DAVID NAIL AND THE WELL RAVENS NEW RELEASE!

David Nail and The Well Ravens
Release Rock-Tinged New Song
"Come Back Around"

Debut Album
Only This And Nothing More
Out On September 14th

Chart-topping songwriter and Grammy-nominated artist David Nail has spent the last decade leaving his unique mark on modern country music. Now he begins a new chapter with his collective new project called David Nail and The Well Ravens who's debut album Only This and Nothing More will release on September 14th via One Five Sound.

The project is Nail's first independent release and finds the charismatic singer reaching a new creative peak with a record that matches his adept melodic chops - as heard on #1 hits like "Whatever She's Got" and "Let It Rain" - with atmospheric rock & roll guitars, lush keyboards, drum loops, and rule-breaking arrangements. Today he released his "rock-tinged" new song "Come Back Around" which debuted on People Magazine.

Stream via Spotify and Apple Music

"'Come Back Around' was one of the songs we started, and then sorta felt like we had established a consistency to what we were doing from session to session," David told People. "We ended up more or less rebuilding it from the ground up months later, but initially, I think we all knew the melody was pretty solid, and the potential was endless."

Only This and Nothing More straddles the boundary between country storytelling, indie rock instrumentation, and southern twang. Nail and The Well Ravens has allowed David to expand his sound inspired not only by his country roots, but also the reverb-heavy wash of Ryan Adams, the rhythmic punch of the Black Keys, and the anthemic swell of Kings of Leon. Billed not as a solo album, but as a collaboration, he enlisted help from two longtime partners; multi-instrumentalist Andrew Petroff and producer Jason Hall.

Track List:
01) The Gun
02) Come Back Around
03) White Trash Girl
04) Cheating On Me
05) Over
06) Heavy
07) In My Head

Of the project, Billboard recently stated "David Nail - who is known as one of the more distinctive talents in Music City today - returns with one of his most musically adventurous projects yet."

Watch the video for lead single "Heavy" HERE.

Earlier this month, David released "In My Head" and spoke with Taste of Country about the song's poignant and honest origin.

Over the course of three different recording sessions, Nail, Petroff, and Hall created tracks like "Cheatin' on Me," a waltzing ballad that's retro and modern; "Over," a gritty nod to the British Invasion bands of the 1990's; "Heavy," which updates the sounds of the '80's pop/rock for the current decade; and "The Gun," the album's most haunting number, rooted in a fictional story about family violence.

The result is Nail's boldest work to date which Rolling Stone Country described as "atmospheric rock sounds that wouldn't be out of place on a late-Nineties Oasis album." With one foot planted in the organic sound of his country past and the other pointing toward newer territory, he shows off the full range of his abilities. He's a country crooner one moment, an indie rocker the next, and a diversely compelling frontman throughout. Most importantly, he's an artist following his muse, making music without rules or regulations.

DETROIT JAZZ FEST HISTORY
The Detroit International Jazz Festival was founded in 1980 by Robert McCabe and the Detroit Renaissance. Along with the Detroit Grand Prix and the International Freedom Festival, the Festival was intended to bring people into the city and to provide all segments of the population with world-class entertainment.

From 1980 to 1991, the Festival flourished through a partnership with the highly regarded international jazz festival in Montreux, Switzerland. In 1991, the Festival merged with Detroit’s Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, where it resided until September 2005.

In March 2005, Detroit philanthropist and Mack Avenue Records Chairman Gretchen Valade emerged as a major sponsor of the Festival. With additional support from the Knight Foundation, the Festival expanded in all aspects. Its new footprint, covering three blocks, provided two additional stages and more space for food vendors and other activities.

Looking to attract new audiences to jazz and the Festival, in 2011, jazz musician Chris Collins was appointed as artistic director and has since taken on the role of president of the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation. With Collins’ vision and the support of the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation Board of Directors – led by Chair Gretchen Valade – the Foundation has continued to integrate new and exciting artistic elements and opportunities into the signature event, in addition to year-round programming.

THE MINI COMPACT CAR BEGAN IT'S LONG RUN AUG 26 1959

On this day in 1959, the British Motor Corporation (BMC) launches its newest car, the small, affordable–at a price tag of less than $800–Mark I Mini. The diminutive Mini went on to become one of the best-selling British cars in history.

The story behind the Mini began in August 1956, when President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal in response to the American and British decision to withdraw funding for a new dam’s construction due to Egypt’s Communist ties. The international crisis that followed led to fuel shortages and gasoline rationing across Europe. Sir Leonard Lord, head of BMC–formed by the merger of automakers Austin and Morris in 1952–wanted to produce a British alternative to the tiny, fuel-efficient German cars that were cornering the market after the Suez Crisis.

He turned to Alec Issigonis, a Turkish immigrant who as chief engineer at Morris Motors had produced the Morris Minor, a teapot-shaped cult favorite that had nonetheless never seriously competed with the Volkswagen “Beetle” or Fiat’s 500 or Cinquecento.

Mini development began in 1957 and took place under a veil of secrecy; the project was known only as ADO (for Austin Drawing Office) 15. After about two and a half years–a relatively short design period–the new car was ready for the approval of Lord, who immediately signed off on its production.

Launched on August 26, 1959, the new front-wheel-drive car was priced at around $800 and marketed under two names: Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor. The two vehicles were the same except for each had a different radiator grille, and by 1962 both were known simply as the Mini. Issigonis’ design, including an engine mounted sideways to take up less space, had created a surprising amount of space for a small-bodied car: At only 10 feet long, the Mini could sit four adults, and had a trunk big enough for a reasonable amount of luggage.

Mini Station Wagon

With a starting price of around $800, the Mini was truly a “people’s car,” but its popularity transcended class, and it was also used by affluent Londoners as a second car to easily maneuver in city traffic.

By the time production was halted in 2000, 5.3 million Minis had been produced. Around that same time, a panel of 130 international journalists voted the Mini “European Car of the Century.”

Mini Cooper 2018

A high-performance version of the Mini engineered by the race car builder John Cooper had first been released in 1961; known as the Mini Cooper, it became one of the favorites of Mini enthusiasts worldwide. In 2003, the Mini Cooper was updated for a new generation of buyers by the German automaker BMW. READ MORE

KANDACE SPRINGS RELEASES GORGEOUS NEW SINGLE "6 8"

Kandace Springs has released “6 8,” a sublime remake of Gabriel Garzón-Montano's gorgeous ballad that is molasses slow and crystalline pretty. Kandace’s sensual vocals and chiming piano intertwine with Elena Pinderhughes’ ethereal flute and float above Burniss Travis II’s bass and Karriem Riggins’ drums. Watch the video for “6 8” here.

The song follows the single “Don’t Need The Real Thing,” both of which appear on Kandace’s remarkable second album Indigo, a 13-track LP of originals and choice covers that will be released September 7 on Blue Note Records. The album showcases the full breadth of Kandace’s artistry with songs that swirl classical composition with quiet-storm cool, jazz poise with hip-hop swing, tropical warmth with soulful depth, and earthen groove with airy psych.

All but two tracks are produced by Riggins (Common, Erykah Badu) with additional production by Jamie Hartman (Rag'n'Bone Man), Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, P!nk), and Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken (Rihanna).

Given the diverse palette, Karriem was exactly the right person to work with Kandace to catalyze the best parts of various interests into something new. “I love crossing genres and the direction on Indigo was to marry all the different things to tell her story,” says Karriem, who tracked his drums at various studios while on the road with Diana Krall, and chopped and reassembled his and Kandace's recordings into what you hear. “It sounds organic because everything was built around the songwriting. She says so much on the piano, and her voice is amazing—it's the focal point of the whole sound.”

Kandace will embark on a U.S. headline tour beginning September 28 that includes album release shows in Los Angeles (Troubadour, October 1), New York (Sony Hall, October 28), and a hometown Nashville show (City Winery, November 4), followed by performances in Europe and Asia.
