ROBERT CRAY AND HI RHYTHM NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY!

“It's the most difficult thing to write, a modern blues. The only person I know who can do it well is Robert Cray. It comes straight out of him.
I saw him recently this year, and he's still doing it. He's on fire, the real thing.”
– Eric Clapton, 2017

Robert Cray, legendary Memphis sidemen Hi Rhythm and Steve Jordan are honored to be nominated for the Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 60th Grammy Awards. “Meegan Voss and I are very proud to release this great album on our label, Jay-Vee Records. It’s been one of the most gratifying experiences of our careers, and we’re grateful to Robert for giving us this opportunity,” says Jordan, who produced Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm," says Jordan, who produced Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm for Jay-Vee Records, the label he founded with Meegan Voss.

Released during the 60th Anniversary of Royal Studios in Memphis, recording the self-titled Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm “was a soul, rhythm and blues fantasy camp for us,” adds Jordan, who first met Cray in 1987 while working on the concert film Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll, a tribute to ‪Chuck Berry. “Memphis, for me, is the home of American music,” says Cray, who, for the past four decades has been blurring the lines of R&B, blues and soul with five Grammy wins and over 20 records.

The acclaimed LP features Rev. Charles Hodges (organ and piano), Leroy “Flick” Hodges (bass), along with cousin Archie “Hubbie” Turner (keyboards) and Steve Jordan on drums and percussion, with beloved Memphis vocal group The Masqueraders and the great Tony Joe White on guitar for two of his own songs, “Aspen, Colorado” and “Don’t Steal My Love.”

The Grammy nomination has been one of the many 2017 highlights for Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm, who each received lifetime achievement awards at the 2017 Americana Music Awards, performed on Conan, Jools Holland, NPR World Café, Beale Street Caravan and featured the album’s protest song “Just How Low” live at KCSN in Los Angeles. “We finished mastering in January 2017. This is an Obama record!” adds Steve, who shared his story this year on WTF with Marc Maron. You can also catch Steve interviewing Robert for his new SiriusXM show, Layin’ It Down.

University experts determined these bones are more than 15,000 years old. Researchers have determined that the mammoth was likely a 45-year-old male.

University of Michigan paleontologists conducted a second excavation this week at the Chelsea-area farm where the skull, tusks and dozens of intact bones of an ice age mammoth were pulled from the ground in late 2015.

A U-M news video of the skull and two attached tusks being hoisted from the muddy excavation pit with a backhoe on October 1, 2015, has been viewed more than 875,000 times on YouTube.

JAPAN WANTS TO ADD SOUND TO HYBRID VEHICLES

Blind people will hear you coming in your soundless engined car...

Hybrid vehicles might be the ride of choice for gangsters in television shows where they can go and leave unnoticed.

In real life though, people are complaining of the dangers the silent hybrid engines. Imagine crossing the street without hearing a vehicle’s sound, and the next thing you know is a bumper near your knee.

Companies like Lotus designs gadgets to provide engine noise for the silent vehicles. Japan is even thinking if it should make the device mandatory for all hybrid vehicles to improve safety on the road.

The root of the problem is on the design of the electric engine of the vehicles (traditional cars use custom parts by t-rex). Running on electric power alone, the car does not produce any noise when cruising on low speed. The quiet cruising of the EV has been an issue especially for visually impaired persons walking on the street.

Visually impaired persons depend on sounds when they walk on the street and they have petitioned to the government to make the streets safer for them as they consider the popular hybrid cars in Japan as dangerous.

The Japanese government has formed a team of experts, vision impaired, police, representatives from the auto industry, and consumers to discuss the best solution to the problem. So far, it has been a consensus that a sound making gadget be added to the hybrids.

Lotus has developed a technology coined Safe and Sound which uses speakers and microphones to make sure that people outside will hear the vehicle coming. The advanced system still allows for a quiet ride for the occupants of the vehicle.
No hybrid vehicle has utilized this feature so far.

PONTIAC SILVERDOME DEMOLISHED ON 2ND ATTEMPT

The second attempt at a partial implosion of the Pontiac Silverdome was a success just after 4 p.m. on Monday, more than a day after the first attempt was a failure. According to Adamo, the demolition company tasked with the implosion, eight charges disconnected -- preventing the fall of the Silverdome on Sunday morning. "We had a lot of difficulty getting people out of here the other night...we don't know if someone accidentally pulled the wire off. We don't know, we're still researching that," said Adamo Executive Vice President Rick Cuppetilli. Monday's explosion seemed to be much larger, and sent the upper level of the Silverdome crumbling to the ground.
