DETROIT'S FORMER PARK AVENUE HOTEL TO BE IMPLODED JULY 11

Park Avenue hotel left and Hotel Eddystone on right in Detroit

Billy Wilson and I along with Michael Kuentz are going to be there to see this. I am excited about the New Olympia Arena though it is sad that these historic buildings have been abandoned for decades.

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The former Park Avenue hotel in Detroit is set to be imploded to make room for the new Red Wings hockey arena, according to Ilitch Holdings.

The controlled demolition is scheduled for 8 a.m. on July 11. The Hotel Park Avenue has been scheduled for demolition, but the Hotel Eddystone next door has been scheduled for renovation.

Olympia Development said they will provide additional street and window cleaning resources on July 11 for those impacted in the area.

Doug Kuiper of Ilitch Holidings issued the following statement Thursday: "The implosion methodology reduces the time and impact of the Harbor Lights removal from a three-month, second shift effort to a single morning. It moderates community impact while allowing the project to continue on its timeline for a September 2017 opening.

All work will follow best practices and city requirements, and we will work closely with residents, businesses and other organizations to ensure a safe demolition with minimal impact on the community. Read Full Story on WXYZ

PAUL LYNDE: A BIOGRAPHY

This book will let you into the heart and soul of Paul Lynde. Best remembered for outrageous jokes on The Hollywood Squares, as Uncle Arthur from Bewitched, and as the frantic father in Bye Bye Birdie, Paul was never satisfied with his career - or his personal life. But even as he suffered through some of the cruelest of times, Paul continued to make us forget our troubles, and was forever gracious to his fans. This is the book those fans have been waiting for.

Though he was one of the most original, hilarious, and private actor-comedians of all time, author Cathy Rudolph, his trusted friend, reveals her adventures with Paul - along with his turbulent life story. Here for the first time are interviews with his relatives, personal notes, and never-before-published photos.

Also included are memories from his friends and peers including Cloris Leachman, Chita Rivera, Florence Henderson, Kaye Ballard, Peter Marshall, Les Roberts, Betty White, and many more. I've been saying for forty years that Paul Lynde could deliver a punch line better than any other comedian. READ MORE ABOUT PAUL LYNDE

WHITEY BULGER WRITES LETTER OF REMORSE

Out of character for a sociopath...Boston mob boss was sentenced to life in prison for 11 killings and other gangland crimes.

Notorious Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger, an 85-year-old inmate currently serving out two life sentences for his role in 11 murders, recently penned a letter to some teenage girls from prison, telling them he wasted his life.

“My life was wasted and spent foolishly, brought shame and suffering on my parents and siblings and will end soon,” he wrote. “Advice is a cheap commodity some seek it from me about crime. Read Full Story
