BLEEDING HANDS AKA SINGER/SONGWRITER ANDY HUGHES

"Bleeding Hands (or Andy Hughes to his mum), Macclesfield-based veteran of many an open-mic night who's happy to pitch up pretty much anywhere with an acoustic guitar and a heart full of stories. His rough, lived-in voice recalls Dylan, Tom Waits and traditional Northern folk heritage; the songs are from a similar background with a hint of Noel Gallagher's more poignant acoustic moments. This is the sort of music that would sound like the best thing in the world sat around a fire in a lovely old pub up on the moors - but it sounds pretty fine in a city centre basement too."

MICHIGAN ELVIS FEST JULY 11-12 2014 RIVERSIDE PARK!

This is the 15th consecutive year that Ypsilanti has hosted the Michigan Elvis Fest. The event features spectacular performances of Elvis tribute artists on the banks of the Huron River in Riverside Park. This is not a contest, but rather a true concert with tribute artists from throughout the country descending on Ypsilanti elvis for the best and largest tribute concert in North America.

The event is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., and is one of only a handful to be given this distinction. Eleven Elvis tribute artists will be in attendance, as will tribute artists for Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Tom Jones, Richie Valens, and, of course, The Blues Brothers. Ticket information and a complete schedule of events can be found at www.mielvisfest.org.

HELP SAVE THE IRISH HILLS TOWERS OF MICHIGAN!

The Twin Towers of the Irish Hills in Onsted Michigan were the gateway to summer fun for children...As a kid we occasionally got to ride 45 minutes west of my home to the Irish Hills which meant we were going to see and do some pretty cool things.  There was Frontier Village, Go Carts, a Super Slide, Wampler's Lake, Mystery Hill and even Prehistoric creatures lurking nearby.

Looking back, the attractions were kind of hokey but it was so exciting to glimpse the big Towers..just around the bend from Hayes State Park and swimming in Wampler's lake! In my later years I spent a lot of my summer weekends watching the car races at Michigan Speedway...drove past the Twin Towers a lot and looking at them still brings joy to me!

Irish Hills Towers

8433 U.S. 12

Onsted, MI 49265

Until today when I read that the towers maybe demolished if the funds aren't raised to save them, I knew very little about their history. How depressing for the children...I saw the towers beginning in the early 1960s and my daughter loved seeing them beginning in the late 1990s. When I see them even today...my spirits lift and I get that feeling of impending FUN is about to happen! We must help save the IRISH HILLS TWIN TOWERS..

What we can do to help is donate any amount to the save the Towers group...every little bit matters...

In the early 1920s, the Michigan Observation Company sought places of high elevation to erect 50-foot-high (15 m) enclosed platforms to boost tourism. In southern Michigan, a tower was placed atop Bundy Hill in Hillsdale County and officials sought a knoll in the heart of the Irish Hills in Lenawee County.

A farmer who owned half of the knoll, Edward Kelly, turned down the company's offer to purchase his portion of the land. The adjoining land owner, Thomas Brighton consented to the sale of his plat, and construction of the Irish Hills Observatory commenced.

The opening of the Irish Hills Observatory was announced by The Brooklyn Exponent in September 1924. In a gala celebration on October 4 and October 5, hundreds of people ascended the hill and tower to gaze upon the rolling landscape and crystal blue lakes in all directions.

Kelly seemed spited by the exploitation of the MOCs venture, and protested by erecting his own tower. By the end of November, 1924, his own observation platform was in place, just feet away from the MOCs structure, and several feet higher.

The Michigan Observation Company responded by adding a second observation enclosure to the top of its own facilities, now designated as the Original Irish Hills Tower. Kelly proceeded to add a raised platform to his "Gray" tower (named as such because of its gray-painted exterior), an act which brought the two edifices to an even height.

The MOC informed Kelly that if he attempted to compete with more height given to his tower, they would tear down their own and construct a metal observatory so large that Kelly's efforts would be nullified. He conceded, and turned his efforts instead to drawing more revenue to his creation.

The Irish Hills Towers operated as separate and competitive entities through the 1950s, when Frank Lamping acquired both and connected them with a gift shop at the ground floor. They briefly closed in the late 1960s, and refurbished in 1972 by Allen Good. They were given new observation platforms and as a result attained a near identical look.
The Irish Hills Towers closed to the public at the end the summer of 2000.

Irish Hills Historical Society officials need to shore up thousands of dollars before Aug. 1, or the historic twin towers overlooking U.S. 12 will be demolished, by order of Cambridge Township officials and inspectors.

TWO OF SWORDS: OPINION AND BLIND INSTINCT

Two of Swords by *Elric2012 on deviantART

The swords the woman holds can be used to cut her ties that blind her, or to continue keeping her chest covered (thus closing her to the world). The choice is hers.

The Two of Swords card suggests that my power today lies in opinion or blind instinct. 'I just know it.' My perceptions are sharp, balanced and reasonable and guide my decision or support a position free from momentary distraction or impulse. I honor my authentic self when I choose to protect emotional vulnerabilities without compromising virtue, reputation, or principles. I practice self control but I know that denial can't hide truth forever. 'Once bitten, twice shy.' I am empowered by the status quo and my virtue is justification.

PAGE OF SWORDS: TRUTH AND HONESTY

The Page of Swords shows a young man standing in the midst of rough terrain with a sword held in both hands. The sky is filled with turbulent clouds and the trees in the background are obviously wind-blown, as is the young man’s hair. The waters behind the Page are rough and the general feeling of this card is one of tumultuous energy.

The Page of Swords reflects an abundance of energy, passion and enthusiasm. You cannot wait to get started on a new project or an idea, and to share that with others. You start all new projects, ventures and journeys with a huge amount of energy and excitement. The challenge, however, is whether you can keep it up! As with all Pages, the beginning always looks promising but something else is needed in order to maintain the pace.
The Page of Swords is almost like a green light to say, “Go for it”.

WHAT IS TILTED AXES DETROIT 313?

What is Tilted Axes? It is a body of musical works that are performed as a procession by approximately 30 guitarists with portable mini-amps worn by each performer. They are accompanied by drums and percussion and are led by standard-bearers holding a banner.

The ensemble, whether in NYC, Detroit, or Europe, is made up of local musicians, in this case, musicians from the greater Detroit area, who receive the music and improvisational structures that Patrick Grant creates in advance via MP3s and PDF files.

They workshop and rehearse days prior to the event, customizing it and adapting it to the nature of the ensemble and to the requirements of the event and its featured performers.

For this year, the Detroit Historical Society has asked Patrick to bring the project back to Detroit to celebrate the city’s 313th anniversary on July 19th. Dubbed “Tilted Axes: Detroit (313),” the event is in three parts; the first starts at the Detroit Historical Museum, 5401 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI at 1:00pm.

It consists of a procession through Midtown Detroit with stops at various locations (the DIA, the Science Museum, etc.). A detailed map of the procession route can be seen HERE.

R&B LEGEND BOBBY WOMACK PASSED AWAY

Bobby Womack, a colorful and highly influential R&B singer-songwriter who influenced artists from the Rolling Stones to Damon Albarn, has died. He was 70.

Womack’s publicist Sonya Kolowrat said Friday that the singer had died, but she could provide no other details.

With an incomparable voice few could match, Womack was a stirring singer and guitarist in his own right and a powerful songwriter whose hits like “Across 110th Street,” ”If You Think You’re Lonely Now” and “I Wish He Didn’t Trust Me So Much” captured the imagination of future stars in rock ‘n’ roll and R&B.

Robert Dwayne "Bobby" Womack (March 4, 1944 − June 27, 2014) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. An active recording artist since the early 1960s, when he started his career as the lead singer of his family musical group the Valentinos and as Sam Cooke's backing guitarist, Womack's career spanned more than 50 years and spanned a repertoire in the styles of R&B, soul, rock and roll, doo-wop, gospel, and country. **NEW** JASON BERK: COMING HOME

Jason sent me a lovely email and I really like his music...take a look and listen :)

From Jason: My new album is called Coming Home and is, well, pretty ‘retro'! Clear influences of The Beatles, Marshall Crenshaw, Elvis Costello, The Mamas & The Papas, Sly & The Family Stone, and Joe Jackson, plus the overall Laurel Canyon sound. This is my second release; my first, Real Love, was hailed by fans and critics, including San Francisco DJs Rosalie Howarth (KFOG) and Steven Seaweed (107.7 The Bone), plus Maui-based host of the syndicated “The Time Machine” radio show, Michael McCartney.

Other fans include “Ghostbusters” performer Ray Parker Jr., former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber (as well as his wife Hope, daughter of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and ‘Brady Bunch’ creator Sherwood Schwartz), 60’s singer-songwriter Evie Sands, Keith Slettedahl of The 88, and members of legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s backing band.

SEVEN OF WANDS: PERSISTENCE AND VICTORY

The Seven of Wands card suggests that my power today lies in seizing the day. I step in, recognize, or create opportunities to take it to the next level and communicate leadership or earn respect through performance. I am empowered to rise to the occasion by a window of opportunity and I transform through motivation.

Keywords: Courage, persistence, victory, opposition, integrity.

With the power of conviction radiating from within, Beam bears the courage to remain true to his own constructive ambitions. The desperately mundane townsfolk do not approve of his creativity, but Beam refuses to back down. He strives to defend the opportunity to make his dreams come true, no matter what others think. Over great odds, he shall triumph.

Stand your ground, and never surrender! Be a leader by going forth with fortitude, and defend that which you love. Be prepared to meet any challenge that come your way. Remain true to what you believe in and hold on to your unique vision. Let your integrity guide you, and victory shall be close at hand.

Reversed: Being taken advantage of. Feelings of inadequacy. Quarreling.

NINE OF WANDS: RESOLVE AND DETERMINATION

The Nine of Wands shows a weary, injured man who holds a staff as though in a posture of final defence. He has fought the battle and won. He is protected by a number of wands behind him that appear like a wall around him. He appears drained and exhausted as he leans on his wand but he is ready to go to battle again. He has the look of determination in his eye to overcome this final challenge and reach a point of accomplishment and victory. He stands up for what he believes in and holds firm in those beliefs.

THE MADDEN BROTHERS NEW RELEASE HAS RETRO SOUND

Benji and Joel Madden have a new cd coming out and it is simply named “The Madden Brothers”. I really like the sound. "We Are Done" has Retro sound and serious lyrics, not at all what I expected. Absolutely nothing like when they were in Good Charlotte

Follow The Madden Brothers:

KATIE GARIBALDI NEW RELEASE FOLLOW YOUR HEART

We really loved Katie's  Next Ride Out album and we can't wait to hear this very talented singer songwriter's next lp....

Happy to announce the release of Katie Garibaldi's seventh full-length album FOLLOW YOUR HEART). Katie sings with an emotional resonance that, combined with her catchy melodic songs and her soulfully expressive vocals, captures her audience wherever she performs.

While she’s been compared to household names such as Sheryl Crow, Jewel, and Taylor Swift, Katie has a charismatic musical style all her own wherein her equally pop- and country-tinged folk-rock gives her a distinct and edgy sound—Americana with sparkling and memorable melodies.

This new album, Follow Your Heart, was recorded at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone Recording Studios in San Francisco, CA, and engineered by Ian Pellicci. The band includes Katie Garibaldi on vocals and acoustic guitar (as well as writer and producer of the entire album), Memphis-based Kevin Blair on electric and upright acoustic bass, and Bay Area local Todd Richardson on drums and percussion. Magik*Magik Orchestra also makes an appearance on the album, which features Michelle Kwon (The Delphi Trio) on cello and Philip Brezina (Brothers Comatose) on violin.

Katie was fortunate to have the opportunity to co-write and arrange the string sections with Magik*Magik Orchestra artistic director, Minna Choi. Other notable players include Max Butler (pedal steel, mandolin, and ukulele), Sylvain Carton (flute, clarinets, and saxophones), Henry Hung (trumpet, trombone), Matt Blackett (electric guitar), and Shawn Shaffer (harmonica). Follow Your Heart contains 13 new tracks, which include her most personal recorded songs to date, all of which hearken back to her simple yet powerful message about the importance of having the conviction to follow your heart.

Follow Your Heart is Katie’s first full-length release of all new compositions since her award winning Next Ride Out album in 2009. In that time, the Americana songstress has toured the country and accomplished many exciting achievements, including being named a Music Connection Magazine Top 100 Live Unsigned Artist and being featured on the cover of The Indie Bible four different times.

Most notably, Katie received the Songwriter of the Year award in 2012 from Songsalive!, the largest international non-profit membership organization and social community for songwriters and composers.

Follow Your Heart will be released worldwide in stores and online July 15th, 2014. Katie will headline a CD Release party on July 12th at Neck Of The Woods, located at 406 Clement Street in San Francisco, with special guests Mike Annuzzi and The Devil’s Chord opening.

Katie then heads to Nashville for several shows, including a performance at her sponsor’s store, Two Old Hippies, and at the summer 2014 NAMM event. Late summer and fall tour dates will also be announced on her website in the next few weeks.

Follow Your Heart will be released Direct-to-Fans via Katie’s website on Tuesday July 1st, 2014, and Digitally and Physically worldwide on July 15th, 2014.

Visit Katie’s Website or Social Media pages for more information about the album and future tour dates. www.katiegaribaldi.com
