe Festival.

Etié now lives in Sydney and very excited to present Rock and Roll Shots to her new hometown. The images in the exhibition have updated to include recent local work as part of the 2012 Sydney Fringe Festival.

“I am so happy to bring this exhibition to Australia and very pleased to be part of the Sydney Fringe Festival. Some of my favourite photos in this exhibition were shot during my sojourns to Sydney and it will be fantastic to share them with music and photography fans during the Festival.” Says Etié.

“If you are out at a gig and you see Emmy, you’ll know when she’s going to get her camera out. You see the dawning of the idea come over her face first. It is only then she starts examining the angles and the ambient light. She hunts down the spot; the perfect spot. A hunter by trade, she works her way into position and waits.

She doesn’t fire off a million shots and hope for the best. She waits for that perfect twenty fifth of a second. (YAY) But don’t take my word for it. Just look at her work. Have you seen that photo of Joan Jett caught mid wink? Genius.

If a picture paints a thousand words, she had me hopelessly outgunned already. Emmy chooses nothing except the best thousand words,” says musician Bob Short.

ERNEST BORGNINE: MC HALE'S NAVY STAR

Ernest Borgnine (born Ermes Effron Borgnino, January 24, 1917 – July 8, 2012) was an American film and television actor whose career spanned more than six decades. He was an unconventional lead in many films of the 1950s, winning an Oscar in 1955 for Marty.

We loved Mc Hale's Navy as a kid and thought that show was so funny.. Then when I was young I was the film "Marty" on Bill Kennedy's Movie Show on the weekends. This film and Ernest Borgnine in particular, blew my mind with his acting... The film was so sad to me that I never watched it again. Maybe I will be brave and see it again this week as I am certain it will be playing all over TV.

Marty is a 34-year-old butcher whose Italian family is constantly after him to get married. He meets plain-looking school teacher Clara. They are both lonely, unglamorous people who have resigned themselves to their lonely lives. But they manage, in time, find their way to love.

In 1962, Borgnine joined the ranks of other sitcom stars such as John Forsythe, Andy Griffith, Danny Thomas, Alan Young, Fred MacMurray and Buddy Ebsen. That same year he signed a contract with Universal Studios for the lead role as the gruff but lovable skipper Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale in what began as a serious one-hour 1962 episode called Seven Against the Sea for Alcoa Premiere, and later reworked to a comedy called McHale's Navy, a World War II sitcom. The insubordinate crew of PT-73 helped the show become an overnight success during its first season, landing in the Top 30 in 1963.

Just like the McHale character, Borgnine was a longtime navy man in real life. He thrived on the adulation from fans for their favorite navy man, and in 1963 received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

At the end of the fourth season, in 1966 low ratings and repetitive story lines brought McHale's Navy to an end. Borgnine was not happy about the show’s cancellation and was concerned about what television role he might play in the future. He also starred in the 1964 film version of the series and later appeared in a cameo performance in the 1997 remake.

After McHale's Navy Ernest co-starred in the mid-1980s action series Airwolf, in addition to a wide variety of other roles. Borgnine was also known for his role as Mermaid Man in the animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants. Borgnine earned an Emmy Award nomination at age 92 for his work on the series ER.

Borgnine married five times. He was first married to Rhoda Kemins (1949–1958), whom he met while serving in the Navy;[8] They had one daughter, Nancee (born May 28, 1952). Then he married actress Katy Jurado (1959–1963) Borgnine once referred to his second ex-wife this way: "Beautiful, but a tiger."

He later married singer Ethel Merman (1964); the marriage barely lasted a month. Their divorce was finalised on May 25, 1965. Borgnine married Donna Rancourt (1965–1972), with whom he had a son, Christopher (born August 9, 1969) and two daughters, Sharon (born August 5, 1965) and Diana (born December 29, 1970). His fifth and last marriage was to Tova Traesnaes (married February 24, 1973).

On January 24, 2007, Borgnine celebrated his 90th birthday at a bistro in West Hollywood, California. Guests included his wife Tova, decades-long friend Tim Conway, Dennis Farina, Army Archerd, Andy Granatelli, Bo Hopkins, Burt Young, Steven Bauer, his son Cris Borgnine, grandson Anthony Borgnine, Connie Stevens, David Gerber, Debbie Reynolds, Joe Mantegna, Norm Crosby and many more.

FERRARI DESIGNER SERGIO PININFARINA

MILAN (Reuters) - Sergio Pininfarina, whose family company designed almost every Ferrari since the 1950s and whose name is still synonymous with some of the world's most glamorous cars, has died aged 85.

The company said on Tuesday he died overnight in his Turin home.

Pininfarina had been groomed by his father Gian Battista, a onetime Turin carriage maker who founded the influential car design house in the 1930s, to succeed him in the business since he was a child.

Born in 1926, he joined the family firm after graduating in mechanical engineering from Turin's Polytechnic University, became chief executive in 1961 and then chairman when his father died in 1966.

By then, the company had already risen to prominence through a knack for making the latest aerodynamic design trends attractive to a broader public.

The family's prestige in Italy was such that it was allowed to change its name to Pininfarina from the original Farina - Pinin, meaning "the little one" in Piedmont, was Gian Battista's nickname - with a presidential decree in 1961.

The ground-breaking 1947 Cisalfa coupe, designed by Gian Battista "Pinin" Farina after World War Two, now sits in New York's Museum of Modern Art. It was one of Sergio's favorite models.

Gian Battista also initiated the Ferrari connection in 1952, but Sergio ended up managing most of their common projects and turned the business from craftsman level into a world renowned name.

ANDY GRIFFITH....TV STAR DIED AT 86

Not sure if I have ever met a person that didn't like the Andy Griffith Show. Even in Europe they loved Andy. This TV show was so great you either laughed so loud or cried through it. Remember when Opie killed the bird with his slingshot? Sob through that episode to this day...

Television icon Andy Griffith, known to generations as the star of The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock, has died at age 86, a friend told WITN News in North Carolina. An emergency medical crew responded to a call from the actor's home in Dare County early this morning.

As the sheriff of the fictional town known as Mayberry, Griffith became one of TV's most beloved characters in the show that carried his name, which ran from 1960-1968. Future film director Ron Howard played Griffith's young son, Opie. Read more:

Andrew Samuel "Andy" Griffith (June 1, 1926 – July 3, 2012) was an American actor, director, producer, Grammy Award-winning Southern-gospel singer, and writer. He gained prominence in the starring role in director Elia Kazan's epic film A Face in the Crowd (1957) before he became better known for his television roles, playing the lead characters in the 1960–1968 situation comedy The Andy Griffith Show and in the 1986–1995 legal drama Matlock. Griffith died on July 3, 2012 at the age of 86.

Griffith was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, the only child of Geneva (née Nunn) and Carl Lee Griffith. At a very young age, Griffith had to live with relatives until his parents could afford to get a home of their own. Without a crib or a bed, he slept in drawers for a few months. In 1929, when Griffith was three years old, his father took a job working as a carpenter and was finally able to purchase a home in Mount Airy's "blue-collar" southside.

Like his mother, Griffith grew up listening to music. His father instilled a sense of humor from old family stories. By the time he entered school he was well aware that he was from what many considered the "wrong side of the tracks". He was a shy student, but once he found a way to make his peers laugh, he began to come out of his shell and come into his own.

As a student at Mount Airy High School, Griffith cultivated an interest in the arts, and he participated in the school's drama program. A growing love of music, particularly swing, would change his life. Griffith was raised Baptist and looked up to Ed Mickey, a minister at Grace Moravian Church, who led the brass band and taught him to sing and play the trombone.

Sheriff Andrew Jackson "Andy" Taylor (Andy Griffith) - Sheriff of the town of Mayberry. He is genial, good-natured and endears himself to the townsfolk with an air of good will, polite charm and keeps the peace by using common sense. He refuses to wear a gun or formalize his uniform with a tie, the image of which he says makes him more approachable. 

Andy is a widower with a young son, Opie, and tries to raise him with good sense and good values. Also in his home is his paternal Aunt Bea who arrives in the home shortly after the previous housekeeper Rose, marries and moves away. Although a widower, Andy has a steady string of girlfriends, but his longest-lasting relationship is with Helen Crump, Opie's teacher, whom he eventually marries.

Deputy Bernard P. "Barney" Fife (Don Knotts) - Deputy of the town of Mayberry. Thin, wirey and high-strung, Barney fancies himself an expert lawman even though - in reality - he is actually a bumbling goof. In episodes 001 and 002, Andy refers to him as "Cousin Barney"; in episode 025, his middle name is said to be "Oliver". He considers his position to be essential to keeping Mayberry safe.
