GRAND FUNK'S SHININ ON NOW IN 3D ART PACKAGE!

Audio Fidelity To Release Grand Funk's Shinin' On in Original 3-D Art Package on Limited Edition Hybrid SACD

Includes a BONUS pair of 3-D Glasses!

Camarillo, CA - Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Grand Funk's widely popular classic rock album Shinin' On on limited edition hybrid SACD. Riding high off the success of their 1973 We're An American Band hit album and tour Grand Funk retained the extraordinary Todd Rundgren to produce Shinin' On, the band's eighth album.

Don Brewer, Mark Farner, Mel Schacher and Craig Frost took the band to another level. The songs are tight, the vocals are excellent and the group is in top form. Shinin' On is pure Grand Funk and considered a favorite among many fans and critics.

Shinin' On's best songs are the tracks that became the hit single releases: the SACD opens with the dynamic title track augmented by Craig Frost's keyboard work and pumped-up behind Don Brewer’s aggressive vocals the track infuses its hard-driving, spacey rock groove with some surprisingly ethereal vocal harmonies. The cover of the Carole King and Gerry Goffin penned “The Loco-Motion” turned this dance classic on its ear with a stomping beat and a screeching guitar lead from Mark Farner that shot the chuggin' pop remake straight to #1 on the Billboard singles chart and helped drive gigantic album sales.

Closing-out the album is Grand Funk's amped-up blues rocker “Little Johnny Hooker” which features Farner's powerful and driving guitar work.

The original album was packaged in a cosmic 3-D sleeve that had a pair of 3-D glasses embedded in the front cover to best appreciate the dramatic art work. Each Audio Fidelity Shinin' On SACD slip case will include a pair of 3-D glasses so the brilliant art work can be viewed as originally intended.

Another legendary hard-rocking album from Mark, Don, Mel and Craig – Grand Funk! So pump up the volume, break out those classic 3-D glasses and keep on shinin' on!

GRAND FUNK AT THE ATLANTA POP FESTIVAL IN 1969

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD

Story tonight for my pr pal Billy James....

On the 4th of July a bunch of us Army brats grabbed a car and made our way from Ft. Benning GA to a raceway 20 miles south of Atlanta...not very far...we had 1 day planned out as we were so young and failed to alert our parents of our idea.... I was 14 my friend Brian the driver was 16. My best friend Cindy and her friend Kevin rounded out our group.  Cindy was a Martha Stewart type....We had 2 big coolers full of cans of pop, water, snacks and ice. Thankfully there was 4 of us to carry these things.

We left really early in the morning like 630a and got to our location in 3 hours.  Quite a traffic jam getting into the track. We finally got in and found a really good spot...not far from the stage and close to porta johns....I remember very little now except for it being very hot and how I felt when an unknown band from Michigan took the stage and blew the crowd away..the band was GRAND FUNK RAILROAD

We had heard so much loud music already but when GFR took the stage the world stood still...then the joy spread all over the audience. No politics, no war, no more British invasion pop...this was American Rock and it shook us kids to our soul..especially for me being from Ypsilanti, MI and hearing Michigan music in GA...I was so homesick for Detroit music...I teared up just remembering how good Grand funk made me feel...and they still do...

This video was filmed in Texas and the ATL gig was just before but they looked very similar...for history's sake  ATL was 4th of July and TX was Labor Day 1969

The first Atlanta International Pop Festival was a rock festival held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, Georgia, twenty miles south of Atlanta, on the July Fourth (Friday) weekend, 1969, more than a month before Woodstock. Crowd estimates ranged from the high tens of thousands to as high as 150,000.

With temperatures nearing a hundred degrees, local fire departments used fire hoses to create "sprinklers" for the crowd to play in and cool off. It was a peaceful, energetic, hot and loud festival with few (if any) problems other than heat related. Concession stands were woefully inadequate. Attendees frequently stood in line for an hour to get a soft drink.

SUPERSTARS OF CLASSIC ROCK HONOR THE LEGACY OF THE DOORS

Superstars Of Classic Rock Honor The Music & Legacy Of The Doors Feat. Members of Deep Purple, Foreigner, Yes, Rainbow, Mountain, Moody Blues, ELP and Others!

Featuring Todd Rundgren, Ian Gillan, Edgar Winter, Steve Morse, David Johansen, Larry Coryell, Mark Farner, Patrick Moraz, Mick Box, Keith Emerson, Lou Gramm, Leslie West, Thijs Van Leer, Steve Cropper, Rick Wakeman, Roye Albrighton, Nik Turner, Billy Sherwood, Steve Hillage, Zoot Horn Rollo and Others!

Los Angeles, CA - A star-studded syndicate of rock virtuosos have gathered together to pay tribute to one of the best loved and most influential bands of all-time, The Doors, on a new CD release titled Light My Fire - A Classic Rock Salute To The Doors to be released by Purple Pyramid Records on June 24th! Produced by the extraordinarily talented Billy Sherwood, the album features brand new interpretations of classic Doors cuts that defined an entire generation, songs such as “Light My Fire,” “Riders On The Storm,” “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “Love Her Madly,” “L.A. Woman,” “People Are Strange,” and lots more!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear some of The Doors’ peers and prodigies tackle these seminal songs. Not one but TWO members of the quintessential prog rock band Yes, keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman and lead guitarist Steve Howe, joined Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan on the signature song, “Light My Fire,” which as Wakeman explains, “has always been one of those iconic tracks that keyboard players listen to because of the fact that there are so few tracks with keyboard/organ solos on them compared to our six-stringed buddies.

It’s also a solo area that is totally open to interpretation so whatever you do is not comparable to the original, so it was an absolute joy to do.” Howe likewise enthuses, “I was delighted to play on this album as The Doors were a band I heard a lot as everywhere I went in the late ‘60s their music was playing, at friend’s, in restaurants, gigs & bars throughout London. I’m sure I saw them play at Middle Earth, a then hip club. Then, when the reissue more recently came out, I got totally back into their music, especially ‘Light My Fire.’”

Another keyboard legend, Geoff Downes, likewise extolled the genius of Doors’ organist Ray Manzarek saying, “It was a real privilege to be asked to participate in this project. Ray Manzarek was one of the pioneers of keyboard playing in rock music, and had a major influence on me and many others. His style was totally unique, and an integral element into what made The Doors sound the way they did.”

1. L.A. Woman - Jimi Jamison (Survivor), Ted Turner (Wishbone Ash) & Patrick Moraz (Moody Blues)
2. Love Me Two Times - Lou Gramm (Foreigner), Thijs van Leer (Focus) & Larry Coryell
3. Roadhouse Blues - Leslie West (Mountain), Brian Auger & Rod Piazza
4. Love Her Madly - Mark Stein (Vanilla Fudge) & Mick Box (Uriah Heep)

7. Intro (People Are Strange) - Keith Emerson, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter & Joel Druckman (John Fahey)
8. People Are Strange - David Johansen (NY Dolls) & Billy Sherwood (Yes)
9. Touch Me - Robert Gordon, Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Steve Morse & Nik Turner (Hawkwind)

Watch for Mark Farner on Fox TV’s Huckabee January 15 and 16

(New York, NY) – The entertainment industry at large has long been a leader in helping those in need with benefit concerts and charity events. On Monday January 17, 2011 at B. B. Kings in New York City, rock legends will join together in support of Jesse Farner as he struggles to recuperate from a severe neck injury after a fall last summer. The concert will be held in conjunction with the New York Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp festivities and will include rock legends participating in the camp plus the Kryptonite rock of 3 Doors Down.

Jesse Farner is the twenty-one year old son of rock’s legendary frontman Mark Farner and his wife Lesia. Mark Farner is best known as founding member/lead singer/guitarist/songwriter of Grand Funk Railroad, the band that sold out Shea Stadium faster than The Beatles and sold over 50 million records worldwide.

When hearing of Jesse Farner’s plight from Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp founder, David Fishof, Roger Daltrey of The Who stepped up immediately in support of the family.

“I’m humbled to be able to help Jesse and the Farners in any way I can,” began Daltrey. “We are all very fortunate, in our business, to be able to give back. And sometimes circumstances demand that we give back to our brothers and sisters in the rock and roll business. Rock for Jesse calls us to do just that for our friends the Farner family,” he concluded.

Mark Farner commented on Daltrey’s participation stating, “Roger is a man’s man with a good heart and that means more to me than anything either of us has accomplished in music. On behalf of our son Jesse and family, the Farner’s extend our gratitude to Roger and his family, Cliff Williams of AC/DC, 3 Doors Down, Kip Winger and our friends and fans in rock and roll.”

Tickets for the event are available through Ticketmaster. Included in ticket price (early VIP seating, meet and greet with Mark Farner and friends). Tickets for the benefit are $300 www.ticketmaster.com Donations can be made directly by visiting www.sweetrelief.org For Information on Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp www.rockcamp.com

WHO STOLE MARK FARNER'S PARKER FLY GUITAR??

MISSING Mark Farner's Parker Fly (Tiger Striped)

Mark Farner's "Tiger" striped Parker-Fly guitar is missing or rather it's been stolen from Mark's dressing room at the Chicago's House Of Blues November 21st at 329 North Dearborn St. Chicago IL 60654

The tiger-striped Parker wasn't Mark's primary guitar but it was so unique. It went missing from Mark's dressing room Sunday night after the Rock Fantasy Camp finale.

Mark is really saddened by this loss. 2010 was a very tough year on the Farner family with the injury of Lesia and Mark's son Jesse (Prayers for Jesse Farner) and now this major insult. This thief plain infuriates me. Where do they think they are going to sell this legendary guitar?

So let's all keep our eyes open for Mark's Parker Fly online or on Ebay or anywhere else for sale. Share these above photos of it... so we can stop this creepy person(s) who committed this crime. Mucho bad Kharma to whomever they are....

*** UPDATE***

Jesse Fredrick Farner
September 27,1988 – July 4, 2018

Read his Obituary Here

Jesse gained his Independence back after his long Earthly journey came to an end the night of July 4th. To us, his family, he was the bravest soul we’ve ever had the privilege of loving. He was a Son, a Brother, a Friend and a Comrade to many. His absence of Body leaves a big void but…
His Spirit lives strong in our hearts.

LATEST JESSE PROGRESS UPDATE

We are overwhelmed by all the love, support and prayers for our son Jesse from all around the world. On July 3rd 2010 Jes took a bad fall and is very lucky to be alive. He remains in intensive care and is making good progress. Our sincere appreciation for all the love coming our way. Please continue to pray for Jesse as he works toward a full recovery.

We love you all, Mark & Lesia
