Tonight Kris Kristofferson is receiving the Life Time Achievement award at the 2014 Grammy Awards. This will be a special night as Kris will be performing with country legends Merle Haggard Willie Nelson. Joining the trio will be hot new country star Blake Shelton.
Kris Kristofferson was a rock music fan and as such he was the guy who motivated his favorite musicians and friends to play in a rougher less formulaic way ...
He wrote some of the most classic country songs that crossed over to the rock scene such as "Sunday Morning Coming Down", "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Help Me Make it Through the Night".
Kristofferson is really thrilled to be honored/performing on the same night as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are reuniting. See that story here....
Kris as a songwriter and one of the country music "Outlaws" along with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, began resisting the unspoken rules of Nashville's music-making machine. Country radio basically shunned their music but...young rock fans embraced them totally.
My guys friends began playing their music at the parties we had. These guys were COOL. They smoked weed and drank. This wasn't our parents idea of Country Music...They were rebels and my generation was all about rebellion.
Like the rock stars of the time, Kris began writing and performing his own music which was more personal. His friends followed suit and The Highwaymen were born. These guys took highly produced country music back to a more basic level. More guitar and a lot less fiddle...Their rougher sound and original songs influenced popular music forever. Congratulation to Kris!
