John C. Dahlinger Jr.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids police say the murder of a wealthy Grand Rapids man was not random. On Oct. 16, 56-year-old John Dahlinger was found dead in his home on Kreslin Drive NE, beaten and shot in the head.
Since then, those closest to Dahlinger have kept quiet. But now, for the first time, they're opening up to 24 Hour News 8, saying his life involved parties, gambling, women and drugs.
Police say the murder was personal and targeted, and they are trying to figure out who wanted Dahlinger dead and why.
"If you're living multiple lives, especially making efforts to conceal those aspects of those lives, it becomes much more difficult to nail that down and figure out what's going on," said Grand Rapids Police Lt. Pat Merrill.
Wouldn't appear that Johnny was very good at concealing his indiscretions...

...heard today that the bullet was removed from a dresser and also that all sheets were taken off the bed ! ? The company "Aftermath" did clean-up wearing hazmat suits. Poor Melanie; heard that she will still live there!
maybe she has nothing to fear?
Wish people would stop assuming. He was not wealthy and I doubt there were other women in his life. He had been with Melanie for a long time. Many owe the IRS and it's legal to gamble. I hope the truth finally comes out.
what speculating? what assumptions? his phone number and work address in emails from Match.Com or his tax liens as current as Oct 2013.. We are sorry for those victimized by this crime but perhaps this guy wasn't the wealthy good old boy people seem to think he was...hopefully the truth will come out..
He was not wealthy, and no matter what issues he had, he needed help. He was murdered, and there is no good reason for that
He needed help from his friends that knew this stuff. He was very ill, but didn't deserve what happened to him. He was not wealthy btw.
He needed help from people that loved him. These secrets were not that secret. He needed help to stop these behaviors because he couldn't stop himself. Not wealthy
Looks like we have finally come to the conclusion he was not wealthy and yes, no one deserves to be killed this way. This is very sad. Sounds like people are finally starting to talk, which is the only way to find out what happened. No one is murdered this way if he did not do anything wrong, since it wasn't a break-in. Have to feel bad for his Fiance and sons. Hope they find this awful person asap.
