We have a guest post today from the best looking DJ in retro rock history! Jim "Bad Boy" Baade who is also a superb Rock Radio filmmaker.

Flint’s Best Rock was a passion project I made while taking a filmmaking class at Mott Community College in 2012. I didn’t realize the movie would resonate with so many people, but it did and that just blew me away. The film recounts the glory days of WWCK, an Album Rock powerhouse in the ’80s that went to become the Best Rock Station in America according to Billboard Magazine!!

It wasn’t corporate radio, but true radio- when radio had a lot of power! I wanted to be as honest and intelligent as I could in telling the story about something I loved and was a big part of... and it kinda sent shockwaves both locally and nationally to an extent. It won Best Doc at the Flint Film Festival and was elected to be in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Local DJ was a tribute to my mentor and true Rock n’ Roll Hero - Peter C Cavanaugh!! It was my highest professional honor to have Pete endorse and love my film.

BBC NEEDS THE CLASH FANS FOR NEW INTERVIEW PROJECT!

THE CLASH

BBC Studios are currently producing a major project about The Clash and the punk movement, and are reaching out to fans.

The BBC project will consist of an 8 part podcast series, charting the journey of the band in great detail from beginning to end. But alongside the podcast there will be three short films showcasing some of the best archive of The Clash playing live. We’re therefore looking for fans who were at the following gigs and are willing to share their memories with them:

- Roxy New Year’s Day - January 1st 1977
- Munich, Schwabinger Brau - October 4th 1977
- Rock Against Racism, Victoria Park, London - April 30th 1978
- Glasgow Apollo - 4th July 1978
- Bonds Times Square gigs - May & June 1981
- Shea Stadium, New York with The Who - Oct 12th & 13th 1981

***They’re also keen now to find fans who were at the 16 Tons Tour in Scotland in early 1980 – there’s some fantastic BBC archive of those gigs from the Nationwide programme, with interviews with the fans.***

We would love to hear from fans whose lives were changed by the band. Do you have specific memories of hearing your first Clash record – was it a big deal, hearing their music for the first time, can you remember where you were, what was going on your life, and what emotions hearing their music sparked in you?

They’re looking for interesting anecdotes or experiences which might relate to the following themes:

- finding your favourite band and feeling like you’re hearing music for the first time - finally this is something that speaks to you
- the shock of early Punk
- the look and early fashion of punk
- the experience of punk from the suburbs
- the experience of being let into gigs for free or hanging with the band
- the band influencing or interacting with politics, class, gender and race - music with a message that you thought was important
- the band transcending punk and going mainstream - for good or bad - and breaking America
- what was it like hearing that various members had left the band, or when they split up.

JOHN WATERS FILM RETROSPECTIVE PLAYING THE STATE THEATER IN ANN ARBOR

The State Theater presents John Waters Film Series

The delightfully disgusting retrospective begins in October

Ann Arbor’s State Theatre is proud to present the film retrospective: Yours Truly, John Waters, a three-month celebration of the cult director’s most iconic features. In keeping with the legendary John Water’s career aesthetic, Senior Programmer Brian Hunter curated ten films that trend towards taboo and debauchery with playful sincerity. The series runs from October 7 to December 9, every Wednesday at 7 PM.

Waters, well known for breaking boundaries, writes films that revel in the world of bad taste. His first feature Pink Flamingos (1972) is considered one of the greatest gross-out movies of all time. The commercial success of Hairspray (1988) and films that followed solidified him as one of the greatest underground directors in American film history.

Fiercely independent, all of his films are shot on location in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Water’s early films featured a regular group of local friends turned actors, one of them being international drag queen icon, Divine, who Waters called his “close friend and fearless muse.”

The one film in the series not directed by Waters, I Am Divine, is a documentary about the life and career of Divine, aka Harris Glenn Milstead. I Am Divine won the 2013 Cinetopia International Film Festival Audience Award.

In addition to film-making, Waters has published a number of books and screenplays, including the New York Times bestsellers Role Models (2010) and Carsick (2014), and has shown his photographs and sculptures in galleries throughout the world.

Universal has optioned Evan Hughes' article investigating a legendary teen drug dealer, who was also working as an FBI informant

Universal has optioned true-crime story The Trials of White Boy Rick with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski attached to direct.

Journalist Evan Hughes wrote the article, which centers on Rick Wershe, a teen living in Detroit in the 1980s. He joined the ranks of the drug kingpins on the predominantly black East Side to become a prolific cocaine trafficker, going by the name "White Boy Rick."

Hughes' story uncovers the true identity of Wershe, who worked as an undercover informant for the FBI and DEA while simultaneously rising to become one of the biggest drug dealers in the city.

The story was first published by The Atavist, a publisher of original digital nonfiction, on Sept. 29. The site was founded by Evan Ratliff and Jefferson Rabb.
