THE WRECKING CREW: THE UNSUNG HEROES OF ROCK N ROLL

Yesterday I was perusing my facebook page and saw some guys talking about the Wrecking Crew documentary on HULU. We have been aware of their existence since it became common knowledge that the Monkees didn't play the instruments on their early songs. A large group of Hollywood's master musicians played those songs.

Phil Spector and the Ronettes

Also we noticed the large amount of musicians that created Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound", but never put it together that this  large band was playing on everybody's records back in the 1960s.

Tommy Tedesco

Tommy Tedesco was the most-recorded guitarist in the history of the music business. His four-decade career earned him a reputation among his peers as one of the world's best musicians, and his contributions have been instrumental in shaping the sound of popular music.

These musicians known as the Wrecking Crew played on thousands of soundtracks and LPs for scale. the deal was they had very steady work, decent pay, but must remain anonymous as to not show up the bands they were sitting in for.

The musicians lived to play and took so many jobsit was amazing that they got any sleep at all! Look at Tommy Tedesco's  Discography on All Music and Movie Television soundtracks on IMDB. Just astounding the amount of work this original Guitar Hero contributed to American cuture! Mind lowing to be sure.

To create all of this amazing work and yet barely be known to the mainstream is about to rectified with this film The Wrecking Crew. I loved it so much I watched it 3 times in a row.

About: The Wrecking Crew was a loose collective of session musicians based in Los Angeles whose services were employed for thousands of studio recordings in the 1960s and early 1970s, including several hundred Top 40 hits.

The musicians were not publicly recognized in their era, but were viewed prestigiously by industry insiders. They are now considered one of the most successful and prolific session recording units in music history.

Most of the players associated with the Wrecking Crew had formal backgrounds in jazz or classical music. The group had no official name in their active years, and it remains a subject of contention whether or not they were referred to as "The Wrecking Crew" at the time.

Drummer Hal Blaine

Drummer Hal Blaine popularized the name in a 1990 memoir, attributing it to older musicians who felt that the group's embrace of rock and roll was going to "wreck" the music industry. READ MORE

GLEN CAMPBELL DIED YESTERDAY

Glen Campbell finally succumbed to Alzheimer's disease yesterday. It was announced about 17 hours ago. Poor Glen, his last years were a tragic struggle for dignity, but now he is free.

John Wayne Kim Darby and Glen in True Grit

Glen was one of my very very favorite performers throughout my entire life. I loved his TV show when I was a kid and of course he was so good in the John Wayne movie TRUE GRIT. The theme song from TG is still so beautiful..

A rep for Universal Music Group, Campbell's record label, confirmed the singer's death to Rolling Stone. During a career that spanned six decades, Campbell sold over 45 million records. In 1968, one of his biggest years, he outsold the Beatles.

Glen had so many gorgeous songs...Witchita Lineman stands tall to this day.. As will Glen Campbell's talent and legend. He was loved by his peers, friends, family and his legions of fans around the globe. RIP
