MERRY CLAYTON TOOK ROCK N ROLL TO CHURCH

Merry Clayton is AMAZING!

Born in Gert Town, New Orleans, Louisiana, Clayton began her recording career in 1962 at the age of fourteen, singing "Who Can I Count On? (When I Can't Count on You)" as a duet with Bobby Darin.

A year later, she recorded the first version of "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)". I did not realize that Merry who played the alcohol challenged Maid in "Maid to Order" one of my favorite voices in rock... Merry sang the legendary female part on Gimme Shelter with the Rolling Stones.

Merry is one of the featured legends of the academy award nominated documentary 20 Feet From Stardom. We hope this one wins as these women deserve to be center stage forever in musical history! Just try and imagine what these many hit songs would have been had they not "gone to church" and had the excellent taste to hire Merry.....
