KIMMER'S FAVORITE GIFT! PICTEK RAINBOW BACKLIT KEYBOARD/MOUSE COMBO

What to buy for a nighttime blogger? A rainbow backlit keyboard and mouse! My top gift I have received for Christmas! It is amazing and fun for the gamers out there but it is also great to be able to type in a dark room, which I do all the time. Used to have to turn on a lamp or a glaring over head room light. Now I just tap the keyboard and it comes to life!

The keyboard stays lit while you are using it and turns itself off after a few minutes of idle. That is a good feature as it is bright!  Brightness modes you can choose: bright, sort of bright, and not so bright using the keyboard shortcut Escape/Function

The set is wired and very affordable!

*NEW* HTC ANNOUNCES NEW SQUEEZE PHONE TECHNOLOGY

THE VERGE: HTC is announcing its newest smartphone today, the U11 flagship. The U11 is the successor to last year’s HTC 10, and has a 5.5-inch, Quad HD display, Snapdragon 835 processor, and new glass and metal design. HTC is also introducing a new way to interact with the U11 by letting you squeeze the sides of the device to perform different functions.

This new feature is called “Edge Sense,” and it can be configured to do a variety of tasks with either short or long squeezes. You can set a short squeeze to open the camera and then take a picture when the camera app is open. A long squeeze can be configured to launch the Google voice assistant or toggle the flashlight on and off.

Squeezing your phone to do things that you’re used to using a touchscreen for is an odd experience, and HTC is starting out slowly with this implementation. Nigel Newby-House, the vice president of product planning for HTC America, says that the company hopes to introduce people to this new experience with the U11 and it will expand the Edge Sense features in the future once we’re all used to gorilla gripping the sides of our phones to do things.

The experience of squeezing the phone is a little unsettling at first and definitely takes some getting used to. The phone doesn’t actually flex when you do this — the metal sides have pressure sensors just below the volume and power keys — but there is an on-screen cue when you’re activating the feature. It’s designed to make it easier to do basic tasks single-handedly, and given the U11’s expanded display dimensions, any assistance when using the phone with one hand is appreciated.

GM TO OFFER IN VEHICLE DATA WIRELESS PLANS!

This is good news for traveling and people who work in the field....but isn't this going to really make it worse for the driver talking/texting distraction problem?

FREEP  Buyers of new General Motors vehicles will soon have the option of connecting laptops, smartphones and tablets to wireless hotspots for an extra monthly charge.

The automaker revealed the pricing structure today for high-speed AT&T Internet packages in more than 30 of its 2015 model-year vehicles in the U.S. OnStar subscribers can get AT&T 4G LTE packages for as little as $5 per month, GM said.

Someone who doesn’t subscribe to GM’s OnStar service, which provides safety and security services, can pay anywhere from $10 per month for 200 megabytes of data to $50 per month for five gigabytes of data.

“Our customers will also have easy-to-understand data plans to let them tailor a connected car around each owner’s lifestyle,” said Mary Chan, OnStar president.

GM is the first automaker to introduce high-speed Internet capability to a majority of its vehicles. FULL STORY

POLAROID SOCIAL-MATIC TOO LITTLE TOO LATE?

The Polaroid Social-Matic  camers is coming out fall of 2014. This camera features all the same things that smart phones already have except it has a better resolution (14 megapixels) and prints instant photo/stickers. You can edit and add clipart/captions before sharing online which could be fun.

The problem is ..it is another device to carry...put down your smart phone and grab the social-matic? Prying the smart phone out of a user's hands is mostly impossible..

The only way that I can see this camera having any impact is if it was a smart phone...but you already have one of those.

To me is too little, too late...

THE GLOBAL VILLAGE: POWER TO THE PEOPLE...

While chatting with my friend John last night, we discussed the benefits that Facebook has brought to this world. No matter what irritates us about our loss of privacy or suffering through thousands of inane posts about what somebody had for breakfast.. the truth is communication is POWER...

Before Facebook the people were able to just read stories and post comments (letters to the editor)..Now WE all can create news, organize groups and fight "city hall"...

One of my college professors taught me about  Marshall McLuhan's Global Village that would one day be the state of this Earth. The internet gave us the tools and Mark Zuckerberg made communicating user friendly for all...to me the BEST is yet to come.

Yes the bad guys are using our advanced technology to further their dark agendas. But we need to stay focused on using these gifts to save this world. We all have the power within us to help.

I no longer feel hopeless about the state of affairs in my home town, state, country or planet. Power to the people has arrived... So thank you Mark Zuckerberg for uniting the generations online....xK
