NEW PHOTOS AND VIDEO OF THE DAHLINGER FARM BY ROBERT MONAGHAN!

In 2012 RETROKIMMER posted a story about the Dahlinger estate and Evangeline Cote. I had never heard any of this before, and found it to be a fascinating if not sordid tale. Evangeline Cote was Henry Ford's mistress, and in short, this is the mansion he had built for her. My curiosity got the better of me, so with the help of Mr James McLean, we journeyed to Dearborn to try and find this forgotten gem.

EVANGELINE AND RAY DAHLINGER "FARM"

The Tudor-style main house had nine fireplaces, eight bathrooms, servants' quarters, and a refrigerated fur-storage vault. It was surrounded by a gatehouse, several barns, a blacksmith shop, a lake and skating house, quarter-mile and half-mile racetracks, a gardeners' house, a greenhouse, a boathouse, and a large garage. Henry had a hidden passageway built into it's staircase that went directly into Evangeline's bedroom.

Ford's generosity culminated in a gift of 150 acres situated just downriver from his own home on the River Rouge. This became the site for the Dahlinger estate in the late 1920s, a palatial property whose worth obviously surpassed the financial resources of its occupants.

The main house had a secret staircase. After entering a small, out-of-the-way room on the main floor, one could climb these stairs and emerge into Eve's bedroom suite upstairs without being observed.

Does anyone know who lives in the old house off of Ford Road? I would love to get a closer look but do not want to trespass.
