COLORFORMS: ONE OF MY FAVORITE RETRO TOYS

Back in the late 1950s to early 1960s, the first tv obsession I had was Romper Room out of Detroit and Canada. We were lucky to have 2 different Romper Rooms to watch.

My favorite part of the show was Willie the Weatherman. I loved to watch the host pick out what type of clothing for Willie to wear matching the weather outside. One of the very first Colorform sets I had was Willie the Weatherman and my love for these cool toys grew from there.

Colorforms is a creative toy named for the simple shapes and forms cut from colored vinyl sheeting that cling to a smooth backing surface without adhesives. These pieces are used to create picture graphics and designs, which can then be changed countless times by repositioning the removable color forms.

The Colorforms concept was developed by Harry and Patricia Kislevitz in 1951, firmly rooted in the Modernist design ethos and reflecting the Color Field abstract style prevalent at the time.

The basic concept behind Colorforms was the ability to adhere and reposition color form shapes on random surfaces to create art. Both recent art students, Harry and Patricia discovered the idea when they acquired several rolls of flexible paper-thin colored vinyl used to manufacture plastic pocketbooks and found that it would stick to the glossy paint in their bathroom. They found that they could reposition the pieces at will without affecting either surface.

Unlike stickers, which a child could use just once, these pieces could be moved over and over without running out of adhesion.

The first Colorforms product to utilize a licensed character property featured Popeye, the King Features Syndicate cartoon character, released as a boxed set in 1957. Since then, licensed products have remained critically important to the Colorforms marketing strategy, with hundreds of brands connected to Colorforms.

Later Colorforms licensed various properties, producing sets supporting varied cartoons, TV series, movie releases, and popular musical artists, like The Beatles, Peanuts, Gumby*, Tarzan, The Three Stooges, Doctor Do little, Star Trek, Batman and Superman (along with a whole pantheon of comic book superheroes), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Smurfs, and even Steve Urkel. read more

THE GREEN MILE: MAKING OF THE FILM CLASSIC

One of my very favorite films of all time is THE GREEN MILE. From a Stephen King short story, this movie runs the gamut on emotions. We are afraid, revolted, sad, hysterical laughter, in love and beyond. this movie never gets old for me, I always find something new each time I view it... here is what it is about if you have never seen it..or just love it over and over like me...xoK

The lives of guards on Death Row are affected by one of their charges: a black man accused of child murder and rape, yet who has a mysterious gift.

Stephen King Visits The Green Mile Set

The film stars Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecomb and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey, with supporting roles by David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, and James Cromwell. The film also features Dabbs Greer in his final film, as the older Paul Edgecomb.

The film, told in a flashback format, tells the story of Paul's life as a death row corrections officer during the U.S. Great Depression, and the supernatural events he witnessed.

Full Cast

Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecomb
Dabbs Greer as old Paul Edgecomb
David Morse as Brutus "Brutal" Howell
Bonnie Hunt as Jan Edgecomb
Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey
James Cromwell as Warden Hal Moores
Michael Jeter as Eduard "Del" Delacroix
Doug Hutchison as Percy Wetmore
Sam Rockwell as William "Wild Bill" Wharton
Jeffrey DeMunn as Harry Terwilliger
Barry Pepper as Dean Stanton
Patricia Clarkson as Melinda Moores
Brent Briscoe as Bill Dodge
Harry Dean Stanton as Toot-Toot
Gary Sinise as Burt Hammersmith
Graham Greene as Arlen Bitterbuck
William Sadler as Klaus Detterick
Bill McKinney as Jack Van Hay
Jon Polito as "D" Block Prison Guard
Eve Brent as Elaine Connelly
Paula Malcomson as Marjorie Detterick

Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanor.

GRACE AND FRANKIE AND LONGMIRE: NETFLIX ADDICTIONS

"Grace and Frankie" stars (from left) Sam Waterston, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Martin Sheen. Photo: Melissa Moseley for Netflix

I binged watched the 13 half hour episodes of Grace and Frankie last night and now I want MORE.. Will anxiously await the next season.

The story is about how two men fall in love after 20 years they finally decide to come out and tell their spouses and families....The fall out is poignant at times but mostly just hilarious! Lily Tomlin had me in hysterics all night! The cast is all fantastic...I give this show ★★★★★ for pure entertainment!

"Longmire" cast from left:  Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Adam Bartley, Bailey Chase. Cassidy Freeman, and Lou Diamond Phillips

Based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, this contemporary crime drama stars Australian actor Robert Taylor in the title role, the charismatic and dedicated sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo.  (Beautifully filmed in New Mexico)

Longmire patrols the county with a brave face and sense of humor, but deep inside he hides the pain of his wife's recent death. With the urging of his daughter, Cady, and the help of Vic, a new female deputy, Longmire gains a new appreciation of his job and decides to run for re-election. He's committed to putting his life back together, one piece at a time, and he often calls on best friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support.

This show is 3 seasons long and 1 hour episodes. It is like a combination of Gunsmoke and CSI! It is compelling. I just love all the main characters! They are all fabulous actors. You are transported to Wyoming and become quickly involved with their complicated lives....and murder

One of my favorite actors Lee Tergeson from the HBO series OZ (he played Toby) makes a 5 episode appearance and he was just good...Why why why doesn't Lee have a bigger career? He needs his own series and soon!

Longmire was fantastic! I was engrossed in Absaroka County, Wyo and on the "Res" with Sheriff Walt and Henry. I love also that the female deputy is tough and not just eye candy. She saves the day as much as the men do! Go Vic! ★★★★★
